Nokia N9 PR1.3 Music Player Album Art Bug
 

Hi guys/girls.

This is my first post here. I was wondering if someone can help me?
I have updated to the PR1.3.

Now I encode all my songs to MP3/M4A with embedded album art. Now on the music player on the Nokia N9 when you first start the music player application it shows all the recent albums at the top but as soon as you click on a cover art the songs plays fine but the cover art section is black but if that album has more songs and if you swipe to the next track the album art displays.

If you go into the albums section on the Nokia Music Player N9, it shows list of all albums but no cover art on the left side.

Its probably due to the embedding not done correctly...The N9 is quite fussy when it comes to album art and ID3 tags...Maybe try using another music player on the n9 like sigma player to confirm whether its an embedding issue...

I'm not sure...I use Mp3tag v2.5.2...Don't know whether its good enough but in my rare usage it does its job...

Do you have the original pre-loaded nokia music files found on the N9? I want to do some tests see if there album arts works then it will be the software I am using.

Could be that the Nokia N9 I got is a malaysian product code? Would it make a difference if I flash it to Europe version? Maybe thats the reason it can't read ID3 tagging?

Oh no that doesn't make a difference...Anyway its still being uploaded...It failed the first time round...i think a few mins more and it'll be done...

1. What software do you use to encode your music files and what format to?
2. How do you get album art to work on PR1.3?
3. How do you transfer the songs? Mass Storage or using Nokia Link?

- I use Mp3Tag for the tags and VLC to convert them when I need to

- Yes my album art works properly

- Mass Storage or WinSCP...

What format you converting to? MP3?
I convert my tracks to M4A maybe thats the problem why its not working.

Yup i keep them at MP3...I'm not sure as I've never tried M4A...

The reason why I use M4A it's superior to MP3. Check out Dolby Pulse it's awesome and N9 supports it.

Does VLC support M4A encoding?

I will get back to you after I eat my dinner and try out;
- MP3
- MP3Pro
- VLC > MP3 other formats.

Right I encode my songs and then I use MP3Tag to attach album art and then I save it by clicking on the floppy icon but this stupid n9 displays album art when you first start music player but in the album/artist list it does not show up and when you click on to song it's just a black screen on the album art part.

Can you explain how you do it?

No issues here.
I use only v2 (id3) tags with album art.

Even use .flac files with embedded art but then it could take a while before the album art is shown in artist/album list.

Hmmm, this is rate annoying.

What options do you have ticked in the options > tag (Mpeg)

I will record a video and show you my album art on my phone.

Aha, I have found the problem LOL

I reset my Nokia N9. Transferred Maroon 5 album as seen on the video above. It took 30 minutes to fully sync album art LOL. Now it works fine and now it even shows up and no more black screen :)

I appreciate your help. However you should give this a try...

1. Download http://www.poikosoft.com/
2. Convert your music files to .M4A (Dolby Pulse HE ACC) 64KBit/s Stereo. Fill in your Tags etc, add album art.
3. Open MP3Tag and add the songs and then highlight all the tracks and just copy and paste album art and save.
4. Send to your N9.

The sound quality of the Dolby Pulse in 64Kbit/s Stereo is exatcly same as MP3/WMA at 320Kbit/s, give it a try :)

I simply use ID3 editor to add art to songs.
N9 finds them immediately (mp3, flac, m4a) So dont know why you still need to wait?

But why do you save the art twice? Not clear to me.

I had the same issue until I fixed another bug relating to the gallery, now both my gallery and my cover art are working properly.

UPDATE!
Got it working!!!

I had the product code: 059K114
I changed and updated the software to: 059K756 which is Switzerland variant and now album art works instantly!

Weird. I never had a problem with album art. I always use mp3tag as well.

Oh well, if anyone comes around to this thread having a similar problem.. change product code to Switzerland :P
