[SOLVED] Application doesn't exist & Installation icon on homescreen

1 Attachment(s)
I was just playing with my phone and all of a sudden these icons appeared. The thing is that I can't erase them because when I try a message appears saying the app doesn´t exist

Anyone know how to erase them?

Re: Icons for applications that don't exist

I had same problem. I tried everything to delete them, but I couldn't. So I flashed the phone. I do not know that is permanent solution maybe other guys have solution for this problem.

Re: Icons for applications that don't exist

Do you have the terminal installed? If so, please show the output of

Code:

ls /usr/share/applications/
and

Code:

ls /home/user/.local/share/applications/
That way you might be able to spot any erroneous .desktop files and remove them.

This are the outputs I got:

Re: Icons for applications that don't exist

I did a hard reset and the number of unnamed icons increased. It seems there's one for every app I had before the reset. Still no solution though :/

RazorNoobish 2012-03-29 14:02

Re: Icons for applications that don't exist

No solution so far?

cddiede 2012-03-29 15:12

Re: Icons for applications that don't exist

What's the status of your application updates? Any pending?

That icon is typically reserved for an application that is updating. If your update process is stuck or corrupted, that could explain it.

However, if that's the case at this point it would be difficult to fix without re-flashing.

RazorNoobish 2012-03-29 17:20

Re: Icons for applications that don't exist

Nope, there's one icon for every app I've uninstalled. When I reinstall one of the apps, one of the icons goes back to normal.

jalyst 2012-03-29 20:17

Re: Icons for applications that don't exist

You are running 1.2 right? You don't mention that anywhere in this thread...
There was def. report for this in the tracker, at least a very closely related issue IIRC.
Tis worthwhile finding it, reopening (if closed, can't recall), & adding feed-back.

RazorNoobish 2012-03-29 20:37

Re: Icons for applications that don't exist

The screenshot shows a folder, so yeah, PR 1.2 :) . Sigh, I guess I'll look for it,

jalyst 2012-03-29 20:46

Re: Icons for applications that don't exist

Ah OFC! If you can't find it post back here, someone will know...
I don't have time to search right now & most prolly won't be back in this thread.

RazorNoobish 2012-03-29 21:22

Re: Icons for applications that don't exist

It's ok, I have no problem looking for it. It's just that I thought by now someone'd have figured out how to solve this :(

HELP Can't delete - Application does not exist

2 Attachment(s)
Hi,

Can anyone help. I downloaded pinball fantasies from N9 fanclub. To see if it was any good. Decided I didn't want it on my phone but it wont delete. Once delete it turns into a download type icon and if you try to delete this it says "Can't delete - Application does not exist". If I reinstall the download icon gets replaced with the app I can then go to the manage apps and uninstall but if you restart the phone the download icon comes back again!

I also deleted the Taxi app with the same outcome. If i reinstall its fine i just can not delete.

Any help please? or is this a PR 1.2 issue?

coderus 2012-03-31 11:31

Re: HELP Can't delete - Application does not exist

what about using Installations inside settings menu??

Grazy 2012-03-31 14:06

Re: HELP Can't delete - Application does not exist

tried that! If i delete there it goes but when you restart the download icon is there and this is not visible in the settings menus.

To get rid of the download icon you have to reinstall the app, then as above! it just goes round in circles!

Re: HELP Can't delete - Application does not exist

This issue has existed in this form (or very similar) for ages now.
IIRC it was supposedly fixed. There's a ticket in the bug-tracker...
Maybe it needs to be reopened & given feedback from users like yourself.

Re: HELP Can't delete - Application does not exist

have you tried the manual way? on my n900 when i'ved cases like yours
i'm doing steps as follows:
1. locate the installer file
2. extract the files. deb or. rpm using 7zip
3. will appear file with extension. tar
4. extract file. tar using 7zip again and you will get some folders.

you just search for related files in that folder in your mobile phone. and manually delete them.

