Nokia Here on N9?

Title says it all. First, we'll have to see if Nokia will support the N9. If not, will we be able to port it?

Re: Nokia Here on N9?

according to Nokia the current offering on Symbian is competent enough and doesn't need any further upgrades so hence the same is even more true for Harmattan...

Here is simply a rebrand of existing products on WP... So nothing actually innovative or new...

If you say ios is getting an app so maybe something there then also you are covered as that app is simply a html5 app in a c++ wrapper...in short its m.here.net wrapped in c++; you can access m.here.net on your n9 browser...

Therefore, there is nothing new in Here that we wont be having... Maybe some extras that are available only Lumia will be missing...

It supported my N9, the browser version anyway. It even told me to add a shortcut to my home screen for easy access. So I did. :)

Its not going to happen from what we can see...If Symbian has no updates planned there is fat hope for Harmattan...

I think Nokia Drive will be renamed to Here Drive ;) from what I understand...Not very sure though...

Here Drive? What about the brand man? Nokia, get back to the golden ages where you were awesome. It probably won't happen again though...

it always seems stupid until you build a brand, plus its better than "nokia" which according to some people is obsolete.

m.maps.nokia.com work great on the N9.

You are right, I have just tried it and blimey... That page loads faster than the built in maps (locked my position, routed and satellite view too). Just needs 3d view imo

In my opinion, Nokia drive will stay, just maps will be rebranded as Here maps.
I think I read somewhere (not even sure if it's in my imagination :D ) that drive as an app willbe exclusive to Lumia only and of course all other things will be also better.

But if you change the word order from "Here drive" to "Drive Here" does not sound so stupid :p

Honestly I'm not a fan of Here...It makes it sound too generic...

If it was Nokia Here it would be understandable but removing Nokia from the equation IMO doesn't help Nokia to get mind-share among consumers of all OSes...

Isn't this why they got rid of "OVI"? And now they have Here... Learn from your history Nokia!

I to don't like rebranding the name.
Now nowbody will now (Average Joe at least), these maps are from Nokia itself.

Re: Nokia Here on N9?

wasn't it the plan that m$ offers NOKIA services for navigation and all that sort of things?
if so, it might simply be an other coward move from farthole to dismantle the brand and make it a "m$ division" :mad:

Nokia Maps ---> Ovi Maps ---> Nokia Maps (again) ---> Nokia Here
PC Suite --> Ovi Suite ---> Nokia Suite
Symbian S60 5th edition ----> Symbian^1
Symbian Belle ---> Nokia Belle

etc

damn it is annoying

haven't used NOKIA maps much (mostly on the N95 1st, later on the N900, to help me out of neighbourhoods i had gotten lost in while walking) as i have a car navigation system (with RT traffic information :D) but... aren't there also quite some functional or at least design changes with the different names :confused:

i think it is fair to say that Symbianš (or its evolutions) are quite a different sort of OS then Symbian S60 :rolleyes:
thus a different product name makes sort'a sense...

Anyone else have trouble with m.here.net where the text in any popups is too big so you cant see the whole label?

Text rendering in dialog boxes is an issue on here.net on desktop too...
