Instagram app on Nokia N9 - Why Not?!
 

HEY GUYZ

Okay so the N9 is an amazing device, but it sorely lacks support. I think that it would be epic to have instagram ported to Meego for the n9. It has already been ported from iOS to Android, so why not Meego?! This app coupled with the amazing N9 camera and face tagging recognition would be soooo killer!!

Official or unofficial app would be cool. Anyone interested in porting this app to meego, or rallying enough support to request an official app from instagram?

Also, what other cool apps are missing from meego? Lets make a plan to get em, we have an active community that is capable of amazing ****, take tgalal and his whatsapp port (I cannot wait for the app)!

There's even a Python library. Not sure what it means exactly but I have heard people on other forums talk about Python. https://github.com/Instagram/python-instagram

There always is Molome as a decent Instagram alternative... already in the Store, works good even if with some bugs, and a lot of great photos to see!

Impossible, you can't port closed-source apps, and that api is for viewing photos already uploaded.

You guys do know we ALREADY have basic Instagram features built-in, don't you? Snap a pic or open an existing one, hit the menu button, then select "Edit." The Color Filter you probably associate with Instagram is usually "cross processing," "HDR," and "Vintage" modes. Look inside of there and you've got them! Edit it up and just use the built in Sharing Plugin to post them on Facebook or where ever you'd like!

Porting an app without the source is called reverse engineering.
Whatsapp can be reverse engineered without huge difficulty because you can log the network traffic and figure out how it works. Instagram is a collection of photo filters, you can't log how that works and copy it.

I know of these features, but they are fixed as in not customizable.

On android/ios you got magic hour and on the N900 you got Classic Can/Print that does this and afaik also instagram. I'm not looking for more sharing features, but photo enhancements on the go wich the build in features on the N9 does not give me at all.

tap pict , edit and then colour filters on n9, cross processing seems like imstagram, or you maybe use molome, :)

This is exactly why i requested Classic Cam/Print to be ported to the N9, it's open source and dev'ed by a person here on tmo and it has customizable features.
As the the young or hip would've put it.
*Classic Cam/Print got swag*

Haven't tried molome, but it seems to be fixed filters and I'm looking for custimizable filters :)

Guyz!

I'm not interested in filters for pictures or HDR stuff, I'm talking about the social networking services of the app. Almost every celeb has an instagram profile, and its cool to view friends pics and ****.

This app would be killa on the N9 with its amazing camera and automated facial recognition tech. Anyone get what I'm talking about.

I think we need to start a petition for an official release of the app. Anyone with me?!

Ahh I see, I want it for the filters, I don't care much about the sharing options and other peoples pics.
Though I'm still with you, the more attention the better and I really want some betteroption to enhance my photos taken on my N9 without using a pc or booting into nitdroid.

Even though I think it's pretty much a lost cause when thinking of how other pettitions has went unfullfilled.

Also petitions mean bugger all lol.

The N9 isn't even supported by its own creator. No company is really INTERESTED to develop an app purely for a platform that isn't gonna profit them in any way.

It allows you to apply different filters to a photo you take or have previously taken, then allows you to upload to Twitter or Facebook.

Please explain how it is ANY different to Instagram..

If you want instagram just get an iphone or itouch. I plan on getting the next one, hardware wise the N9/N900 are great but they lack that commercial support. Thats why the Iphone is the best period.

Someone else asked for support on the maemo platform months back in this forum and they responded, saying they would look into it and nothing has yet to develop to my knowledge.

I dont want to upload my pics to twitter or facebook, but to instagram. The photo social networking app that it is, along with all my friends who use it. (Android, iOs users)

I dont really wanna get a new phone, cos the N9 is great. If you guys will not support this thread then don't post in it.

We want instagram, not Molome or whatever else!

A petition won't get you anywhere with these app developers. They want commercial viability.

Something the N9/N900 severely lacks! Heck even Symbian lacks it these days :(

I am not defending the OP, but it's wrong to say Instagram and MOLOME are the same. Sure, they have similar filters, functions, and sharing options, but the community is different. So to say that Instagram and MOLOME are exactly the same is stupid. :P

I agree with the consensus here. You won't get enough people to sign this petition, sad to say. Would I have wanted it on the MeeGo platform to begin with? Sure, why not? It gives me an alternative. And let's face it, it's one of the most popular apps out there today. But would I sign a petition now, even though I know the chances of it being developed for the N9 is very, very, very, very slim, probably not. I hate to rain on your parade, but it's honestly a waste of time, no matter how nice the camera of the N9 is compared to the shitty cameras of the iPhone and most Android phones. It simply isn't going to happen because the MeeGo platform is already on life support as it is, and there's only 1 phone that uses Harmattan, compared to the Android OS and iOS, so that gives the developers very few incentives to develop it for the N9.

Seriously, you should give MOLOME another chance. It's ok and does the job. By no means is it lame. The only advantage of Instagram is a vastly larger community of hippies.