I'm not particularly good with these things but will have a go at this n900 method. I now have three of these files. Any other suggestion

Is there an actual location i can look in, this is happening everytime now! never use to. can not recall if i have uninstalled anything since pr 1.2

update: uninstalled burn the city, which was installed before the pr1.2 update and this was removed normaly

Re: HELP Can't delete - Application does not exist

^Found the bug report yet?
They need to know it's still an issue, & they may want to gather some info from you.
They'll prolly help you with a more elegant workaround in the meantime.
Once fixed no-one will have resort to this "manual fix" anymore.

See this and this.

jalyst 2012-04-01 08:16

Re: HELP Can't delete - Application does not exist

^Yes workarounds have been repeated "ad infinitum".
There's even some documented in the universal guide.
But the root cause needs to be addressed once & for all.
Otherwise we'll just continue to get threads like this...

Re: HELP Can't delete - Application does not exist

Already giving up trying to report this! Bugzilla: can not browse! search can't find it there!

sign up on the developer forum, they send me an email, follow link, try and sign in and it won't let me! Request a new password and it says email was sent but i never get one!!

Has someone got a link to the bug that was reported?

Thanks Jalyst. I hadn't allowed searching for "All" but still couldn't find it! there are so many!

I had to flash my N9 for another reason. But flashing cured this problem here too. All my settings survived, just had to reinstall the apps I wanted.

Pretty sure this is it, there may be other similar reports in the tracker.
Read the first few posts there, & see the other TMO threads referenced there.
Also read the other threads/posts that those threads link to...
Your issue is slightly different now from what I can tell, but it's definitely closely related.
The report can be re-opened, & this thread + other new ones can be referenced.
They may say you have to lodge a new report at the Nokia dev forums.
But this is close enough to the original issue that they should monitor it from #566.
If you re-open make sure you change the version number, that you vote, & that your email address is added etc.

Re: HELP Can't delete - Application does not exist

thanks again Jalyst, after reading the bug report it does sound similar but not identical. hopefully they will get back to me soon!

I might have to start a folder soon with all these dead icons in! at least we have folders now!

I'm tempted to do a computer reflash rather than a OTA update, but I'm not keen on using third party flashers and the Nokia updater software will not reflash the current firmware like you could on the older phones i.e. on the N900 you could connect up and reinstall the firmware you were running!

Re: HELP Can't delete - Application does not exist

update: I had a call from Nokia.

They suggested a Hard Reset.

Has anyone got any experience with doing these? The chap I spoke to said I would lose everything including data stored on the mass storage. So I guess there is no point using the phone to backup my contacts etc?

I would have to use Nokia Link, which is only in Beta for Windows XP.

smcsa 2012-04-04 11:50

Re: HELP Can't delete - Application does not exist

I think Nokia Link for XP has exit beta. I have 1.2.408.3448. But maybe i think wrong.

Do not forget to copy stock photos and videos (if you liked).

Grazy 2012-04-04 12:38

Re: HELP Can't delete - Application does not exist

ok, well Im still not sure the mass storage needs deleting! I may just wait for PR1.3 then flash it with Nokia updater this will at least leave the mass storage alone, but delete where all the apps are stored and hopefully the issue! I'll try a backup anyway as it won't hurt!

Just keep bugging the devs intermittently in the ticket.
They'll take forever, but they'll eventually respond...
It's an assigned issue so they'll prolly want some more info from you.

not heard anything yet! wanting to reflash my phone with same firmware rather than the hard reset but Nokia updater dosesnt allow this any more! Not entirely keen on the unoffical flashing methods!

I tried a hard reset last month and it made it worse. Now I have more "arrowdown" icons. So I wouldn't suggest that.

thanks for that! i'll avoid that then! it's weird as it only affects apps installed after PR1.2. As i did an over the air update the apps i had were not removed as they are with a nokia updater firmware flash!

The flasher I used came from http://tablets-dev.nokia.com/maemo-dev-env-downloads.php . As the 2nd-level-domain is "nokia", I assumed, it was NOT third party!?
