Looks nice. Too bad it don't have a Stylus or Sailfish ;). could be nice with some competition for the notes. Do we need 1080 phones :D I think we doooo... US only... :o :( |

" ... Taking into account that a reliable source of ours got to see HTC's 5-inch 6435LVW phablet recently, this would make the Find 5 unofficially the second device to receive the same full HD panel. ... " But this is intressting development and raising the bar. Would you buy a phone of today with less resolution than 720p resolution? |

and btw, oppo find 5 is already out, the HTC is still isn't :) |
Re: HTC DNA first 1080p phone
Ok, it's a draw :D
I want one of these displays side by side with my current phones to see the difference. Anyone own an oppo yet? |
Re: HTC DNA first 1080p phone
BS. Another meaningless number that is supposed to impress Joe Sixpack and his grandmother.
1080p on 5" is overkill. Especially when 90% of 15" laptops still has 720p. It should be the other way arround. |

If they can get decent battery life out of that phone then it would sure make things easier for the video junkies out there. No more having to faff with video converters to adjust the resolution or have the CPU/GPU working overtime to scale down the image to fit the screen. :) |
Re: HTC DNA first 1080p phone
To be honest I prefer a 1376 x 720 resolution on a 5.2in screen. The extra 96 pixels are for on-screen buttons to give a true 16:9 aspect.
It gives a "pathetic" 299ppi. The only catch is, it needs to have RGB layout, reflective screen (CBD or Matte or otherwise), a high brightness and industry-standard viewing angled and accuracy. |

Re: HTC DNA first 1080p phone
Cant see any bad things with a 1080p screen. The only issue I can think of is that it's first generation which could have some basic issues.
Other than that I think all highend phones should have this kind of better resolution screens. |
Re: HTC DNA first 1080p phone
why 1080p is bad?
We already know how this SOC will perform at 1080p. If you check this review of the Nexus 4 (http://www.anandtech.com/show/6440/g...xus-4-review/3), and look at the GLbenchmark 1080p offscreen tests, you can see that the expected results are lower than the average. Now, add to that the clutter of the HTC sense skin and things get worst. Moreover the battery is just too small to support so much pixels and such a heavy CPU-GPU combination. |
Re: HTC DNA first 1080p phone
HTC is trying to replicate Nokia of yore by adding one killer feature in return for some sub-standard compromises.
That huge panel would need much juice but they put a non-replaceable 2,020mah battery with limited 16GB storage without microSD... Its a perfect example of hitting one's own foot... |

I would much rather take the best possible 720p display then some inferior 1080p. |
Re: HTC DNA first 1080p phone
I don't think the screen is the issue here. If you think the battery life is far worse than what we have today its rather a battery issue. But personally, I think what is the base of the issue is what attract users today. Slim... Ness. That the source.
Personally. Your minds need to get used to the thought of 1080p with a battery of 2xxx. No one would complain about that screen battery composition in 6 month it reaching a standard. Wait for some real tests please. And get the 1080p screens in to your head. |
Re: HTC DNA first 1080p phone
Finally, a super high resolution screen that isn't Pentile.
It'll be one hell of a visual treat to look at it. Oh wait, the maximum storage they offer on it is 16GB with no SD card slot. Not even a 64GB option! That's crazy, not everyone has teh clouds to stream their media. Also, I can blow through 8GB easily on my Android devices with games and other apps alone. You can't stream those. What is it with manufacturers and not offering a $5-on-the-BOM SD card slot? |

I have a co-worker who cannot look into pentile dispalys, he says that the colour fringing makes his eyes hurt. Myself, I honestly cannot make difference with pentile ot lcd display, in my eye N9 looks nice, it's bright and easy to read. I do not know if the difference is physiological or psychovisual, but it is real. People are different... |
Re: HTC DNA first 1080p phone
It's easy to see when looking att images/icons/details . Let's take a galaxy s3/note and put it together another phone let's say iphone 4s. It's a other the same resolution, but the android is much more foggy in details with their pentiles.

Re: HTC DNA first 1080p phone
Finally some indication of world wide version. HTC DELUXE

Re: HTC DNA first 1080p phone
i want amoled, and they can't even do 720p amoled in 5" yet without it being pentile. And while I prefer an 720p pentile than a WVGA stripe, a 720p stripe would be awesome.
Assuming fixed screen size my preference WVGA AMOLED RGB < 720p IPS LCD < 720p Pentile AMOLED < 1080p IPS LCD < 720p RGB AMOLED < 1080p RGB AMOLED Red don't exist yet |

To visualize it, lets imagine room with walls, ceilling, and floor absorbing 100% light, and 2 screens - one being 40'' 1080p, far away from viewer, and another one being N900 screen, close to eyes - both with same aspect ratio, colors, quality, etc. Viewer, without any other objets, helping to measure distance (floor, walls), and without moving head (to measure by angles) wouldn't be able to tell, which screen is close and small, or which one is big and far away. Putting more pixels on square inch is just useless. Sure, at least 1024 width helps during browsing, but it's rather due to stupid designs of nowadays websites... |

While the layout/orientation is different the sub-pixel ratios are the same. Its definitely NOT pentile, and almost an RGB. Just call it RGB. 1080 SAMOLED RGB (NOTE 4) > 720 SAMOLED RGB (NOTE 2) > 1080 SAMOLED PENTILE (NOTE 3 ?) > 720 SAMOLED PENTILE (NOTE 1) > qHD SAMOLED RGB (unmanufactored) > WVGA SAMOLED RGB (SGS2) > qHD SAMOLED PENTILE (Droid RAZR) > WVGA SAMOLED PENTILE (SGS) > WVGA AMOLED PENTILE (Nexus One) |
