Who will switch to LUMIA 920, or consider buying it?
I will splurge on this one. N900 great phone, but corporate email did not exist, nor work and way too slow. The iphone was a good phone, but email reception was not that great as compared to BB. The new LUMIA 920 will offer the same security as BB, and great email interface. Sooooo, they got my dollars. Cant wait to splurge!!!

*looks at Lumia 900 that won't get updated to WP8*
*looks at who started this thread* Not I. |
Re: Who will switch to LUMIA 920, or consider buying it?
I'm definately buying a lumia 920, or other wp8 phone.
The n9 was my chance to shift from wp7 since that phone died. I came to love the N9, especially the UI and big community with it's customisation capabilities, but can't seem to lose my windows phone itch. |

The N9 is an awesome phone, sure, it's email client has it's issues, but other than that, it's fast, stable, has awesome tweaks to it, and the community is made of pure awesome. My only other complaint is the lack of a HW keyboard. But all the ******ed WPx phones that Nokia have released lack one too. Oh, and there is that whole "Microsoft are an evil empire trying to lock you into their jail." thing that makes me shy away from anything with their crappy (new) logo. I won't be going that route, if my N9 ever dies, I'll probably just go back to my N900. If that dies as well... then it all depends on what Jolla does. If they don't release something with a hardware keyboard, and basically on equal grounds with what the N900 has (FM transmitter, pressure sensitive screen, etc) then I'll probably just end up going back to a 'dumb' phone. One that I don't have to charge for a few weeks at a time. slaapliedje |

I will paint no rosy images about the N9. As a phone, it's great. Makes and completes the call without incident. For e-mail messages, it's starting to show its age. Browsing... passable but I carry a tablet with me always now. And besides... I can tweak my N9 to allow for free tethering. Can't do that on the Lumia 900. It will allow me to bide my time much better than the Lumia 900. That's my take. |

And I'm sticking with my N9, waiting to see what the Jolla release has in store... |

Re: Who will switch to LUMIA 920, or consider buying it?
you know when i first saw WP OS I honestly thought it was sexy. it was so fluid and nice, but to find out that the functionality doesn't quite match up was a massive disappointment

Re: Who will switch to LUMIA 920, or consider buying it?
I see the N900 owners more likely to go:
Jolla (if any good) > Android 4+ > BBX ~ iOS 6 > WP8. I mean iOS and WP are on equal footing if you think about software restrictions etc etc, but at least iOS has a large ecosystem to boot. QNX/BlackBerry10 seems like the "spiritual successor" to Harmattan and webOS so users are more likely to jump to it than iOS, however it also has some restrictions and basically no ecosystem. Hence, overall a tie with Apple's latest and greatest. Android 4+ is already has some familiarity with Maemo's backbone. The fact that its the world leader and getting better and better means the majority would rather this than any of the alternatives. Oh, and there's some info/evidence floating around that the next Android version (5.0) will have a dramatic change "under the hood" and it'll rely on The Linux Kernel or a new kernel that shares very identicle resemblance to the mainline kernel (un-forking). I only put Jolla in the list because I'm hopeful, it may be vaporware afterall. Or worse, humiliating. (PS What ever happened to the Vivaldi Tablet ?) |
Re: Who will switch to LUMIA 920, or consider buying it?
I'll be sticking with my Nokia E7 for the moment.
Tempted to pick of a Nokia 808 though. |
Re: Who will switch to LUMIA 920, or consider buying it?
Not switching to WP8, neither Jolla, N9 will always stick with me until it breaks into half.

Seriously, Lumia 920/WP8 looks promising :D

Re: Who will switch to LUMIA 920, or consider buying it?
I had a Lumia 800. There are quite a lot of important (to me) features that WP7 lacks, so I returned it and use my old Symbian based C7 as my main phone again meanwhile.
Will I buy a WP8 based Lumia? Depends on if these issues are resolved. I don't find any detailed information on WP8 so I cannot decide at the moment, but I'm relatively sure WP8 will not have the features I need. It's not that Microsoft couldn't implement them in WP7, they didn't want to because it's against their business model. So there's hardly any hope this will change in WP8. So... no, probably no Lumia 920 for me. |
Re: Who will switch to LUMIA 920, or consider buying it?
Samsung Galaxy Note
I have been living with the Note for a couple of weeks now. From an IT persons perspective I can just barely get the sort of things done that I want and took for granted on the N900, OpenVPN, VNC, RDP, SSH, for instance all have just barely working versions which can be found if one looks hard enough through the Android store. No hardware keyboard suks! I can't run PHP and many other little annoyances, such as having to sell your soul to Google are only just balanced by the larger screen, the nearly functional pen and most of the Angry birds series, without which I would not have tried to use it as a primary device at all. Whilst not "Open" like the N900 it is certainly more "Open" when compared to devices such as the iPhone or WP8 neither of which are serious contenders. The N900 is perfect for my use and the Note is missing many of the features I take for granted on the N900. But for now I will struggle on with the Note but only so I can use the time to upgrade my trusty N900 to CSSU, now if it only had a bigger screen what a perfect device that would be! rgds |
Re: Who will switch to LUMIA 920, or consider buying it?
No, nope, nada. N9 & 808 each outshine WP8 in terms actual functionality. Once N9 & 808 gets old & grey, Android is next

Give a man a 41MP phone and he'll be happy for a day. Teach a man to get over it and he'll be happy everyday.

Well for me a smartphone is a hackers tool, you know, kind of swiss army way of thinking. A closed ecosystem & OS kind of kill all the benefits you can get from it.
So, unless you can flash it with an open OS, it's no fun and no use for me. |

Re: Who will switch to LUMIA 920, or consider buying it?
the only way i would entertain a 920 is if Nokia give me one free then i will sell it and use the money to buy whatever Jolla bring to the market other wise i will continue using my N9, 808 and N950 which should last me a good few years until Jolla get there products perfected.

They have more posts about WPhone than Android or even iOS... and that's on a iOS-bias site (I mean Josh is pretty biased). I find them delusional, irrational and just fanboys. Some have claimed that they aren't real people/members but paid employers to build hype for Microsoft. Which wouldn't be a first for Microsoft. |

Re: Who will switch to LUMIA 920, or consider buying it?
Why switch :P
I own N900,N9 and Lumia 920. hardware spec of the lumia are good and the camera and special the lenses are great. Carl Zeiss rules. Software WP8 sucks bigtime. Even with Development status. The SDK WP8 don't let me laugh and yes i smoke! Fun things like NFC is so poor on WP8 if you compare it to android. In WP8 you cannot do any real system switching.(like wifi on) Battery use is dramatic on the lumia even with batterysavers. So buy one if you are a not that creatief, you love it :P (nice office phone to get for free) So i personal, thank the linux god to send us sailfish! Let's go jolla! |
