HELP: install windows 98
 

hi dear all.. :)
please help me how to install windows 98 at n900 from the latest dosbox version 0.74-0maemo6 i will be grateful :)

Do you have your own copy of win98.img?

You would also be better of reading the Dosbox thread for the location of the .conf file (I can't remember it location atm) as you will need to mount the image.

yes minkin2 im have the win98.img
im reading all dosbox thread but i just found only version from 0.73 -0.65
i found one page at maemo garage maybe but im forget the link sorry.. its just saying a simple setting config and keyboard then i typed the command but its causing an error. please help me minkin2 :)

the error its still in the config like the img posision and keyboard.sys.. minkin2 i have found the link http://wiki.maemo.org/DOSBox would you read it and explain to me thanks :)

okay it;s working with 0.74-0maemo6


You need to create the following directory /home/user/MyDocs/dos/98

Basically in your mydocs create a new folder called "dos" and within that another called "98". The place the win image inside the 98 folder...

Then add this command to the end of your .conf file

mount c /home/user/MyDocs/dos c: imgmount e c:\98\w98.img -t hdd -fs fat boot -l c

or you can just replace the .conf file with mine and the tweaks that I have attached (just remove the .txt extension first)

Once it loads it is quite responsive, however the mouse & cursor has alway been buggy due to old windows never being designed for touch screen use. Personally I have always preferred win95 as it has a smaller OS footprint and does not freeze half as much.

As for its usefulness? Well if you have a specific windows program that you need and does not require too much mouse interaction then it's handy to have. If you don't and you can find a more suitable program to use in easy debian, then it is more of an curiosity that you can mark it down as another cool thing the n900 can do.
