Ubuntu phone OS

A little hope for us linux lovers

http://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/?p=55583
hmmm that mock up looks familiar

small shout out to maemo in the last line

http://m.zdnet.com/blog/open-source/...smart-tvs/9834

This would be a while until we see a real product hopefully Canonical pulled support for kubuntu to direct it's resources to a mobile platform? One can only hope.

Re: Ubuntu phone OS

Damn it. Just a fan concept, tied to a rumour of something that may.

Besides, why would anyone use Ubuntu on a phone? Its too bloated. They should build on top of what MeeGo has created.

Well, if you are not having much luck porting Sailfish OS on your nexus you can try this...

http://www.ubuntu.com/phone/install

Any idea how this would compare with Sailfish?
(This might be old news for some but I just got this link from canonical in an email today...)

Okay...
Sailfish OS, with first-party Apps from Firefox, supporting Ubuntu Desktop on MHL, working on Tizen devices!

Praise Ubuntu today where the man who stood for it in practice is praised in South Africa these days!

Unfortunately, I think its ZTE... But an even more advance version of Edge like 4 GB beast with nice big screen and a fast browser and I'm in.

Did you try the latest release? I Remember that the first one was a kind of preview. The Latest one is more usable for everyday use. I wish to install it but the process is a bit "hard" for me (too much command line stuff).
For the moment i'm using Cyanogen 11(kitkat) and it's so stable that i don't want to install another rom or OS. Let me know your experience with Ubuntu OS.

Nokia and Ubuntu - going from one Linux based OS, under-funding it, then go to an over-hyped Linux based OS?

Full circle.

I'd bet it's Lenovo.

While I have been critical of Jolla's vision in certain aspects, this is one major obstacle they passed well instead of being in a perpetual state of flux like Ubuntu Touch... When the organisation size of jolla and cannonical is compared, it shows how brilliant Jolla have been...

Yes. They pushed some half baked uppercut jPhone to the market and it always cooler to be in the game instead standing outside of the ring.
If jolla manage to launch even a second jPhone they will have a solid lead against Ubuntu and Tizen. Only a KO would defeat the Finnish fighter. Still, it's unknown if they ever have to face Ubuntu holyfield and Mike Tizen.

I think that a Smokin' Jolla Frazier will do just fine!

Sailfish OS looks better, but this can also be good.

Re: Ubuntu phone OS

Well, if anyone attends WMC it would be great if they write up a comparison of Sailfish and Ubuntu (and anything else related). Would be helpful to get impressions on multitasking, comparing how you navigate with gestures, integration of social apps, incorporation of android apps and so forth. Would be really helpful for me. I was just about ready to take the plunge and have a friend in Switzerland pick up a Jolla phone for me but when I saw video of Ubuntu touch running on Nexus 5, I though I'd wait till I see what happens at MWC. I'm leaning towards Ubuntu right now cause the Nexus 5 has pretty good hardware compared to current Jolla and data would be terrible in US using Jolla. But I would agree that Sailfish OS looks better.
