How to identify a fake N9
I am planning to buy a Nokia N9 tomorrow morning. Being aware of the fake ones available around, I am being a bit cautious and would like to know how can I identify if it is a real one or fake. Any commands which would produce a specific output or something like that?
Any help would be highly appreciated. |
Re: How to identify a fake N9
Watch youtube videos of N9 reviews, announcement etc. I never see a MeeGo clone. All I can see is N9 hardware clones. So know the phone close may help you.

Re: How to identify a fake N9
Are you going to see it before you buy or is it off the internet? As AJ said, all are n9 body clones, none of the meego software.
On the dialler, type *#0000# and it should say: Software version Vxxxxx_PR_00X N9 (C) Nokia Also check the IMEI begins with a 3, as this usually denotes Nokia. Otherwise, make sure it functions how you expect the N9 to do so i.e. swiping, no lag, same vkb etc. |

Re: How to identify a fake N9
I've seen a fair few fakes on ebay. Most seem to have "N9" printed in the upper corner of the screen which is an obvious giveaway(N9's have only Nokia actually printed).
Also any listing with descriptions similar to "a friend gave me this phone as a gift but I can't understand smartphones so putting it up for sale" should set alarm bells ringing. |

For the OS, I would bet on them running some horrid java variant with a custom UI, or possibly Android as that is appearing on many of the clones these days. There have been a few threads on the KIRFs, take a look at these... http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=80741 http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=80986 http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=80090 |

Re: How to identify a fake N9
Hi,
Since the device did not launch here I had a close relative pick it from Jeddah while he was returning here. I think that's the best way to go about it than land up with a fake. I think even though its easy to make the phone look the same, it would be plain when you use the fake that it is a fake... take a few pics/videos I really doubt that a fake can produce a 720p video or a good picture even... Sorry I cant help on more info about where else to buy it. :( |

Re: How to identify a fake N9
Okay. I have a doubt before getting an N9.
How do we get into the terminal (and execute commands)? Is there a particular application we have to open or we need to get into some mode after a reboot? I am yet to use a Maemo/MeeGo device! |

Btw, after switching ON (enabling) the developer mode from Settings / Security / Developer mode, I should be able to see the X-Terminal icon on the home screen, correct? :o Reboot required? :o |
