My app manager doesnt work
Please help me!! :(
I added 2 new catalogues to my app manager. Catalogue Name: maemo.org extras testing Catalogue Name: maemo.org extras devel Then i updated my app manager. But I hadn't any time to install apps.So after few mins I opened the app manager. But it tells "operation failed" And I checked the log. hildon-application-manager 2.2.35-3 write: Broken pipe write: Broken pipe apt-worker exited. apt-worker: can't truncate lock /var/lib/hildon-application-manager/apt-worker-lock: No space left on device read: Bad file descriptor apt-worker is not running Now im fed up with reading threads to find the solution for my problem.I cant install or unstall apps. And my phone always tells that "unble to receive or send new massages Device storage is full Remove data to free memory" But there are 965.1mb for installable apps. And 2.72gb available in my phne . I have rebooted my phone several times..But it doesn't work.:( I bought this phone in this year and im new to this device. please please help me with step by step instructions.. |

Install faster application manager using x terminal with apt-get command.... it will work |
Re: My app manager doesnt work
Your rootfs is full. You might look at it yourself with this simple command
Code:
df You might then analyze the biggest space wasters with Code:
du -a / | sort -n | tail -n 50 |
Re: My app manager doesnt work
I would also advise that you forget about using extras-devel repo.. usually a bad idea if you don't know what you are doing (no offence, but that's what you said i first post)
|
Re: My app manager doesnt work
here is the wiki page to make sure you find it and did you ever tried to extract an archive with x-terminal ?

Re: My app manager doesnt work
go to HAM (hildon application manager ) and not FAM ( faster application manager ) :D and click on download then click on top bar then refresh and if it works and refreshing do not stop it and wait :)
./sifo |
Re: My app manager doesnt work
I refreshed it sifo..
it tells that no catalogs in use. |
Re: My app manager doesnt work
did you tried to remove some applications ? and what you have installed on your N900 ?
./sifo |
Re: My app manager doesnt work
how can i install or unstall any apps without the app manager?
i have installed some games some themes and some small apps like liqtorch,moobox.... |
Re: My app manager doesnt work
ok before removing the apps go and clear you conversations then re-open HAM and refresh
and go to x-terminal and type : df -h / then you will see an output . how much used space you got ? |
Re: My app manager doesnt work
i think the only way to solve this is to install rootshm and since you cant so anyone cant help you here
i suggest disable all repos and search google how to add them again and if that worked install rootsh if not then google ''rootsh.dep for n900'' and download it to your phone and just click on it via file manager wish you the best :) |
Re: My app manager doesnt work
@davdav
if the application manager cant read the catalogues then i guess he cant just install rootsh and there is no space ! |
Re: My app manager doesnt work
he have to delete all repos 1st
|
Re: My app manager doesnt work

GTF and educate yourself. Sorry for that little rant, but there are hundreds of warnings about devel and rootsh and so on. And even there lots of threads with same/similar problems. You did the harm to your device, so do not expect me to spoon fed you. Enable R&D Mode with flasher, do apt-get clean (this will remove some space from rootfs), and then deinstall the most not-optified programs. I think you bought the device second-hand and the former owner installed a lot of non-optified stuff. Easiest thing would be to do a full reflash. What PR is that device running? What does "dpkg -l" give as output. Or easier "dpkg -l > MyDocs/packages.txt". Upload this list and maybe some guy will check it. |
Re: My app manager doesnt work
i cleared the conversations.no free space.227.9mb is used. :(
|
Re: My app manager doesnt work
go to sittings and click on top bar and then clear device this will remove all apps but do backup your contacts first !
./sifo |
Re: My app manager doesnt work
You will have to trash your desktops :(
Try to disable as many widgets, starters, try to cleanup some of your conversations. Reboot and try to get to the Hildon Application Manager to disable the two offending repositories (catalogues), they do not bring the breakage, but right now are wasted space, because the lists are too large for your rootfs. Try to paste the logs, if HAM gives you errors again, and the output of Code:
df > /home/user/MyDocs/.documents/debug.txt This will create a file called debug.txt in your Documents folder. Try to attach that file to your next post, if errors occur. However, if you now have access to HAM fully working, you should install rootsh, to have the opportunity to gain root rights. Try to remove some applications that right now are not essential to you, do not worry about your personal setting, they are not removed from /home/user, which is not affected by the space issue. Follow some of the procedures of the wiki page, like installing pymaemo-optify and using the move-to-opt.sh script. If these step might be applied successfully, you are ready to reinstall the applications are ready to roll again. Good luck! |
Re: My app manager doesnt work
I WISH PEOPLE WOULD SEARCH THE WIKI'S MORE.
and I don't shout often.... Information on Freeing Rootfs Information about extras (including warnings about devel and testing) By the time you've finished playing with devel/testing and fixing what's broken you will need this. This will make you phone fast like new. Please don't use Testing and Development repos unless you understand them. They are not merely more applications, there application that will probably brick your phone. |

Re: My app manager doesnt work
Thank you sixwheeledbeast for your links.

Re: My app manager doesnt work
Try to find, 'what is yours', to eliminate some file the hard way, BUT please keep track of what you move.
First make sure, that your data partition is mount and working. The command Code:
mount Quote:
Code:
find / -xdev -path /proc -prune -o -user user > /home/user/user.txt |
Re: My app manager doesnt work
