should i upgrade from n900?
Ive had my n900 for 1.5 years its been good but there's some quirks i can't fix even with cssu and 900mhz oc. i was wondering how the n9 compares
i actually like the lumia series and was looking forward to the 920. but im on tmobile usa and its availability looks exclusive to at&t. (anti competition, dunno what they're thinking when they're trying to gain market share) i do want to own an n9 for my collection so i found a used one for 2/3 the price of the retail price. but its cracked on the glass by the plastic. about half a cm long. and its black, i prefer magenta :o cliffs: n900 want to get an n9 but curious if problems are fixed. |
Re: should i upgrade from n900?
I can see all of your problems with the N900 is the "slowness",
if you dont want to sell it let me please recommend you to flash it and install cssu-thumb then you can compare it with the N9 speed :) what cssu-thumb ? power search up ahead ;) Good luck ./sifo |
Re: should i upgrade from n900?
cssu-thumb doesn't give you the smoothness and speed compared to the n9 sadly...I've both and although i got the n9 first and the n900 later on; its sad but true the internals for the n900 have become slightly long in the tooth...
A n9 nicely overclocked to 1150mhz is faster and more usable... However as sifo said yup try cssu-thumb first since you already have the n900... Btw for your questions: Quote:

Still, the N9 is a HUGE improvement over the N900 on answering calls. 2) I find the email experience better on the N9. It's faster, plus newsletters look and load way better on it. I have a huge problem with newsletters (containing lots of images) on the N900. 3) Videos and images load way faster on the N9. It's not even funny. 4) I don't even know if mms work on the N9. Never use mms myself. Why bother, actually? Why not sending the picture via an email? 5) Browser is a mixed bag. It's definitely faster on the N9 BUT the N900 has properly working flash player plus all the numerous keyboard shortcuts that make serfing a breeze. So... internet on N900 is little slower but more "complete", if you get my grip. ^ pretty understandable outcome considering the 1GB ram the N9 has (plus the faster CPU) |

Try it, try both please, ;)

Re: should i upgrade from n900?
Buy lumia 920, will be much better than N9. For me, N9 was a downgrade from N900

But as Lumia specialist, how would you prevent MS spying on your everything if you were to accept N920 for a phone that just works? I have read that IM XMPP clients (already builtin N900 feature) etc...cannot benefit from real time networking and that programs requiring socket connection are heavily routed over MS Sockets and difficult to program, is that true? Any idea if a good video XMPP client has been programmed already? |

It really gives it fuel to go further. But, the N9 will always be faster. No matter how much you optimize the SW... it's the HW that makes the difference (snapy/speed wise). The N9's stronger HardWare really shows. : ) *I love both devices though |
Re: should i upgrade from n900?
is thumb2 a branch of cssu? i do have the latest cssu installed.
thumb2 seems another branch of troubleshooting. i'd rather not install it in the middle of my senior year i don't have battery patch installed i bother with mms because my friends do. sadly i cant boss them to just email it to me. partly wanting a new toy. partly because i can reply faster on google voice that i can on my n900 and i don't like carrying an extra battery. i'll probably get a 16gb because i want to switch to streaming music. i don't listen to my library much except for the latest 10 albums i've acquired i do like playing embedded flash videos but at the cost of browsing speed no thanks. ive been reading mixed reports on google calendar sync. guess i won't know till i try. can use the 920 because its not 3.5g pentaband its only LTE pentaband |
Re: should i upgrade from n900?
then the n9 16gb would be better with its low cost and covering the main functions that you are looking for...

don't know about MMS (don't use it) but simply 2+ yrs of convo means some SMS/IM windows take a couple seconds to open. phone calls are fine, but i have reflashed (even my primary N900) at least twice a year and i don't use any games / themes  basically, even though i love to have a... Linux computer in my pocket  it is 1st and foremost my (mobile) phone. whenever i install something, this has to keep working. if it doesn't after installing something, something is gone :D if something can't be uninstalled properly (CSSU comes to mind :(), re-flash... i have CSSU-thumb on my 2nd N900 (30 to 40 MB more RAM available compared to prime) but CSSU is such as mess... and i don't do (many) phone calls from nbr.2... |

period i'm not saying it is only CSSU; it might well be CSSU interacting with another apps i have installed along the way in the last 2 yrs have somewhere between 150 and 200 not even the same on prime and 2nd but i rather suspect that it is b/c i don't make (many) calls w/ 2nd. a few days i had CSSU stable on prime i had to take the battery out up to three times / day  re-flash, same apps w/ pk (was v49 or so back then) and runs days or even weeks at end. same apps otherwise thus, mess what are you trying to prove with
that you can do everything, alas nothing right? focus. |
Re: should i upgrade from n900?
libcurl3 is included in cssu.
cssu mess is just adding portrait and other functionalities and some packages that just stopped working. nothing negative on cssu, i love it and the community for keeping it up. I'm long overdue for a reflash i suppose. ive actually bought an n9 2 days ago and love it! I thought i'd come back and answer my own questions

Which exactly flavor did you try and when? An year ago? Where is your bug report? Quote:
Focus? On what? Focus on solving your inability to keep your device in consistent state? Come on, why do you think your device is the most important thing CSSU team should take care of. Lower your self esteem a bit, ok? That way maybe you'll realize that it is highly impolite to preach anyone else but your relatives. Esp when you are even not familiar with those people. Anyway, you'd better educate yourself. Let me try to help you: http://wiki.maemo.org/Community_SSU/ChangelogStable http://wiki.maemo.org/Community_SSU/Changelog http://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?p...97&postcount=1 And before someone accuse me of having no clue how great N9 is, remember, I was one of the CA winners (N950). You may ask yourself why I am not using it as my primary device, but one of my n900s. Though - different people, different needs. |

N900 ---> N9 ---> Jolla Mobile
