[Announce] Live-F1 for N9

2 Attachment(s)
Native client for the official Formula 1 Live Timing service.

Download free from here: http://rainisto.com/livef1/

The official Formula 1 website includes a Java client, which during races, qualifying, and practice sessions, displays the Live Timing information from the race track.

Live F1 is a native Linux client for viewing the same Live Timing feed without the need for a Java-enabled web browser. A free user account on formula1.com is still required to use this application.

Version history and roadmap:

Quote:

- Known bugs: only works if you have enabled developer mode.

v1.0.1 Bug fix update to ovi store
- Fixes the depency problem so developer mode is not needed.
- Adds https vs http login methods for the situations where one server is unresponsive.

v1.0.2 Improved background network connectivity [Current version]

v1.0.3 Starting to see if commentary stream or disable screensaver can be added.

Well yes, official F1 logo is copyright&trademarked, so I couldn't use that in the icon, so I just made a simple one where you can clearly see whats the app name.

This Icon is very ok and who cares about icons? Everyone can make better and suitable for own taste...?

Live-F1 is working Great and really have first "test" next weekend!

And I'll hope that F1-federation (or what ever + elop) don't interest too much about this... This is _only_ live-timing software for Nokia phones in Store? So shhhhh... (They will change systems and/or block out this... Funny, only abandoned get needed software etc...)

For some reason I cannot login although I have 2 account on www.formula1.com and there I can check in without problem.
I have reloaded Live F1 a couple of times without any improvement.

Any chance of getting the F1 2012 app to work on the N9? I don't know the logisitics of it, but if it's possible there's a big donation in it for you :) Thanks

No chance atleast from me. F1 2012 apps IPR is owned by Soft Pauer’s, so either you ask them to port their application to N9, or try to use their Android application through Nitdroid.

"Disappointing!(Zero-Star)
Arvostelija: ltbalogun, laite: Nokia N9 1 päivä sitten

There's a notice on the single Matrix-like page that the software is free. Why then is it being sold??? Don't buy or you'll be disappointed. Rather, use N9's Mozilla Firefox (it's Java-enabled & FREE) to view same page free on formula1.com."

BS! - Someone should answer to Store that this person is not telling the truth... I allready gave my 5 Stars and cannot add comment...

heh, yes some people give false reviews sometimes. Maybe his N9 has the Java enabled, and cows can fly :-)

Just installed this application and registered on F1.com. When I try to logon from the app it crashes all the time. I tried to reboot and reinstalled the app but it still crashes. I'm on PR 1.2. What to do?

Usually it closes (which can seem like crashing, as I just made app to exit if login fails), if you haven't confirmed the registration emails confirmation link, or misstyped email & password combination.

1. Check your email and be sure that you confirmed your registration by clicking the the link on email.

2. If your sure that you have confirmed, then you can double check that you entered your login & password correctly (check uppercase vs lowercase letters):
# devel-su - user
$ cat /home/user/.f1rc

Re: [Announce] Live-F1 for N9

Got it working now after I activated developer mode for the first time on my phone which then downloaded depencies (I've never activated developer mode before).

Re: [Announce] Live-F1 for N9

Thanks for the report, I'll double check that application will also work for devices that doesn't have developer mode installed.

Changed to Dev mode and then this app opened. Can see only one page so lets see how it works next weekend. Compared to F1 2012 I am a little bit disappointed. Room for improvement;)

Re: [Announce] Live-F1 for N9

@nickem51
There is no room for improvement- it is just a viewer for official live timing. Log in it on your PC and check what it look like - the same.

OK Thanks. Expected more like the F1 2012 version...

Re: [Announce] Live-F1 for N9

For fancier graphics and commercial F1 2012 application you might want to buy https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...gapp2012&hl=en for android, and run that under nitdroid. Or you could try get that company to port their app to Harmattan (their app price which currenty is >20e might scare away quite many potential buyers though).

I only ported the existing n900 application to N9 because people were requesting it in this forum, which didn't have any fancy graphics.

Re: [Announce] Live-F1 for N9

Just great, now that that we have the app, it's not working anymore. Apparently the F1 servers changed something, now there are separate hosts for authentication and timing stream. There is a solution here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/live-f1/+bug/997847.

rainisto 2012-05-11 13:10

Re: [Announce] Live-F1 for N9

yes, I'm applying the same fix and releasing update asap.

PS. and now 1.0.0 seems to work again, so it was just problem in F1 backend.

Re: [Announce] Live-F1 for N9

It's working again now, but who knows for how long. It seems that FOM is making some changes, I noticed some slight differences in the Java applet.

catbus 2012-05-11 13:36

Re: [Announce] Live-F1 for N9

^^Hard to get screencap cause live-f1 kind of crash after "login"... In first practice i got "Internal Server Error" in login... - I'll try later...

yep they might change things, as a precaution Im pushing 1.0.1 version to ovi store, in that way we have secondary way to login if we have problems. And I'll soon make 1.0.2 where you can choose against which server to authenticate, that way app should work even if one of the servers are down....

rainisto 2012-05-11 14:38

Re: [Announce] Live-F1 for N9

I just pushed 1.0.1 update to ovi store which adds http vs https login buttons, that way we hopefully get the live stream even if one server is down. Will will take some time for the update go through QA though.

Can you add support for showing the car's fuel level?

Re: [Announce] Live-F1 for N9

Thank you for this nice app.

It's working fine right now during the race.

My only complaint would be the font size is too small when at a level that allows all data to be shown on screen.

Could you add a zoom-level that horizontally shows all data up to and including pitstop as an option? I wouldn't really mind to have to scroll up and down a bit and not seeing the weather data without scrolling sideways. Being able to read the text better at arms length away would be a big plus though.

Re: [Announce] Live-F1 for N9

I'd buy very happily this app (even if I'd appreciate a better looking icon, will try to gimp up something and post it if I can create something visually bearable :P ).

But first I absolutely need to know if this works over 3G connection. I have wifi at home, but I also have a PC and official F1 live timing webapp, so I don't really need it here. I will need it in a month or so when I'll be on the go. I've seen some comments on Ovi Store saying that it's only working over wifi, but you can never trust Ovi comments :P

EDIT:
I also see from the screenshot that the app only displays timing (which is more than enough) but the java webapp shows also a little, not really useful, but fun to have commentary to the race events (like drive-through to John Doe for making too much noise in front of Bernie Ecclestone golden seat, etc.)
Is there a chance to implement that too? Just wondering, I've read that this is simply a port of another app, but if it's possibile to implement it there, maybe it can be ported here too.

rainisto 2012-05-13 16:16

Re: [Announce] Live-F1 for N9

@Watchmaker: yes it works over 3G, only shows timing, there is no live commentary of the race events. If the original live-f1 some day gets live commentary, then I will port it to this app too.

rainisto 2012-05-13 17:51

Re: [Announce] Live-F1 for N9

There has been some negative reviews about app not working. And its true that 1.0.0 version of app doesn't work if developer mode isn't installed since I forgot to set one depency. Sorry about that.

I've just submitted updated 1.0.1 to ovi store QA for the review. After it passes the QA it should fix the problems for people without developer-mode.

rainisto 2012-05-19 07:37

Re: [Announce] Live-F1 for N9

status update: 1.0.1 passed QA.

I think no but some kind race only commentary?

So these 2 programs aren't actually competitors as Live-F1 doesn't have commentary and espnf1 doesn't have live timing.

@rainisto

Is it possible to disable "screensaver" ... Now i have to activate screen "time before time"... (i know, battery-saving etc, but who cares that?)

Thanks...
