You'll need to follow the Win7 instructions/work-arounds most probably...

Have you tried the LiveCD/Virtual machine methods?

I can't say that their are many people here who are willing to use win8, so help might be a little thin on the ground :?

You need to dump the Win8 :D. How someone can even use it? Must?

Re: [Flashing] N900 on Windows 8

ok.. win8 has disabled the unsigned drivers.. do as i say,

From the Metro Start Screen, open Settings (move your mouse to the bottom-right-corner of the screen and wait for the pop-out bar to appear, then click the Gear icon).
Click ‘More PC Settings’.
Click ‘General’.
Scroll down, and click ‘Restart now’ under ‘Advanced startup’.
Wait a bit.
Click ‘Troubleshoot’.
Click ‘Advanced Options’
Click ‘Windows Startup Settings’
Click Restart.

Profit!

When your computer restarts, select ‘Disable driver signature enforcement‘ from the list. You can now load your modified driver. (PS:Reboot again once the driver is installed and all will be well. dont reboot until u finish flashing)

when it says "suitable usb not found waiting" use this... install N900 pc suite and update mode drivers.!! good luck :)

i forgot to mention one thing.. u ll c list of options like 1,2,3... and 10th one is driver disabled mode(i think!!).. for selecting options use function key(f1-f10).. and for driver disabled mode press f10(cross check) it will boot in that mode

it does work dude!! after installing flasher pres winkey+r(run window) type cmd and press enter.. make sure u had "COPIED THE FLASHER FOLDER IN C:\"

in cmd windows type
cd Flasher
cd flasher-3.5.exe
then rename your image to a(vanilla) and b as(custom)
flasher-3.5.exe -F a.bin -f
it will say"suitable device not found,waiting..."

use that libusb thing and install "PC SUITE MODE(N900)"

u ll c it flashing.. since i have not included -R N900 wont restart.. after flashing remove battery and reinsert it again.. make sure your phone is still in off state(sometimes it might turn on :P)

then type
flasher-3.5.exe -F b.bin -f -R

use libusb and install "N900 UPDATE MODE"

thats it!!

if it doesn't work well i cant help.. sorry.. i miss my buddy(N900).. so i cant try it out.. good luck :)

PS: i accept your point that the command shell doesn't open.. there is one cmd file missing which win8 removes by default ;)
PPS: try out all these steps in driver disabled mode!!!

i have updated my post do check it

Re: [Flashing] N900 on Windows 8

The reason behind flashing was: "unable to play video format not supported"

can you guys suggest be best video converter along with codec?

Sounds like a waste of time if that was your sole reason to reflash.

There are some extra codec packages that you could install, For the rest, I believe the best result for video playback on the n900 is achieved by "mplayer" for the command line.

It allows the best fine tuning and the most options of all the programs available.

Code:

sudo gainroot
apt-get update
apt-get install mplayer

/* Only installable, of course, when the repo's are back up, or you'd need to use one of the mirrors. */

Anyone know a working workaround to flash N900 in Windows 8.1 64-Bit? its not installing drivers and windows 7 64-Bit workaround is also not working.

Maybe you can contribute to 0xFFFF project... It has not yet Windows support.

I think he means the W7 workaround does not work on W8.1.
I would't know: I do have a W8.1 laptop but I just boot it from an Ubuntu CD for tasks like flashing.

yes. now it works. guide posted by visN900 on first page of this thread doesn't apply for Win 8.1. i'm also planning to install Kali Linux alongside Windows 8.1 but haven't done it yet.
