Xbox 360 or PS3?
Hello guys, I am just really confused.. I am willing to buy an Xbox 360 after a few days. Some people convince me to go to PS3, while others tell me to go for 360. I want to play the newest and strongest games here yet, I don't really care about online games.. I just want to sit and play on it, I want the strongest of graphics and the one that barely overheats. I wan't a console that can run copies (I will not waste each $30 for one original game, I would much rather buy a cracked game for 0.99 Cents.)
All in all, xbox 360 or PS3? ________________________ I am a gamer, I tried extreme games on PC and wanna try it on consoles, so I need strong games just like: -Upcoming GTA V -BattleField 3 -Call Of Duty -Need For Speed Most Wanted 2012 -Max Payne 3 -Mass Effect 3 -Saints Row 3 -L.A Noire Thanks! |
Re: Xbox 360 or PS3?

Re: Xbox 360 or PS3?
Well, I own the Xbox 360. On hindsight, I should have bought the PS3. Paying 50 € a year for being able to play games online seems kind of stupid, especially since it's free with the PS3. But then, you said you won't be playing online. Overall, Xbox 360 and PS3 are the same. If you're looking to play downloaded games, you should look for places that sell modded consoles that can play downloaded games. Just buy whichever is cheaper..

Re: Xbox 360 or PS3?
If you are wanting to play pirated games, then you are pretty much stuffed for this gen. Both consoles will be subjected to Network and On Disk system updates that can revert any software changes made to the consoles. One good example I can give of this was a couple of years ago when MS left a good number of UK users with paper weights after an update was pushed down and bricked their chipped consoles. (haha)
As for the games consoles themselves, many do say that the Xbox is better for multi-platform games, which if you are not a developer means that the Microsoft does not have many Top tier 1st party games. Sony has many in house IP developers who are very good at pushing the envelope of the PS3 and then the 3rd party companies have become quite adept at masking over the short comings of both machines. I have both machines and my preference goes to the PS3. If you are wanting to be cheap with you gaming habits the I would go for a ps3 too, you can get a greater number of online services for free and without the need to pay for an online subscription. That said though, see what your friends are playing as you would be able to buy/swap/share games with them. |
Re: Xbox 360 or PS3?
The PS3 is the superior console, but the 360 has its perks:
360 advantages: - Some titles get ported a little earlier - Some games look a little better (DirectX vs PS SDK) - Has a few more exclusive titles - About $50-$100 cheaper - Best online community - More players - Arguably better controller - Kinect is a gimmick, but its still an option PS3 advantages: - Bluetooth means cheaper, generic and much much more accessories - Online gaming is free (unlike Xbox) - It plays BluRay - A few exclusive titles - The hard-drive can be removed, replaced, upgraded (even to SSD) - More content can be saved and played off the console (eg Movies in HDD) - It can browse the internet (and so becomes a "Smart TV") - Record TV - PS Move is a genuine "body motion sensor" with less hassles - Backwards compatibility with select models - Linux support on [very] old version consoles |

Re: Xbox 360 or PS3?
Thanks for all your suggestions; I just want to clarify that I don't care about online gaming since my internet is slow so useless.. My house is not so big so kinect/PS Move is useless too. I don't care about Blu-Ray. And it's not my option to get pirated/copy games, but this country barely has stores that sell original games.. I don't wanna go to another city just for each game.. So I am stuck with copies which is only compatible with xbox. Now you know what i exactly want, so.. Xbox or PS3? And I am not a billionaire so I can't get something more than $300, and if I am going for an xbox, I will get it without the kinect, how much will it cost?

Re: Xbox 360 or PS3?
+ I heard that Xbox 360 has common problems; red ring of death.. Rapid overheating.. ? Is this true? I don't want to fall in the trap though.. Although I don't know which one to go for, the xbox looks much more beautiful.. I hate PS3 design..

Re: Xbox 360 or PS3?
Yeah I know what you mean, they are both great in their own ways.
With the games that you listed in the OP, your friends all having Xboxes and the internet being out of the question then I would definitely go with the Xbox360. Now you asked about the red ring of death earlier... This was a BIG problem for the earlier versions where they used poor quality solder on the mobo and inferior cooling compounds for the CPU, resulting in the separation of components when the Xbox started to over heat. The problems eventually became less frequent with later board revisions though and the latest model seems to be rather solid machines (OK they did take the LED out that displayed the Red Ring lol). I would buy the new system too, as you will get the full store & manufactures warranty. Stay away from 2nd hand and return units!!! You can never be sure of their history. *Disclaimer; I have known many people over the years that have gone through several Xboxes and I'm only speaking from their experiences and from those others who have reported this on the web. MY OWN Xbox is an original launch model (bought on the day of release in the UK) and has never faltered once, to the dismay of my friends. Lol |

Why not both?

