Firefox questions, issues
So what's the deal with entering a URL in the Firefox address bar and it always adds the extra C in dot com? Please tell me I am not alone here. In case I am....If I type something, then the dot, then com--there is always ".Ccom".
Also, what version of flash does Firefox have on PR1.1. I can not get PR1.2 or download the Flash Player on Ovi, but I just noticed that Firefox does (very poorly) play videos in the browser already. |

Re: Firefox questions, issues
I'm having a really stupid problem with Firefox on the N9.
Okay, I slide the screen to the right and reveal the tabs pane. At the bottom I click the "+" icon to access my recent history and book marks. Problem is that I can't back out of this screen. I must open one of these bookmarks/recent addresses, and then slide the screen to the right again to close it. How can you access your bookmarks list, but just to look at and edit them without first having to open one of the bookmarks? |

Re: Firefox questions, issues
Yes, I found this annoying as well. I'm not sure if there is even a normal way to get back from that screen without opening some link first. Try asking this here just in case:

If we're sharing problems add the following to the list: - Using swipe every word is capitalised automatically. - I am unable to copy text within the browser. If i do manage to somehow higlight the text i cannot bring up the option to copy/paste. |

Re: Firefox questions, issues
If this is useful for anyone: those who use Diaspora* had a known issue with not being redirected to mobile version in mobile Firefox.
As it happens, there are explicit mobile URLs: https://joindiaspora.com/stream.mobile https://joindiaspora.com/activity.mobile https://joindiaspora.com/notifications.mobile (Or change it to your pod from joindiaspora if needed). Logging in didn't work in the mobile version though (so you'll need use the regular one at least for the log in step). |
Re: Firefox questions, issues
Really, only one other person having the .Ccom issue. Like the other person said, this happens every single time.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ovjJYajkNJA Also, just try to Edit a bookmark as you first make one. |
Re: Firefox questions, issues
Actually I don't have this Cc issue, but I'm using N950 and Firefox 11 from: http://romaxa.info/fennec/mozilla-release/
Don't hesitate to file bugs if you reproduce them. Just describe your OS version, device, and Firefox build/version (can be seen in about:support). |
Re: Firefox questions, issues
Hi there,
I have a major problem with Firefox. I received the new update of flash 4.0.0-73.1 and firefox 11 (the updates from 14th of March) Before I was so happy because I could enter Google Docs with Firefox. It is not possible to enter Google Docs with the N9 browser. After the above updates Firefox just brakes down when I enter Google Docs. It not just a window within the browser which brakes down and dissapear it is actually the whole Firefox browser. I dont get this. Anyone here knows how to solve this issue? |

this vkb placement is an issue on many other sites as it hides the text entry field. |
Re: Firefox questions, issues
Swype on N9 is totally horrible, it has a lot of bugs, i wont talk about that.
But my main problem with Firefox is that it sucks battery, even in the background. Has anyone experienced that? |
Re: Firefox questions, issues
Yes, it's quite energy hungry. Can you try switching off Sync and compare the results? Also, Firefox uses GPU for accelerated layers and to increase the responsiveness of the UI. I wonder if it drains battery more than usual. Heavy GPU usage gives speed, but comes with the battery drainage price.
|
Re: Firefox questions, issues
For a test, you can disable accelerated layers in the about:config
Set: layers.acceleration.disabled=true (expect that to cause sluggishness though). Hardware acceleration test: http://demos.hacks.mozilla.org/openweb/HWACCEL/ |
Re: Firefox questions, issues
so i turned off sync, restarted just to be safe. /opt/fennec/lib/fennec-11.0/fennec still continously spends 8-15% of CPU while in the background. I am parked on the home screen in the background.
i can try the hardware gpu off, but why should that be used when firefox is in the background and not “drawing” anything at the moment. |
Re: Firefox questions, issues
the hardware stress test took a long time to load in firefox compared to the stock browser. And it was beat, stock 5fps, firefox 4fps.
where is about:config located? |
Re: Firefox questions, issues
Just type in about:config in the address bar as any other address and press Enter.

I can't seem tup install the update for firefox. Every time i try to upgrade it through device update, the update fails. Anyone got any ideas?
|
Re: Firefox questions, issues
Can you try to update manually and check what errors dpkg shows? The packages can be found here: http://romaxa.info/fennec/mozilla-release/

Re: Firefox questions, issues
turning hardware acceleration off renders it useless. It flockers and goes blank. V. 11.0.0.1. But cpu usage remains the same.

balisingh: Does it drain battery when no tabs with content are open? If yes, then it's something to debug / profile. Please file a bug to bugzilla with your findings.

You can use this link, once you are logged in:
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/enter_b...h=dupes|Fennec (It refers to Fenenc XUL, in contrast with Fennec-Android-native). Describe the OS (Harmattan/version), Firefox version (see in about:support), the issue, and so on. |

No back button in firefox for N9 has been deemed to a WONTFIX [Unfortunately,Firefox is no more supported for MeeGo.] |

Another issue i mentioned before but is now becoming a pain - copy and paste within the browser. I have tried everything but i cant copy text. Anyone know how? |
Re: Firefox questions, issues
Those who mark it as wontfix aren't supposed to do that (their mistake). Just post the bug numbers here when you post them to BZ. So those who could work on them will be informed.
About the bug https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=735749 There is a non obvious way to go back from the bookmarks All Pages, Bookmarks, History etc. UI. Just tap on the thin area right above the address bar. It should take you back to the previous screen. |

Yes, it's not intuitive and it didn't work for me right away as well.

Re: Firefox questions, issues
Am I missing something?
The back button is there, you have to swipe from right to left and arrows will appear. If you have zoomed a lot, you also have to swipe a lot... Note that I am using a nightly build. |
