hi guys .. I need some help
if i need to change the name of an application on my n9 homescreen , how to do it ??
its just an exemple : if i need to change the wazapp to whatsapp for example so anyone know how ?

Download Simpletext app from TMO (Search it out) and open it.. Then go to /usr/share/applications/wazapp.desktop.. Open that file, you will find "Name: Wazapp" change it to anything you want and everything should go fine, no refresh or reboot needed I guess.

with meetxtedit i can't edit the file wampppluging.desktop because can't save the new one . So anyone can tell me how ?

Rabah_vip, please, there is already a brain-dev and the common-sense package installed - just use them!

Open the "/usr/share/applications/*.desktop" file you want to change with your favourite editor and replace the value of "Name=" with the new name.

The reason, why apt cannot find brain-dev in cache is because brain-dev is installed in the virtuall volume called head-room. head-room is not activated on his device!

Ok Rabah_vip, I'll break it to you; brkn was playing with you to teach you to use your brain+common sense...

What you should instead do is in terminal as root:

~# nano /usr/share/applications/waxmppplugin.desktop

edit Wazapp to WhatsApp in the Name field then press Ctrl on your toolbar followed by X it should ask you if you want to overwrite just press Y and enter key it will be saved :)

So once again; make changes to file press Ctrl+X then Y then Enter...

You can't use the editor you were using to save directly as it doesn't over-write root folder files so you could have copied it to MyDocs make changes and copy back the modified file to the origin ;)

brkn's aim was to teach you to use your brain and common sense to experiment to come to a solution or doing some searching instead of just posting on the forum... Hopefully you learn from this :)

Edit: brkn told me to give you a one-line sed command to make it easy; I'll give it to you this round but before you use this example always read up on sed to prevent any screw-ups :)

sed 's/Name=Wazapp/Name=WhatsApp/' -i /usr/share/applications

/waxmppplugin.desktop

Type the above as root in terminal in one-line...

Yup think so too; anyway have put up the sed command for him :D

Our main hope is that he learns from this and stops the posts he has become accustomed to recently just like AMD stopped and learnt to read+search after being an even worst example; hopefully he does change...
