no settings like where do you want to store the pix,
resolution settings qvga 4:3 or vga 4:3 fine
also video settings on front cam...please raise this suggestion

did you tweak someway default N900 front camera driver? quality seems way better than old Mirror app..

first it says that I'm missing python-gst0.10

than when i try to download it i got this.

Thanks a lot nicolai, that was very fast.

I know is to much to ask, but as bugoy say, the next step (if you want) for this, could be video (if is possible).

Please push to Extras-testing as soon you consider, this should be available for everyone.

As i see it this app was missing, this is one more step to N900 be perfect device ever (consider the hardware).

Edit: On second thoughts, probably won't be good video recording due the quality of the camera.

Yes it would be cool to have it (if is possible) but everyone have to know that the quality of the video won't be the best (the front camera "needs" good lightning conditions as you say to have the best picture, see mirror for example).

Anyway, that's up to you decide if do it or not, i'm happy just with take picture.

Nice application nicolai!I wonder if your app would be somehow implemented in the camera ui2 for the next CSSU update because you can't take a photo with frontcam in camera ui2 and video isnt possible in your app for now.

Are you sure you installed it correctly?Type in xterm:

Or if it is listed in uninstall list in HAM then reinstall it.Or you could download it and install it from filemanager.
Or the .desktop file is missing in /usr/share/applications/hildon

Thanks for this app! On my front camera, though, to produce an image of that lighting level would take an a-bomb detonation for a flash.

i install nw via xterm, then i saw the .desktop on /usr/share/applications/hildon, and also on icons scalable/hildon but same thing only color green

If it works then it is OK.If the icon is plain color because it's because there is not yet any image for the icon.

There is no icon for this app.Look harder and add the icon yourself if you want then.

i got it :D
sudo leafpad /usr/share/applications/hildon/frontcamera.desktop

and the line that contains Icon=frontcamera.png remove .png so it should be
Icon=frontcamera

how about implement some sort of flash using the N900's screen? just like how the whole screen in macbooks flashes when taking pictures with the webcam.

The red light starts automatically by mce when camera is active.
You would have to edit mce.ini:
change
PatternWebcamActive=20;1;0;r;9d80400004ffc0000000; 9d800000
to
PatternWebcamActive=20;1;0;r;9d800000;9d800000

if you have any problems to fill the password (when you type command "sudo leafpad") please type :
root
leafpad /usr/share/applications/hildon/frontcamera.desktop
then change it and save it.

maybe tiz steps will help u..
