PR 1.3 for N950?
So what's the story, did Nokia drop releases N950 altogether?
|
Re: PR 1.3 for N950?
Think so. No need to support them since they where free.. Better to try to boot up tizen on them.
|
Re: PR 1.3 for N950?
maybe it worth to repack debs from n9-pr1.3 fw and install them over n950-pr1.2 ... or maybe other overiding hacks ...
maybe 1st is to rebuild a kernel ? |
Re: PR 1.3 for N950?
did it actually even get the proper 1.2 release? Dropping n950 "support" makes sense to me since (afaik) the device's purpose was to give application devs a head start before the n9 came out. Related to that: did the qt-components api, etc. even change in the update. If not, it is still 100% usable as a application developer device.

Re: PR 1.3 for N950?
It would be nice to get at least a OCF for PR1.3 !

However, it is apparently possible to upgrade N950 to PR1.3 by changing the repositories to N9 repos and going from there. I won't give instructions here as I haven't done it myself. I just read it in #harmattan so at least it seems possible. |
Re: PR 1.3 for N950?
There would only be one reason to try upgrading the 950. If they fixed the bug with jumping cursor in textareas. Otherwise I don't think I should have updated the N9 either.

Also there's a nice photo on rzr page showing N950 with PR 1.3 :). |

Re: PR 1.3 for N950?
The N900 never did this to me. It also does it in other websites, and twitter app.
@arcean, care to give a hint how to do that (libmeegotouch from master) is there a repo, .deb, or do I have to build? |

Please keep in mind that I'm using this in parallel with PR 1.3. |

Re: PR 1.3 for N950?
There's really no reason the packages can't be upgraded to the ones from the N9. Even if no OCF bin is released, it should be trivial to OTA an N9, (or extract from N9 OCF) pull the binary packages out of ~archives and re-write the control files to ensure no versioning dependencies happen.

Re: PR 1.3 for N950?
argh...! So after upgrading from beta pr1.2 to pr 1.3, it gives me that annoying warning message everytime i boot the device, like it's on openmode (since pr1.3 has a different kernel, it thinks that I have an openkernel...)
Can't we make a pr1.3 kernel for n950 users? or is the official n9 pr1.3 kernel suitable for the n950 aswell? |

Re: PR 1.3 for N950?
So does anybody have a tested guide to update an N950 to PR1.3 without completly bricking it?
I tried the N9 repo way and I got an N950 that auto uninstalls every deb package it could find. Even the lockscreen was uninstalled after some minutes. After reflashing PR1.2 I had a working system but I can't use my SIM card because anything fails everytime I try to flash PR1.2 again. No no mobile internet connect, messages or telephone functions. |

In any case do not install mp-harmattan-001-pr package! 1. Make a backup. 2. Add N9 repo. 3. Code:
dpkg -r mp-harmattan-rm680-pr Code:
apt-get update type this in Terminal (SSH prefered): http://pastebin.com/CgrLRZud You may have to apt-get install some other installed packages. You're doing this to fix apt-get autoremove, otherwise It'll wipe your OS. 6. Congrats, you may safely reboot the N950 :). |
Re: PR 1.3 for N950?
Wow, that's probably not a good idea. I am sure Nokia has a newer build than the publicly released one, maybe we should try asking them for it!

Re: PR 1.3 for N950?
That's my point. I'm emailing the one employee I can find from the meego team that linked-in says works there still. I know they have the beta update for 1.3 internally, if they are planning to release it soon then I think you guys should wait. If they're not planning to release it soon, I think you guys should wait. I will not say more.
Btw they can't just fire everyone from the team, if there is a critical security flaw or huge bug found they still need to fix it. |
Re: PR 1.3 for N950?
Here is my experience guys:
Added the N9 repo from N9QT apt-get update apt-get dist-upgrade apt-get upgrade On reboot, disclaimer appears saying modded fw, but this can be fixed prior to the update. Fix can be found on these forums The fw version, although being PR 1.3, is still signed as 1.2. Therefore, reflashable. I have done this on my own device. No issues have been found. Edit: I have used the OCF again, and it fails to flash cmt-mcusw |

I'm really careful about flashing my N950 . Don't want it ot end up like a dead brick or to be unflashable. |
Re: PR 1.3 for N950?
In other words, if you use that method for 1.3, don't flash it. I fixed the issue myself, and have a device with no issues what so ever, but not many will have the same ability

if there is no safe option to do it, i would say, stay on PR1.2
but... MFaroTusino, can you make an image of your phone maybe, to be flashable for us, others? :) |
