(solved)apt-get dist-upgrade :reboot loop
Hello guys,
Today as soon as I have seen the kernel-power 51 in the devel,I tried upgrading with apt-get .Every thing went smooth and I have upgraded smoothly. I don't really knoe about what crossed my mind but I executed sudo apt-get dist-upgrade command.It said 433 mb space will be freed and some 3000 kb will be downloaded.I happily said yes and it took some time and switched it self off after some time. Then I thought some thing is amiss I started to flash from my Ubuntu system but it struck at usb device not found.Battery was full.Even I wanted to hold the "U" key all thorough the procedure but It stopped at the same line usb device not found.Then I tried charging the phone with wall charger.Now its in reboot loop. So guys please suggest me what I should be doing and get my phone life back Thanks in advance. Edit. changing the battery solved my problem.Thanks all. |

Re: apt-get dist-upgrade :reboot loop
@udaychaitanya16,
I see two possibilities: 1. you are using Windows (64-bit?). makes everything unnecessarily complicated, OR 2. your USB port does not work reliably (welcome to the club! :) One question: What did you expect when doing dist-upgrade? upgrade to Maemo6 or what? :) |
Re: apt-get dist-upgrade :reboot loop
1.no I am using ubuntu 12.04
2.Have to check the usb cable 3.LOL .Really I don't know why I wanted to brick the device with that command.Even It is not reliable for ubuntu too. |
Re: apt-get dist-upgrade :reboot loop
Guys ,
1. I have tried cold flashing also but no luck.It said that boot loader has been installed. 2. Then I tried to flash the vanilla image , combined image but nothing happens .It says the same thing "Suitable usb device not found waiting" 3. I tried all the usb ports in my PC 4. If somebody tells me the use case of rescue os of NIN101 I will try that too.Is it suitable for me? |
Re: apt-get dist-upgrade :reboot loop
dist-upgrade is not recommended in most cases. You might find discussions if you did a Power Search for dist-upgrade. I have successfully used it from time to time here, but it has been regarded as risky and unnecessary for a long time.

Re: (solved)apt-get dist-upgrade :reboot loop
is it because of image mis-match?

I don't know if it is the correct way to do it, but a cold-flash with flasher-3.5 resolved the issue for me. Check this out: http://wiki.maemo.org/Updating_the_f.../Cold_Flashing I used the *COMBINED*.bin where he used "image.bin". |
