Raspberry pi anticipation thread
I've ordered a raspberry pi at 29/02/2012 11:45 as the farnell export order status says and I can't wait to get my hands on it.
They have started shipping the first batch but someone said that this is just orders from the first one and a half minute. Did you order one? When? From which distributor? do you have any more info for the arrival? How much was the shipping? (My order says TBA) |
Re: Raspberry pi anticipation thread
A couple of my my friends have them also on order. - I'll post a reply once they start getting them. :)

Re: Raspberry pi anticipation thread
You forgot the "yes, but i have one already" option ;)

Re: Raspberry pi anticipation thread
I was finally invited to place an order on April 1st, after managing to get to the 'register your interest' mail form on the launch day.
Im still eagerly awaiting a delivery date. I think my first test will be using it as a media center for my TV in the living room. |
Re: Raspberry pi anticipation thread
Still waiting for my invitation :( I registered within the first hour of them going on the RS site, would have been sooner but we all know how busy the site was and the confusion with them going down the register your interest route.

Re: Raspberry pi anticipation thread
Now, who is going to rig two of them in a case, connect a touch screen and 3G dongle and slap Mer on it?

Re: Raspberry pi anticipation thread
There's another option missing:
I considered buying one but something stopped me doing it. I would have ordered model B if I could run it entirely on free software. But the fact that I still need proprietary blobs to get the graphics working stopped me from doing it. |
Re: Raspberry pi anticipation thread
I 'll wait for the 1GB RAM version.
Since I have no embedded project I am not looking into experiencing a N900 swapfest all over again. |

We will also need a mic to add to that list too, then we are in production ;) |
Re: Raspberry pi anticipation thread
Eagerly awaiting mine - last email update reckoned 30/4 - we'll see.
planning on several eventually as media frontends velcroed to TVs. I also want one running Domotiga for homeautomation, and move that and some other apps off my pogoplug. A Rapsberry Pi with wifi and 3g dongles would make a cracking ultra portable, so may be on the cards as well. What's everyone else planning with thiers? |

Congrats mate :) Still waiting for mine :( Did anyone see this vid on the R-pi site? Its a little game development program called scratch... (see the BBC vid) http://www.raspberrypi.org/archives/1131 It looks like something we should have for the n900? :) |
Re: Raspberry pi anticipation thread
Email for me yesterday - Week of 28/5. May will feel like a long month!

Re: Raspberry pi anticipation thread
Just making sure everybody here is aware of
http://wiki.qt-project.org/QtonPi We had a device program and the deadline is long passed http://wiki.qt-project.org/QtonPi/De...ogram/Accepted However, we still have a few vouchers left. Contact me if you have a Qt project or a good Maemo / MeeGo developer background and an idea for a Qt 5 project. PS: is this really a Competitors thread? Looks more Development. I don't think anybody will swap their mobile device for a RPi in their pocket. |
Re: Raspberry pi anticipation thread
Still waiting for mail announcing delivery of mine - and one of first thing I'm planning to try on it, is exporting N900's Easy Debian to 1680x1050 screen in native resolution, with help of x forwarding and USB networking ;) Next thing, comes doing the same for whole Maemo 5.
BTw, I agree with it being Development, not Competition. |
Re: Raspberry pi anticipation thread
Feel free to move the thread I just felt it should be in the devices section and of course it's no N?[7-9][0-1,5,7]?0?

Re: Raspberry pi anticipation thread
Just found an awesome looking keyboard to go with the internet TV media player suite... http://www.ebay.com:80/itm/ws/eBayIS...e=STRK:MESE:IT
That Dpad could also be mapped for the odd emulator too? |
Re: Raspberry pi anticipation thread
your link doesn't work for me. Ebay complains there is no such listing

I got 5mins away with my n900 :)
here is the keyboard from a diferent seller... http://www.ebay.com/itm/Rii-Mini-i8-...item35bbc112e2 I have also found this which looks nice, and it has nub and shoulder buttons... http://www.ebay.com/itm/Mini-Wireles...item33755f2ee3 |
Re: Raspberry pi anticipation thread
The ebay link works for me. There are lots of similar keyboards out there btw. My father has this one [1] to control his android-driven HTPC. It works quite fine if you compare it to the N900's HW keyboard but it doesn't replace a true PC keyboard. My father also has this one [2] which he uses more often because it's simply more convenient.

Re: Raspberry pi anticipation thread
Oh yeah!!!
I have just found my order request in my inbox :D :D :D :D So happy now, should be here within 3 weeks :) |
Re: Raspberry pi anticipation thread
It's here! Trying to make an arch sd card right now but my reader sold me out.
|
Re: Raspberry pi anticipation thread
would be possible to install maemo on this device?
|
Re: Raspberry pi anticipation thread
That's great news qwazix, please keep us informed as to how well/easy you find the install :)
Fingers crossed, mine will be here next week :) @tanrax: We can't run Maemo no. It is closed source. However there is MER currently in works |
Re: Raspberry pi anticipation thread
Image copied to sd successfully, booted ok. Network works ok. The funny thing is there is no power button. You just plug it in.
Now I've got some problems upgrading pacman, and I am a complete arch noob. I'll try a bit more but debian is waiting in the corner. I chose arch because I like rolling releases. |
Re: Raspberry pi anticipation thread
I just got mail with info, that i can, finally, order. no idea, when it will arrive... Hope for no credit card verification problems, as their system is stupid - Not possible to define different shipping and billing address.

Re: Raspberry pi anticipation thread
Nice one Estel :)
Not too sure about how their CC payments are, but they do use paypal too. Edit: just re-read your post. I gather you have already payed for it. :) |
Re: Raspberry pi anticipation thread
I stuck to what it seems to be an infamous 800x480 problem with arch, and I also couldn't find firefox in their repos (didn't search much though) so I decided to ditch it and go with the more familiar debian.
It felt like I had super cow powers when I was apt-getting iceweasel 11 from experimental :) So far everything works fine, but real slow. Looking forward to GPU accelerated X. Estel, good luck with your purchase. |

Re: Raspberry pi anticipation thread
No there is a bug in arch linux arm that limits the resolution to 800x480. It happened after the first reboot in my case. In debian I can use 1080 without problems, but the screen refreshes with lag when you move or minimize windows. The rpi blog states that they have WIP to offload the x window system to the GPU. That's what I am waiting for as the slowness of the X windows is borderline unacceptable.

Re: Raspberry pi anticipation thread
My Pi arrived yesterday, and I pushed both the Debian build and the Openelec build to SD cards.
X on Debian is quite sluggish at the minute and definately in need of development and optimisation. The raspberry pi browser is midori which was a nice reminder of when I used it on the N8x0. On the other hand OpenElec is excellent. The interface looks great at 1080p and is fast. Pulling video and lists from my pogoplug media server (runs debian) was really quick and it played any of the media formats I could chuck at it without any problem. There is a slight slowdown if the display and lists are overlaid over the video, but that was largely down to my unfamiliarity with the XBMC interface. I was thinking that it would be quite cool to try and put Mer and or possibly Cordia to it. Main problem I have now is deciding whether to press the single Pi I have into service as a media player, or to continue to hack and play with it.. |

Maybe someone, who already received Pi, would like to try things from this thread: http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=81408 ...? Easy Debian on N900 with HDMI out via Pi (kinda "achieved, as per freemangordon) is quite teasing, isn't it? /Estel |
