Re: Metro Theme - Proof of Concept

Awesome. Would actually like to see this with the outlines in the Nokia squircle outline instead.

Re: Metro Theme - Proof of Concept

Very, very nice! looks really great and minimalist. I hope there is a easier way to install this.

Re: Metro Theme - Proof of Concept

looks nice.. can you reupload it to some other place? mediafire link doesn't work.

Re: Metro Theme - Proof of Concept

add it to apps.formeego.org

Re: Metro Theme - Proof of Concept

The theme looks good. Can you make the icons to feature a more saturated colors in the final version? On the concept the colors look kinda pale.

Edit: BTW, documents don't really need to feature MS Office logo, do they? Some of us aren't sporting Lumias for a reason, so a details like this may seem discouraging.

Re: Metro Theme - Proof of Concept

yup download link is incorrect. could it be corrected.

NovaG's metro minimal+ for the n8 was pretty good so looking forward to his n9 adaptation.

Re: Metro Theme - Proof of Concept

Very clever design skills, we just need a slightly more n00b friendly package :)
Then maybe it could even be uploaded to apps.formeego.org & Nokia Store etc

Re: Metro Theme - Proof of Concept

I hope people can download it now and tell me what they think, i have OBS access now but dont know how to compile a theme if people know, tell me

Also office icon is replaced with a paperclip

thedead1440 2012-03-14 08:46

Re: Metro Theme - Proof of Concept

downloaded it. The icons are nice but since they only cover the basic icon-set all other icons look odd. Kindly look through F2thak's F.D.B. Theme for better understanding on what all is available for editing. Looking forward to your interpretation of the UI.

Re: Metro Theme - Proof of Concept

Yeh, its very hard to do, also if i use his implementation i cant use themechanger, unless that app gets updated to work with third party icons.

I don't think i will do the whole ui, i did that with symbian though

koe 2012-03-14 14:26

Re: Metro Theme - Proof of Concept

yes indeed, would be great to have such icons for more apps.
btw, how did you make them? i'm very interested in technical side of question.

Re: Metro Theme - Proof of Concept

I got an email from the ThemeChanger dev recently...
Doesn't help much in this situation, but figured I'd still share what he said.

Quote:

Version 0.0.2 is at apps.formeego.org staging area at the moment, and I have some future releases in the pipeline.
If you like to try out the testing version, you can download the Apps client beta enabler from:
http://apps.formeego.com/application...ler-harmattan/
or wait for the update if/when the version 0.0.2 is out.
Only new functionality in that version is the "fix emoticon cache" button to autofix broken corrupted emoticons some people are encountering.

The app is F/OSS and the source is in github: https://github.com/matrixx/ThemeChanger
Some part of the code is adopted from the widgetsgallery, which is also Open Source: http://meego.gitorious.org/meegotouc...widgetsgallery

Re: Metro Theme - Proof of Concept

@koe, the technical side is pretty easy but time consuming

you grab the folder where the icons are stored and just make new icons in photoshop the same size as the ones you are replacing.

Most are 80px by 80px

Then created a file called index.theme

which basically names the theme and tells the system to grab icons that arent found from the default theme.

ThemeChanger, does most of the work.

Like i said before if i manage to package the theme, i will post it on Apps For MeeGo

But ThemeChanger, doesnt support third party icons so its hard for me to add more icons as that would involve to much work

Re: Metro Theme - Proof of Concept

Why doesn't it show up in themeChanger for me?? I've copied the metro folder to usr/share/themes via ssh and nothing?? Only development and blanco..

Giving it a go right now :) Glad to see Aussies on here ;) (Hope you are Aussie, don't know any other country with Telstra :p )

Re: Metro Theme - Proof of Concept

App works on my N950, few icons that dont work;

Calendar
WiFi hotspot
AP Mobile
Angry Birds
GOF2 NFS Shift
SIMATK

Of course, apps you download yourself dont include metro icons, but they are the ones that are pre-installed.

Nice to see folder icon support too :)

Re: Metro Theme - Proof of Concept

Aside from this....
http://leimu.drupalgardens.com/content/themechanger
The ThemeChanger dev did a comprehensive write-up on how to best utilize it & then package everything
http://matrixxreloaded.wordpress.com...ity-app-store/
http://matrixxreloaded.wordpress.com...-and-building/
http://matrixxreloaded.wordpress.com...ting-to-store/
He mentioned that he emailed this to the author of the icon set a few days ago.
So just putting this here for others that may be interested.

Re: Metro Theme - Proof of Concept

Even though, i was too n00bish to fully understand that tutorial, it did help a bit, so i will add it to the first post, the think i didnt get from there was how to actually build the tar file, maybe i missed something

Re: [WIP] Metro Theme

What i've done with my theme is made a script that replaces .desktop files which point icons to my themes folder. Although I'm unaware of a way to do this in an application, it's doable and not too hard with a shell script (see my script here )

it is unfortunate that application icons are all over the place, but as long as you have a copy of the original .desktop file it's not hard to do.

Well first of all I really like the original that NovaG did and like to thank him a bunch for it, but since I really like brutal minimalism I did some changes. And also added a bunch new ones..

The sad thing is that I don't have a clue how to make a seperate theme package and all the new ones I did is in like 100 different places in the filesystem, why is it like this why can't all developers put their icons in usr/share/icons?? Well I'm going to make more icons for more apps so if someone who knows of to make a package of them fell free to help me ;)

In a day or two I will have all the ones on my device covered and will uppload them here..

For know my ready ones is

callrecorder
lockscreen
firefox
opera
meeradio
fmradio
qneptunea
togglePSM
cutetube
maemo forum
meego forum
gpodder (will be better)
stellarium
kmplayer
filemanager
seriesfinale
flashlight
... and like 30 more..

Some of the icons are completly made by me, thou most of them are borrowed and edited from Moblin and from NovaG's Metro.

And one question that is a little of topic, someone here who knows where I can find the file that holds fontsettings for clock/date in the eventscreen and appnames in appscreen??

NovaG 2012-03-18 00:46

Re: [WIP] Metro Theme

The font settings would be in the css file i would imagine.

If anyone like robotnO wants to make a child (branched out from the original) theme, i am all for it and i can build it for them on the OBS.

Just send me a PM with the source and your name and email and i will make a deb file for you and write your name as the author

Feel free to use the other icons i have made
