Re: Is it possible to unlock N9?

speak to your operator from whom you got the handset, and they should be able to offer you the unlock code or subsidy PIN as its also called for a fee. that is the only legal solution i or anyone on this forum can and should offer.

Re: Is it possible to unlock N9?

Talk to your network man, they're the only people that can give you the code, unless you want to take a risk on a few dodgy looking websites.
But assuming your networks not a complete rip off it'll be free through them.
Check their website first, a few networks have unlock codes available just by entering the IMEI, Voda Au for example, but they don't have other networks codes so don't waste your time trying that on.

Re: Is it possible to unlock N9?

I have come here after trying all that stuff! I am not bothered about the warranty and other things involved, I just want to make my N9 work with any sim. If it cant be discussed in here, please point me to the website where this is answered. This would be of a great help to me! Thanks.

Would he just be able to reflash firmware from Navifirm? Reflash is what I would do.

GTwalk 2012-03-22 12:03

Re: Is it possible to unlock N9?

Maemomd, I have already tried reflashing but still no use. As per my understading simlock is being processed somewhere the flash is not effecting.

Where does it mention discussion of unlocking phones? Please provide a link...

Besides, there's plenty of posts linking to warez sites (which is definitely against the rules) here that remain despite being reported, so the mod's/admins obviously don't care for the rules much.

please continue reporting such posts, the admins/mods will definitely react, though it might take some time.
the more reports, the quicker it'll go.

What is illegal ?
1. The phone is my property
2. The OS is open source
3. Even if is a phone with a smaller price (by operator), the only obligation is to pay the contract to operator for 1 or 2 years. I doubt is specified somwhere in the contract that I am not allowed to change the software (because of 1 above). I supose this lock is a software matter.

No - I've stopped doing it now as it's a waste of time. See my post here - and count how many replies I got.

You seem to be speaking with some authority. How come you can be so sure that "the admins/mods will definitely react"?

Maybe breaking with the hammer is also illegal :D

the act of unlocking isn't illegal. in fact, operators in the EU are obliged to provide some sort of unlocking service (mostly for a fee).
however, "inofficial" software to do that usually implements some circumvention method which might be considered illegal in some countries - namely the US. (reverse engineering, DMCA)

i have no authority :)
i just based that on my experience with this board... so far, i had a reaction to every report i made, though i don't visit here often any more. maybe that has changed... too bad.

Re: Is it possible to unlock N9?

Locked phones are soooooo last decade ! ;)
As the OP pointed out, he will pay his contract fees. No obligation to use the phone or 'minutes' from the provider in the contract.

In The Netherlands phones are no longer (for many years now) sold with a SIM-lock, for just this reason as on the market or any corner of the street unlocking was offered for 10,= Euro's.

So, discussion of unlocking is not against any rules as you originally implied then. Thanks for clearing that up.

have you contected the operator which has locked the device to give instructions how to unlock it?

Just to avoid scenarios that someone pays 1euro for operator locked phone with false identity information (ie not going to pay for monthy fees), and then sells then cheaply to next owners who don't know how to unlock. In any case operator should be able to give you step by step instructions howto unlock.

And are you sure that your really operator sim locked, and not trying to unlock the normal lockcode (which is easy to do). Can you give some screenshots of error messages when your non-operator sim is the device?

Yes, I'm 100% sure that the mobile is sim locked. Please find the attachment you asked for.

So what happens if you enter the unlockcode that operator provides in that query? Not the "#pw+unlockcode+1#" but just the "unlockcode" as its just the number string.

Solution is of course just to enter right unlock code to the dialog :-)

Are you implying that you consider forbidding related discussion acceptable? DMCA can be easily abused to prevent free speech (such as even a discussion of circumvention tools). If some weird lawyer does that, it can be expected. But not for someone on this forum I hope.

Don't spread misinformation - in fact, in the US, phone unlocking is explicitly legalized (c.f. item #3).

Phone unlocking is not illegal, as much as phone vendors/network operators would like it to be that way.

Well, In my case please take it granted that I cannot get the unlock code. I need any other possible way/hack to unlock the mobile.

There is no public _free_ way to unlock simlock on N9 without valid code (even if there were this forum would be totally wrong place for it), you need to pay to get the unlock code usually (or be really well connected).

Maybe because it's a very new (and not so worldwide) phone ?

i never said that. in fact i did say unlocking is legal, however the methods used to unlock usually are not. dont misquote me.

There is a bug in the OS prevening you from entering the "w". Thus the only way to unlock it (the easy way) is to ask the operator do it over the air (GSM operator code). They did it for me (for free I might add). It is in fact illegal not to unlock customers locked phones here.

You are living in EU right?
Because we have the same law.

Re: Is it possible to unlock N9?

I know this is a very old thread. But answering the original question. Yes, it is possible to unlock N9. I did it through BF calculation of simlock code.

shma 2012-11-13 15:53

Re: Is it possible to unlock N9?

care to explain further?

eljonker 2012-11-13 16:22

Re: Is it possible to unlock N9?

To calculate Simlock code is necessary to read the block 120 of permanent memory, where is located the security hash code.
I made this read with Advance Turbo Flasher tool.

As mentioned above the hash is a key of 40chars, Which need to be calculated with bruteforce. That hash is calculated by the sum of [UnknownUnlockcode] and IMEI of the phone.
If you have a PC with a Powerful GPU you can do it yourself with HashCat http://hashcat.net/oclhashcat-plus/, If dont you can pay in a online service of BruteForce Calculation.

eljonker 2012-11-13 19:14

Re: Is it possible to unlock N9?

In this case, the main advantage of the ATF is the posibility of read logs. The calculation and how to enter the code can be done with any other tool or software.

I can help to read the hash to anyone that need it, with usb redirector.

rainisto 2012-11-13 20:53

Re: Is it possible to unlock N9?

Ah yes, I stand corrected, its relative easy to read hash from PM120 with phoenix, jaf etc. Quick googling finds sl3 bruteforce howto's quite easily.

eljonker 2012-11-13 21:26

Re: Is it possible to unlock N9?

Is possible to read PM120 but is not possible decrypt with phoenix, because is necessary authorize SX4. I never tried with JAF. I just want to share my experience.

shma 2013-01-01 19:52

Re: Is it possible to unlock N9?

Advance turbo flasher isnt a program but a box you buy correct?
If thats the case, i think it would be more simple to just send it to a unlockerdude. If it was possible to do for free i was gonna try but no point getting a thingy for this one phone.

Thanks tho :)

eljonker 2013-01-01 22:58

Re: Is it possible to unlock N9?

It was not free for me too. I had to buy an atf unlocking box.I am just offering to help to read sl3 log from N9. After that you need to pay about 15usd to bruteforce your unlock code, of course not to me
The only restriction is your unlock code dont be of 20 digit, its impossible to unlock that Nokia phones.