@AMD
With all the details you've given me, I'd recommend the PS3 320GB Slim Model. Why? Its just a good a the Xbox 360 but it has the potential to be better for you in the future (Bluetooth, BluRay, 3D movies, 3D games, PS Move, TV recorder, Internet browse, free PSN) and its priced the same. However, I would only recommend the Xbox 360 only if you are underage/poor and can borrow the games from your friends. Or if you are rich and online gaming is important to you. I would make sure both the PS3 / Xbox are in a ventilated area so they both over-heat and explode. Neither have problems like the Red Ring or Yellow Light because of better QC in manufacturing. |

Why not buy a new GPU for a desktop computer? Remember to buy the cheapest model and just upgrade the HDD yourself. |

Re: Xbox 360 or PS3?
Wow, I didn't see that one about him pirating games.
In that case, don't buy the Xbox 360 or PS3... you're just adding to the filth. "Buy" yourself the OUYA for $149 and wait for Q2 2013. |
Re: Xbox 360 or PS3?
Was playTV ever released in lebanon?
Got it myself and will admit that it is one cool feature of the ps3 |

Re: Xbox 360 or PS3?
Guys.. I can't get something more than 300 bucks.. It's not even my birthday, I just happened to have $150 from my allowance and Eid al Adha is in a few days coming. I want the cheaper.. If it is an xbox 360, I would get the one without kinect. And I don't want a PS3 since it doesn't play copies.. And unfortunately almost all Lebanon sells copies. And online gaming is useless to me for free since all of my classmates have xboxes.. So it seems to be xbox.. Does it have common (with no solution) problems?

Also, wrt 'game backups' (hurr), go ask for the specifics somewhere else. No doubt you can't afford a $30 game, much less the $60 AAA titles. Quote:

I mean if you don't have the money for a console, you have bigger issues to worry about. We've all "pirated" before, but mostly out of nessesity not to down-right abuse the system. We believe in the "open source spirit" but that doesn't mean we condone piracy --in fact, since most of us know/work around software we appreciate it more than others. We are the most active people against piracy, I thought you would've learnt that by now. But if you are a kid, and you sound like one, then you should forget about it entirely. I mean stealing games is petty crime, but its a gateway to other crimes. And I would know. I mean the worst part is, you are affecting yourself, your personality and undermining your own morals and values. Not to forget the type of message you send to your parents and people that look up to you. And I don't think that's a fair trade for some lousy games. TL;DR Earn the money/ability to play games fairly otherwise don't play at all. |
Re: Xbox 360 or PS3?
For each console, make a list of the games available for it that you want to play, remembering to look at both download-only and disk-based games. Once you've built your lists, discard from them all games available for both consoles. Then compare the two lists of remaining games to determine which list is more compelling.
My wife and kids are gamers, so we have all three current generation consoles. Two of the systems are used almost daily, while the other was played with only briefly before being forgotten for more than a year now. As with every console generation prior, which systems "won" and which "lost" in my house has everything to do with how the available games match up with my family's interests, and that never seems to follow the general consensus of posters in online discussion boards. And please don't pirate games. If money is tight, you could always consider a console from a previous generation. High definition graphics and surround sound are stunning, but they don't mean the actual, underlying game has improved by the same degree. There are many great old games out there. |
Re: Xbox 360 or PS3?
Here's a better idea:
Assuming you have a desktop PC, get a new GPU, and use the cash you saved to buy your games. There aren't any real console exclusives anymore unless you're into obscure JRPGs. |

PC+Steam.
The alpha and omega in distribution channels. Also, take advantage of the seasonal sales. EDIT: Specs? If it's newer than a Pentium 4, a nice GPU would do the trick. You'd be surprised to see how much the GPU has become the centerpiece of PC gaming. |

My processor is Dual Core 2GHz and the games I want need at least 2 cores, that's the prob. |
Re: Xbox 360 or PS3?
You're between a rock and a hard place, then.
I would advise getting your games the legit way, though. Unfortunately, seeing as you don't have a way of getting a wide selection of legit games physically, and have no credit card of your own, I'd say you have only a few ways of getting games, most of which shouldn't be discussed here. I'll refrain from the whole ethical aspect, piracy apologist, etc. arguments. They really aren't TMO discussion material. |

p.s. I think it's totally fine to pirate big games, e.g. MW3 grossed over 400 million USD within just 24 hours (the biggest entertainment launch of all time), and it's basically just MW2 with new skins.. |

Re: Xbox 360 or PS3?
Lebanon does have stores selling original games. You're just going to those cheap game stores which copy and sell for profit. Don't blame a country just because you couldn't find something on your own.
Go to a mall or some original Microsoft store where you'll buy your Xbox from and you'll get all original games. Also, buying a console means you'll be spending sh*t loads of cash if you wanna enjoy new game titles every time one is released. And PS3 and Xbox 360 are over 6 years old now. The hardware is getting old. You can't upgrade it; you'll just have to live with it till they stop producing games or buy PS4 when it comes out. If you compare the graphics and performance of PS3 and on a desktop computer with good components, then you'll be surprised at the difference. Desktop computers can be upgraded and still be used with MS or Sony or third party controllers. The performance is unparalleled. I would never buy a console for games as it's just a commercial way of selling them. The games were produced on a PC - they should be played on a PC. Either way, it's just my opinion; today's technology is developing extremely fast, so buying a console at this time wouldn't be a good choice. Oh and if you like modding and hacking your N9, you'd love modding a game. Damn, the possibilities are endless and.. that "open" feeling just isn't there on a console game. |
