[Opera Mobile 11] Change default search engine

I wish to change my default search bar engine from Google to DuckDuckGo.
I can change it each time but it goes back to google on restarting Opera.
Also can't seem to delete Google engine eithier.
Any Ideas?

Maybe permissions issue on the opera home folder?

I have been wanting to do that. How are you doing that?

Re: [Opera Mobile 11] Change default search engine

To add engines tap the search bar, tap the google icon/drop bar.
Select manage search engine at the bottom.

I tried to do the same thing, but it's impossible :-(
Google default can't be deleted and it will take over any other search engine (independent of it's name) after restarting Opera.
There is no search.ini anywhere to be found. In /home/user/.opera/ds there is a file called 8_all that contains search engines, but when I edit it, Opera somehow overwrites the file with the original ...

Re: [Opera Mobile 11] Change default search engine

According understand is because it connects with opera servers, and so it is impossible to change to another search engine.

Thanks for the tip. I want to change google.com to google.co.uk. Unfortunately, the google setting is readonly.

Isn't that Opera Mini or Opera's "Turbo" function? I am pretty sure settings and search engines are saved locally.

You can add google.co.uk, like I added duckduckgo.com.
Still no solution for changing the default engine tho.

That file is empty for me.

Had a look through all the files in opt/opera can't find anything containing search engine information.

Never thought of trying it in Opera. It's a piece of p*ss to change on the desktop version. Maybe gat a few ideas from there.

Please see this thread for a solution. I focused on Opera Mobile 12, but probably it'll work in version 11, too.

No such file in Opera 11.
/opt/ directories are different.

Ok, another blind shot:
According to this post about Opera Mobile 11 the skin-vga.rsc ist located at /usr/share/operamobile/browser/bream/
Otherwise, just search for it:
Code:

find / -name skin-vga.rsc 2> /dev/null
I'm curious: What's the reason for using Opera Mobile 11 and not 12?

I don't like 12 it's still buggy and doesn't provide any big additional features.

Edit:-

No such file using find and usr/share has no opera or operamobile.

/opt/opera/share/browser has a skin-vga-multi.rsc and skin-hvga-multi.rsc but these have no search engine information in them.

That's a pity :( I never came across these two files.
Can you provide the original Opera Mobile 11 Package you are using?

Re: [Opera Mobile 11] Change default search engine

I found it myself here. At least this matches the path you described (/opt/opera/share/browser/skin-vga-multi.rsc) and is major version 11.

This file looks sufficient similar to that one I inspected. "Google" and its URLs start at offset 0xAC48.
