nokia n9 IMEI random erase
2 Attachment(s)
Hi guys,
It's my first time posting here. I recently bought a nokia n9 been using two months(really geat phone), however two nights ago my phone lost it's signal. I tried to fix it by restarting my phone, then getting another sim card. After that I cleared the settings, then I cleared the device still didn't fix it. Yesterday i checked the about setting to know what version of meego I had installed (pr.1.3), however I noticed the IMEI section was blank. I dialed *#06# and the IMEI was still blank. So my question is how can I write my IMEI back into the device I still know my IMEI because I've kept the box it came in and it's written on a very small sticker on the device |

Re: nokia n9 IMEI random erase
Yes, the IMEI sticker is on the phone. No, it was never sold in my region. Maybe, I have valide proof I have the original bok and an ebay invoice. I've called Nokia care in Canada and the told me the problem would be esclated and that they should call me back with in 48 hrs.

if it is not hardware related the GSM should be available there normally personally i would wait for call back from NOKIA (installing NitDroid even thought it can be un-installed without any trace, voids your warranty). |

still have to flash my N9 myself for the 1st time, feeling a little nervous about it. have to do it on @!#$%& m$ LostDOS as i don't have buntu have to look into putting a live CD on an USB stick, maybe |

It flashes without any issues on Windows too... I was nervous flashing my n900 on win7 x64 due to the usb known issue but for the n9 it was really a walk in the park :) |

i also have a 7 x64 partition to update drivers for the computer but never bothered using that to flash the N900 (x64?). alas, openSUSE too "controls" the USB ports at a very low level; can be disabled at kernel level, but then you have to mount every USB device you connect yourself  instead i always used SystemRescueCD, a Gentoo based Live CD (or USB ) as the N900 flasher was simply a executable it could be run from any shell :D don't understand why they changed that :( !@#$%& buntu crap  anyway, i'll try the LostDOS version i guess  |

If there would be an exploit for end users to write their own imei on modem, Nokia would have to recall every single N9 device out there in the world. And that would be a bad thing for N9 lovers :) |
Re: nokia n9 IMEI random erase
Facing the same issue. went to Nokia Store. They said There is no warranty for this product. and they fixed power issue and took charge for that. But I cannot plug a SIM as there is no IMEI. and they couldn't solve that issue. So I've no choice other than flushing.
I assume there is no external flusher device required. I just need to connect the phone in USB put appropriate bin file there I've a genuine IMEI. that I can use. But how would set IMEI after flushing ? |
Re: nokia n9 IMEI random erase
"nokia n9 IMEI random erase "-wrong , wrong , wrong , your phone isn't communicating with the gsm chip , you can't erase the imei and write a new one ,at least not yet (hope so) the n900 has a huge thread about that

Re: nokia n9 IMEI random erase
The device IMEI is fixed in the chipset. When device boots, NOLO will tell the IMEI to the running kernel via command line paraeter passing, and the applications in Harmattan get it from kernel. The problem here is that for some reason Harmattan does not get it correctly.
To check if this is so, go to terminal and type "cat /proc/cmdline" You will see the IMEI as part of the command line parameters. Why flashing corrects this, obviously you have some problem in the Harmattan core applications and flashing restores this. If you knew what's the problem, you could just restore that application instead of flashing the device clean. |

does that mean My hardware is ok ? |

The problem is that some program block in Harmattan is not behaving correctly. |
Re: nokia n9 IMEI random erase
Is it necessary to select one particular country variant ? I've selected the first one RM-696 SE SE Black 16GB V1 - MR (059L4M9). Is there any fatal risk to select a different country like phone dead ?
and how would I know which one I am using ? flasher -i is saying Code:
USB device found at bus 002, device address 003. |
Re: nokia n9 IMEI random erase
As your device has already installed a DFL61_HARMATTAN_40.2012.21-3_PR_006
you cannot install anything that has a lower version number, and that includes also the country variant (as it would be seen as 'downgrade'). Probably best option is to stick with same version (which I think it's the Middle East generic version) You cannot use 'Rest of World' version (version name ends with _001) and all operator specific which you probably want to avoid have a ending number >100. I don't know what f/w version 059L4M9 uses, but if the flasher cannot proceed, it's because you tried a 'downgrade'. No risk to brick your phone, if you just follow the instructions. |
Re: nokia n9 IMEI random erase
Code:
DFL61_HARMATTAN_40.2012.21-3.280.04.1_PR_LEGACY_280_ARM_RM-696_PRD_signed.bin also where would I get the same PR_006 version ? |
Re: nokia n9 IMEI random erase
Hmm It looks like I've got the right one now. But want to confirm. The
Product code on the back of my SIM slot is 059J217 Which I see is RM-696 NDT MEA1 MEA2 BLACK 16GB and that is 006 only. So Should I safely proceed ? because the file I am going to download have `LEGACY` in it and mine doesn't |
Re: nokia n9 IMEI random erase
neel.basu,
Yes proceed... |
Re: nokia n9 IMEI random erase
Just Flushed. But problem persists. It says "Failed to flash images" But when I manually start the phone it shows the start tour.
PHP Code:
|
Re: nokia n9 IMEI random erase
any help ?
|
Re: nokia n9 IMEI random erase
If the phone is able at least to boot (as you say you can see the start tour) check that date + time is set correctly, and if not, set the date and the re-flash it.
BTW when you re-flash it for good measure wipe the MMC (i.e. add --erase-mmc=secure parameter) |
Re: nokia n9 IMEI random erase
Then I won't specify the mmc image ? as I am erasing mmc.
with MMC binary Code:
sudo flasher Code:
sudo flasher |
Re: nokia n9 IMEI random erase
Still No Success I ran --erase-mmc=secure it with mmc binary after I set date time
Code:
10:35:23 ~/Desktop/N9-059J217$ sudo flasher -F DFL61_HARMATTAN_40.2012.21-3_PR_LEGACY_006-OEM1-958_ARM.bin -F 528DA068_DFL61_HARMATTAN_40.2012.13-7.MEA_EMMC_MEA.bin -f -R --erase-mmc=secure Why cmt-algo and cmt-mcusw are not flushed at any time ? |
Re: nokia n9 IMEI random erase
