Did anyone install Meego on Lumia?
 

Nokia Lumia has some hardware features I like but I also like Meego and Maemo. Did any try and put these two together?

Yes there is a Lumia style device with a maemo/meego OS installed already from Nokia, so no need to try and install meego on to the Lumias.

Do a quick search for the Nokia n9.

All Windows phones have a locked bootloader.

Of course, there may be some with an Engineering bootloader, in which case, have fun with images.

What is the point, other then a a camera button? Which N9 Button Monitor provides.

It is a pointless endeavour as the Lumia technically isn't better or superior to the N9. Just because it has a 1.4 Ghz CPU compared to the N9's 1Ghz CPU, which in actual fact perform the same. Also the Lumia has less RAM which defeats the purpose as Harmattan was designed at being a heavy multi tasker.

I think a better point is the N9s are in limited production, while the Lumias are being pushed hard by Nokia and certainly produced in large amounts.

Not to mention the fact that carriers are practically giving them away (Nokia promotions, etc)

"Converting" these Lumias running a useless OS to one running a decent one would provide a cheaper option for people to get a "N9", or make MeeGo-Harmattan more available to the general public should they want to use it without buying a N9 (or perhaps they can't), much like the NITDroid project.

IIRC, some early Lumia 800s have development bootloaders. I might go around and look for these things.

EDIT: It seems that the Lumia 710 is easier to hack, while having the same guts as the 800.

how to flash with nokia care suite ? Ans : open nokia care suite after switch of device then select product code in nokia care suite click on update software or refurbris after pluck the data cabel and press volume plus key phone goes on flashing mode now flashing is starting.. Thes are the step of lumia flashing

Unfortunately, that apparently also updates the bootloaders to Nokia ones.

I'll look into obtaining a Lumia 710, and see how we can get code loaded on it.

IIRC, someone got a bootloader for QSD Android phones running on it (which means, Linux kernels get loaded.)
It's probably worth a try to use it.

dude he's talking about something else. which is not even possible. he doesnt want to flash his device, he's asking for installing another OS instead of Windows Phone.

Hi, I have to ask: besides this hardly-to-become true Lumia flashing, has anybody installed successfully MeeGo-Harmattan on a different device that the N9 at all?

Why even try that? If I would ever try to port MeeGo somewhere I would choose a more capable device not a less.

I tried booting MeeGo Harmattan on my N900 once.

I ended up having to reflash.
Perhaps this can be tried again one day with mtdswap and aegis fully disabled (got BB5 communication errors - does the N9 not use HSI/SSI anymore?)

It doesn't really matter, as long as the kernel is re-patched and rebuilt for the Lumia and the QSD supports the ARM extensions the N9 uses (off the top of my head: hardfp, thumb, thumb-2)

yes porting to the N900 makes more sense. Check out meego wiki. There are some hints for MeeGo on qualcomm

Getting the graphics drivers is probably the only major problem, after the CPU being Qualcomm.

The Lumia 710 can be flashed with an open Qualcomm development bootloader. Nokia leaked it by accident. For the Lumia 800, you'd have to have luck to find an early not yet updated device with that open bootloader.

port it to dualcore TIomap dual-core like nexus will.be better, and seems.easier(if possible), lol im not a developer, but want to see its happened too, maemo with dualcore will ne so awesoooomeee, :D

Sorry, but I mean: has somebody at least come up with the idea of porting MeeGo-Harmattan to something more up-to-date than N900 or N9? I think that it could be a pro-futuro exercise, plus you can get to choose the device, for compatibility of the components.

Also the screen sizes are different, which would cause problems, and most likely different drivers ect..

As mentioned it runs off a different SoC meaning you would need to hack drivers for it as well.

Even if the bootloader is unlocked, is Harmattan "open" for porting? Especially on different CPUs.

My dream is now the new 41MP Nokia Lumia EOS whatever its called with Harmattan.

Nope, custom or ENG bootloader will do the trick. That is locked tight. They locked everything even more after they broke Windows Mobile bootloader and replaced it with an Android Bootloader.
