[Announce] Emoji keyboard public beta

Hi everyone,

I created an emoji keyboard for the N9. It is a one page layout only. Emoji are accessed with long key press.

Download deb

Changelog:

v0.1.3:
- fixed chars from Smiile's bugreport

v0.1.2:
- added auto activation after keyboard installation
- added proper removal script which only removes emoji keyboard from installed languages

v0.10:
initial version

Screenshots (what it should look like):

Thanks fly out to knobtviker for testing!

Thanks!

No issues but I think you may prefer to put the postinst into digsigsums too:

Code:

# dpkg -i /home/user/MyDocs/Downloads/emoji-0.1.0_armel.deb
file /var/lib/dpkg/tmp.ci/digsigsums cannot be opened
No digsigsums file
Selecting previously deselected package emoji.
(Reading database ... 96296 files and directories currently installed.)
Unpacking emoji (from .../emoji-0.1.0_armel.deb) ...
Package emoji: File '/var/lib/dpkg/info/emoji.postinst' not in digsigsums -- warning
No digsigsums file
Setting up emoji (0.0.1-0) ...
/home/user/.fonts: caching, new cache contents: 1 fonts, 0 dirs
/var/cache/fontconfig: not cleaning unwritable cache directory
/home/user/.fontconfig: cleaning cache directory
fc-cache: succeeded
aegis-installing emoji (from '')

I observed the below too; any advice?:

Tested it several times. Keyboard should show properly. Try a reboot even if that is not satisfying.
Concerning the SMS: I guess that will never work because SMS application would need a patch for that.

One page layout. Smaller package size. Only needed emoji for IOS6 included. Only one font file.

Depends what better means for you. Feel free to post your suggestions here and I will see whether I will integrate them.

Hello again brkn.!

I found two new bugs. I hope I can serve, but simply left as a comment again :).

Here we go:

1.-Some emoticons not support the grandiose wazapp
2.-When in Wazapp or another app tries to do the following things happen to check: We put two smilies and if for some reason we get confused and delete one creates the error. Although our emoticon keyboard displayed correctly when send error happens, this happens only with some emoticons.

Use wazapp because it is the only app that supports all smileys and is a good way to check the performance of your wonderful app.

Good day.!

Sorry for my bad English.!

This is indeed an issue I am aware of. I already have the fix for Wazapp but I need to do some further testing. Once it works, I will submit it to Wazapp Github repository.

Re: [Announce] Emoji keyboard public beta

Is there a way to make the icons viewable in a text editor like notepad++ on win7, Mac or Ubuntu?

brkn 2013-02-03 23:45

Yes by copying the emoji font file from your device on your pc.

Re: [Announce] Emoji keyboard public beta

^^Phew, that was easy. :) Sorry, should have looked into the .deb first...
Is it possible to install that font on N9 without installing emoji?
Same question goes for harmoji icons.
I simply want the characters to be available in system (eg. Billboard) without the keyboard-thingy.
