Nokia Lumia 900 vs N9

Now that I have gotten a flavor of WP7.5 on the Lumia 900 I can say that if the N9 was polished at its current set of features without any bugs would beat the Lumia 900 hands down from software features to included accessories and overall speed and responsiveness and multitasking.
The stock browser "Internet Explorer" may win on the Lumia 900 but because there are more options on the n9 (opera/firefox w flash) the N9 has an edge here. The IE is fast and good at rendering sites faster than n9 browser even on the same wi-fi N network sites loaded almost twice as fast on the Lumia. I used latimes.com desktop page as an example.
Battery on the Lumia with >1800mAh is a beast. LTE on the other hand is a hungry lion. But using Wi-fi for long periods for browsing doesnt move the battery much. N9 lacks in this, i can put the n9 in LP mode in a few hours browsing even on wi-fi.
Maybe because the 900 is a new phone there are just not many features that you can customize and the software feels basic, like the iphone, but whatever features are there do work. I can only change the color of the tiles, I cant even pick any color but i haven't complained about this on the N9 mainly because i like the layout and there are plenty of settings. Application settings are just minimal, Data usage tools are non existent. I found the back button to be confusing (especially when you close and application and go back to it, e.g. you browser may have history but you cant access it from the back button if you closed the browser) and got lost inside applications just like symbian. E.G. Inside the music player, i could not stop the music from playing easily. I found the quickest way to stop was to lock/unlock and press stop at the unlock drape. You cant quiet an incoming call from the call screen. No skype. Nokia maps do have traffic. The local scout feature is cool, but i hate that every applications want to know your location. Why does ebay need to know my location? more importantly i dont want to tell ebay my location or anyone else who want to collect it and use it for their purposes.
The hardware though is superior than the N9 in many ways, the speaker is very loud and the headset is clear and loud. The screen has a similar resolution but bigger, lot less strain on the eyes. LTE vs HSPA. LTE is fast very fast. Its empty in the States with so few phones available, use it while you can. The screen however is not curved like the n9. its flat and doesnt have the low power feature. There are not headphones or even a rubber case included with the Lumia.
With all that said, i believe that the N9 has a gem in its multitasking, I have not yet seen a phone that multitasks better than the N9. Including the Lumia, iphone and Android. The multitasking pane is the best way to multitask. I also love the feed page on the N9. I just love the 3 page layout of the N9 with the swipe feature over any other combination of home screens with dedicated buttons. I would not give up my bug ridden N9 for a lumia 900 despite of availability of many popular american apps.

Honestly the N9 is just missing popular apps.. If it had the wide selection like iOS, Android, and WP7.. It would be unbeatable. :/

Because if it did have that many apps then, I bet you that EVERYONE would buy an N9, and Nokia would then support Maemo with full force..

EDIT: You guys might say that Linux and debian has A LOT of apps.. Which is true.. but to the average joe, they just want an easy access to a store and have all the popular apps listed right infront of them in one place.

I havent really looked at the email besides setup. gmail allows you to sync your email, contacts and calender from one place (although i unchecked contacts and calender in settings, my wife doesnt really use the calender) Another awkward thing was lumia doesnt sync with Outlook, you need to download a strange tool to link hotmail to outlook and then sync your contacts to windows live. weird.
Oh the nokia "contact transfer" tool is so strange also, i tried to connect the iphone 4 to the lumia 900 using bluetooth with "contact transfer" without much success untll i hit pair on both phones at the exact same time. This took me about 20 tries to figure out and it is classic Nokia.

Since typing would be email centric thing, The keyboard implementation is good though. The layout of keys looks irregular on the keyboard and phone daler, which is kind of the design preference of wp7. non centered & unaligned lines, uneven size boxes on the same line. Gives it a unique look.

I agree. Qt is still the way forward for Nokia, they know that. Linux and debian dont have ebay/amazon/yelp apps. They need some american developers to jump on Qt.

Qt is soon gone in mobile biz. I'm sorry to be the one to break it to you but you need to hear it.

Qt does indeed walk the walk, just too bad its used on wrong platforms as far as smartphones go. Qt is so much more than "widgets" anyway.

Lumia Iphones and android don't multitask. Period. Putting an app to standby is not multitasking no matter what apple says.

Even Chuck Norris gave up on Nokia.. Why do you think they're doomed??? Beause Chuck Norris disapproves of Nokia's actions and therefore won't allow then to succeed! >.<

Sorry I'm a bit drunk! :)

FYI, Lumia is running at 1.4GHz while N9 is running at 1GHz.

It is the same.

Email combined with live tiles so that you can add multiple accounts to one tile is great. As a whole txt messages and emails i consider to be Lumia's strenght.

Lumia 800/900 have no support on T-Mobile US 3G, otherwise, I would have got one.

Re: Nokia Lumia 900 vs N9

I've used Lumia 900 for about 3 weeks. Main complaint I have with it revolves around 3rd party apps -- a known issue I might add - the lack of a snappy and polished Google Voice app comes to mind first; a close second is the lack of alternatives for the stock IE browser (UC Browser, Beyond Browser etc, seem to be all just variants of IE). GV app(s) work, but are slow to connect and occasionally fail to connect.

Other than those two, so far I've really enjoyed WP7.5 and Lumia900. Call quality is excellent, battery life is very good and Nokia Drive is one of the best nav apps around. Skype works, WhatsApp is great, AT&T LTE has been quick (consistent 8-9Mbps in Los Angeles) and tethering a laptop works without a hitch.

No, I haven't sold my N900, but since Raspberry Pi is arriving at my door step any day now, the N900 can take a rest as a test bed, and the Lumia will serve as my dumb, smartphone :)

what apps you want? I got almost all what i want. We were in las palmas with friends. My friend got gsg2 and i would say i got a lot more useful apps wit n9 like navigation. He got google earth but no navigation. Sgs2 crash couble times, n9 doesn't. Battery last same much.

I just don't understand where people need 200000 apps if you install 20 and use 5.

No, blackberry are using Qt with BB10, also theres a Qt for Android project happening at the moment, the only two left out are WP and iOS.

Also Qt isn't Nokia anymore, they sold it off. Which is why it is being embraced by Blackberry ect..
