Windows Reboot Loop
Hey everyone,
I have a strange issue with my laptop, I was installing Windows 8 and everything goes fine. Then it asks me finally :Choose your operating System: Windows 8 Ubuntu" which is normal, so I pick Windows 8. It starts booting, and BOOM! "The computer restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected error. Windows Installation cannot proceed. To install Windows, click "OK" to restart the computer, and then restart the installation.". So I restart, and the same ting happens over and over again. And when I go to BIOS Settings to boot from CD/DVD/HDD...etc. Nothing happens, as if I restarted the PC again only. Ubuntu works, but I can't boot into Windows and I have several projects going on and I need to finish those. P.S If you ask me why installing Windows at this time, it's because my Release Preview will end soon. Edit: And even the memtest.exe and Repair Disc did not work either. Edit (again): Safe Mode does not boot either and I tried opening the setup from Ubuntu but it just doesn't work, even with Wine. |
Re: Windows Reboot Loop
Format your harddisk and install Ubuntu.
13 year olds don't get it yet :p |

Re: Windows Reboot Loop
Guys, I was upgrading from Windows 8 Release Preview to Windows 8 Pro. I already had Windows 8 RP and Ubuntu dualbooted together without any problems. But after the installation my laptop won't read any disc when booting, and I cannot boot to Windows, only Ubuntu.

I was upgrading my Windows. Installed and finished. It rebooted. In the middle of booting to Windows the error mentioned appeared. So I clicked OK. It rebooted. The same happened And btw, the Windows 8 Setup was a file downloaded, not a disc since my lens was not working properly to read discs. So Windows Repair disc and memtest did not work either. I can boot into Ubuntu but I can't boot into Windows, because, well I told you why, |
Re: Windows Reboot Loop
So do you or do you not have a dual boot with Ubuntu?

Re: Windows Reboot Loop
Uhm...So? is this a dead end?
|
Re: Windows Reboot Loop
So the answer seems to be new windows has messed Grub up.
Unless i have misunderstood? |
Re: Windows Reboot Loop

Re: Windows Reboot Loop
AMD your Ubuntu is via Wubi or native?

Re: Windows Reboot Loop
It can't be via WUBI if Ubuntu boots but Windows does not.
I suspect the link I posted has an answer. It seems to be a known issue: dual boot Ubuntu with Windows, breaks upon upgrading Windows to W8. |

So... Imma send it to repair?
|
Re: Windows Reboot Loop
Well, I had an idea to mount the setup to cd drive so I can boot from it, but Ubuntu won't mount it to CD/DVD Drive which makes it difficult. Anyway I can restart the installation?

Re: Windows Reboot Loop
So, let's remove Grub first, it ****ed up your whole installation. Download and burn the Ultimate Boot CD and boot it. Select HDD, Boot Management, Super GRUB disk. Type:
Code:
Win => MBR & !WIN! :((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((( Now you've only got Windows. Feels good, huh? No, it shouldn't. We're goin' to install GRUB again. Start from a Live CD and start the terminal. From there, mount the partition Ubuntu is installed on. You don't know? sudo fdisk -l. Code:
sudo grub-install /dev/sda --root-directory=/mnt Code:
sudo update-grub EDIT: You shouldn't use Windows 8 btw, I know you're a child, but Metro is a playground for 4 year olds... Even I (14 years) think that, so... ;) |

Seriously dude, calm down. Without patience you won't make it in the OSS world:rolleyes: So, go to your parents with a USB stick and ask: "Dear parents, could I make a bootable USB stick on your laptop?", If they say no, you probably have unkind parents. If you've got unkind parents, go to a friend, or your neighbor or so ;) |

Re: Windows Reboot Loop
AMD, You have multiple options to choose from. First you will definitely need Windows 8 disc.. (It's up to you if you get a copy or an original, but I am in no way promoting piracy).. Then you need to go to the BIOS and change the boot options to make the laptop boot the DVD first, then follow instructions.. If everything got installed you could try and see if you can repair it, or if it's not detecting any Windows installations, then you will need to do a clean install..
Btw, it is known that by upgrading your windows 8 release preview to RTM will cause problems.. In fact that's been valid for quite some time even with older versions of Windows. It's always best to do a clean installation when going to RTM version Hope this helps.. If everything fails you can always boot to your laptop's recovery and follow instructions to go back to factory defaults thwn start all over again.. |
Re: Windows Reboot Loop
tried up, up, down. down, left, right, left, right, B, A ?
If not, remove windows 8 completely and go linux mint. |
