If you live in Finland I strongly advice you to grab the last ones left at Nokia Flagship store in Aleksanterinkatu, as the price-tag for the 16gb version is a bargain 249e.

So sad.

on an online phone shop the N900 (!) is available new :-o
maybe in a few months N950s will turn up?

then again... Samsung begins handing out prototype Tizen devices to developers
Quote:

The Samsung unit sports a 4.65-inch Super AMOLED screen, a Cortex-A9 1.2GHz processor, 1GB of RAM, 16GB of storage, an 8-megapixel rear-snapper, 2-megapixel front-facer, microUSB, Wi-Fi, GPS, NFC and a standard video/audi decoder. Quite the feature-packed device, I'd say. As you can see in the above video, the OS borrows quite a lot from Samsung's TouchWiz UI including its pull-down notification system and support for tethering directly out of the box.

It means they might have some stock left.

But as of both N9, N900 as well as the N950, the status is that the production has been ceased, meaning that no new units are pushed out and what's available has been already allocated (N950), sold (N900) or stocked and offered at low price-point to clear them out (N9).

We've a great device, great community and great devs.
Buy a second device just to keep the momentum.
Thanks and goodbye Nokia!

Probably you don't understand that if the community is here is due to Nokia's devices first of all.

But I agree: the recent shift in the events will make the developers interested in developing for Linux platform jump on Samsung's band-wagon in the next 3-5 years, as soon as the current N900-N950 and N9 devices will become obsolete.
And whenever this shift will happen good old Nokia will be gone for good because the dev community around here is the one that is currently making 90% of the work supporting these beautiful devices.

last year they were sending out N8s as replacements of N900s (e.g. with defective USB port) under warranty...
why would they have done that if they still had stock?
other possibility is that they had returns from leasing contracts with companies & refurbished them with (new) spare parts

N9, low price?
think again... :D
i think the demand for the N9 is still very strong, stronger then for Lumias, especially for the 64GB model...
e.g. L800 white : € 415.-
N9 16GB Magenta: € 439.-
L800 black : € 369.-
N9 16GB Black: € 377.-
L900 Black or White: € 499.-
N9 64GB (Black): € 639.-

what was your top model, again?

Not all of the developers will switch to Tizen.

I'm speaking for myself here, but when/if Maemo/MeeGo die off, and no new devices are produced, I won't move to Tizen.

First of all, if I wanted a web-based system, I would've gone with webOS, and second, the system is still new, it needs time to mature, MeeGo had about a year or two before it reached its state, and it still had its quirks.

The only alternatives would be Android and iOS, and tbh, I prefer the latter, the main coding language is Obj-C, which I like better than Java.
And second, I find the jailbreak community more professional in terms of method of release and the fact that jailbreaking patches stuff, which is legal, whereas on Android there's custom ROMs, which you'll be swapping between every now and then to stay up to date with the latest version.

But hey, there's still time for Maemo ;)

or not...
they are still more OS201x devices in the pipeline from NOKIA, just a matter of patience.
and then there is... the next billion with Meltemi devices.
most likely with Aegis squared respectively without any SDK or any such possibility, at least from factory, but as it will be build on Harmattan & Co, it may still be possible to hack 'em
hardware wise, it can't be much worse then N9 now, can it?

Mine brand new N9 64GB (Black) for around € 453 with 2 year warranty (extended), bought just 10 days back.

So you mean N9s aren't even produced anymore? It means Nokia is becoming history and their demise is close at hand. May be Samsung will make some decent Linux device in the future. Something already showed up on the Tizen conference, but it's not available to the public yet.

So it seems.
The production of this particular phone has now been ceased according to latest news.

I'm currently weighing the N9 up against, amongst others, the Huawei Honor, at the same price point. User replaceable battery and user replaceable memory means I'm leaning towards U8860 at the moment. Let's see if this does anything with prices.

Only problem is the quality of Samsung devices is subpar...and the fact that they abandon 2-3 month old models in support.

On Samsung's side there is this:
http://cdn.macrumors.com/article-new...ne_profits.jpg

So basically when you have those profits, you can also act like they do.

But Nokia here is playing the opposite game: invest, produce an excellent quality product, discontinue the production, and re-source and re-locate to other factories the production of a similar device (NWP serie).

Volt, after using the N900 for well over 2 years I finally gave in and got the N9. Definitely an expensive device, and not an N900. But very pleasing and beautiful. I already found some quirks, like any Nokia seems to have to have.

Regardless, if you are interested in Nokia - as I am - and like the idea to have the last real Nokia device, then buy the N9. You will enjoy the device.

If you are less sentimental and more practical ("replaceable battery") better look elsewhere.

Re: Nokia N9 discontinued today in Finland

You can still get N9 in Slovakia at a lot of places, including official Nokia stores...
official price is 449 EUR for 16gb and 499 EUR for 64gb...though you can easily get brand new for some 300-320 EUR thru classifieds etc...
Lumia 800 is 399 EUR....
Wikipedia still states N9 is "in production"...

Re: Nokia N9 discontinued today in Finland

Oh, well :( . I was hoping it'll be in supply for at least an year since launch. I still had a glimmer of hope, however small that may be, that some day I'd see Nokia 808's camera in an N9 successor, that seems to have been obliterated now.

stickymick 2012-05-09 21:55

Re: Nokia N9 discontinued today in Finland

It wasn't meant to be successful anyway. Eflop and Monkeyboy Ballmer made sure of that.
And the fact that it was a total embarrassment to them because it sold better than the WP devices did in the same time-frame I should think they're glad to see the back of it.

Yeah. I don't like their design really. Nokia's is more superior. But what can you do. At least they are planning to make Linux handsets. Nokia so far plans to dance with MS tune.

n9 is(hmm was..) way better quality than n900. Especially the backleds,on n900 seems to have alot issues on n900. Infact did have three two did have white spot issue :(

btw. For people not have n9 yet theyr very lowprice now so well worth money imho. For sure the last i will buy from now raped company..

too true.

I lost count of how many android phones (not just Samsung) were launched with outdated software or never upgraded, despite being only a few weeks/months old.

This is why I never bought and never will buy an Android device.

-----------------

I was REALLY expecting the Nokia Meego phone. Had the money for it and all. Then came Elop and in the end I never even bought it. Now I want an n808 for the camera. But I'm not really sure.

In the end, the ONLY consistent company, that actually supports it's product and produces a reasonable quality device is APPLE. And I ****ing hate iOS with a passion. I hate the way Apple creates a walled garden and closes everything. The way they charge absurd prices, etc.

But the sad part of it all is that I may buy an iPhone or iPad somewhere along the next few months/years. All because of Elop. May the hells have a special place for him.

We weren't talking about Android OS. It was about conventional (X11/Wayland) Linux such as Tizen or Nemo. I thought troubles with support mentioned above were about hardware, not about the OS. I don't worry about the OS. My problem with Samsung is that their hardware design is not so good as Nokia's. But it's still better if they make some medium quality handset which would have X11 or Wayland (and the rest of Linux) drivers, than not to have anything.
