How to restart Gtalk service?
From time to time (once or twice a week) Gtalk disconnects (network error) when I switch between wifi and 2G or 3G or from.
The only solution I know to reconnect Gtalk is rebooting the phone. I have been looking for some other solution, like disabling Gtalk account and re-enabling it, but it does not work. Does anybody know if it would be possible to kill some process from terminal or any other workaround in order to restart a fresh Gtalk connection? Thanks in advance. |
Re: How to restart Gtalk service?
IIRC you could kill mission-control-5 and D-Bus should respawn it. Didn't try though.

Re: How to restart Gtalk service?
I tried it, but it did nothing visible. Gtalk still cannot reconnect.
Thanks. |
Re: How to restart Gtalk service?
What happens if you just disable and reenable the account?
|
Re: How to restart Gtalk service?
Nothing at all. When I re-enable it, the "network error" message is there.
|
Re: How to restart Gtalk service?
An alternative to the "network error" message is the green blinking dot. It remains blinking forever.

Re: How to restart Gtalk service?
Can you find any information about
network error reason in /var/log/syslog? |

Nicolai,
I do not know. I have attached my syslog. It begins exactly when I tried to connect my Gtalk account (10:33). At 10:38 I connected Skype. Thanks. |
Re: How to restart Gtalk service?
I'm just unable to refrain from posting a useless me too post because this is my major problem with the N9. Please keep shouting ideas even if they are longshots.

Quazix,
I am glad I am not the only one. I searched all around TMO and other sites and I did not find any single reference to this problem. |
Re: How to restart Gtalk service?
Code:
/sbin/initctl restart xsession/mission-control |
Re: How to restart Gtalk service?
Code:
initctl: Name "com.ubuntu.Upstart" does not exist. |
Re: How to restart Gtalk service?
You've got to log in as root before running that initctl command:
> devel-su Password: <rootme> |
Re: How to restart Gtalk service?
I tried this
Code:

Re: How to restart Gtalk service?
I have it too, but no idea how to solve it.

Re: How to restart Gtalk service?
Lol. It is the 'silent bug'. Everyone has it but no one reported it on time.

To others experiencing this problem, which company is your provider? I am on T-Mobile USA. |
Re: How to restart Gtalk service?
I am in Argentina.
It is not a network problem. It is something with GTalk service. I have Skype always on and never failed this way. |
Re: How to restart Gtalk service?
I had this a short time after I flashed PR 1.2. Tried to fixed in a lot of ways, but only reflasing, then restoring the backup and then removing all accounts and readding the accounts fixed it.
It's been some months without getting that, so there's hope for you! |

Traysh:
Last friday I reflashed my PR 1.2 official version. Today I had to reboot my phone because of this bug. |
Re: How to restart Gtalk service?
I hope it's solved with 1.3 ... I'll go on navifirm this week and flash my phone clean. We'll see.

Re: How to restart Gtalk service?
I'm convinced this is a network related issue, because I never have this problem at home on wifi. Perhaps shaky connections lead to Google freezing access for some period of time.
|
Re: How to restart Gtalk service?
I do not know. Remember that a reboot solves the problem.

Update Scratch my post. After 10 minutes gtalk was able to connect (my sip account was instantly online after leaving offline mode)! Maybe it was really fixed!? |
Re: How to restart Gtalk service?
I flashed PR 1.3 a week ago and the bug is gone. Fixed for me.
|
Re: How to restart Gtalk service?
I've got this bug too. It's started with PR1.3 update.
|
Re: How to restart Gtalk service?
In my case, two weeks without this bug. PR1.3 solved it for me.

Re: How to restart Gtalk service?
I have "Network Error" only for one of my two Gtalk accounts. The problem happens less often if I am on 2G/EDGE network, with 3G I cannot connect at all. I did not have this issue with PR1.2, it seems to be triggered only by PR 1.3.
Seeing that it happens less on 2g than 3g, it seems my AT&T USA network may be the cause here. I will try with wifi at home and report back, I actually never connected through wifi at home as I need only when I am outside!!.. at home I use Gtalk on the laptop. |
Re: How to restart Gtalk service?
Flashed cleanly Pr1.3, and it hasn't reappeared since.
