Quick reply...
Mirroring your link at ShareSend, just in case.
Maybe, I will install it, just to see what is so unusual about it. I generally don't use weather-displaying apps, since they require continuous access to Internet to remain up-to-date.
Best wishes. Thank you.

Installed and working, quite nice actually... how come this wasn't available earlier?

(In terminal: sudo dpkg -i accuweather_1_5_armel.deb)

so , this is a new release! newer than the N9 version. How can this be?!

That is pretty awesome

edit: Yes it has a widget

Re: N900 forgotten Accuweather ( a la Flash 10 )

Many thanks! Maybe, i again have a weather widget on the N900 that doesn't repeatably kill hildon-desktop, like OMWeather.

Funny: i just got to love eWeather HD on Android, because AccuWeather Platinum is sh7te (doesn't even support swiping through your subscribed locations).

I don't question the source of the weather app :) (btw I appreciate it, it is the best weather app on my Touchpad)
But when a binary is posted without any source code, you can never be sure whether there's only the app, or it's bundled with some kind of malware. That applies to all deb's, rpm's, ipk's or exe's posted on the internet.

And more I will tell that in Accuweather practically there are no options, including widget display options! :(
Has not liked, has removed Accuweather. :(

...OMWeather widget was, by multiple people, one of those found out to be responsible for the "hildon-desktop crashing, all widgets removed" issue.

OMWeather it is much better than Accuweather. At OMWeather many different options and widget are looked much better!
And that OMWeather did not call hildon-desktop crashing, you have to put your OMWeather widget on safelist.

You can find it here: /etc/hildon-desktop/home.safe-set
and your installed widgets here: /usr/share/applications/hildon-home/
Code:

/usr/share/applications/hildon-home/calendar-home-applet.desktop
/usr/share/applications/hildon-home/omweather-home.desktop
/usr/share/applications/hildon-home/google-search-widget.desktop
/usr/share/applications/hildon-home/homeosso_rss_feed_reader.desktop
/usr/share/applications/hildon-home/location-home-applet.desktop
/usr/share/applications/hildon-home/mediaplayerhomeapplet.desktop
/usr/share/applications/hildon-home/ovi-promotion-widget.desktop
/usr/share/applications/hildon-home/tutorial-home.desktop
/usr/share/applications/hildon-home/conversations-inbox-widget.desktop

By the way, in safelist is better to place all your installed widgets!!!

Sure. That is, if you want to increase the likelihood of getting a reboot loop.

Until the N900 has a reliable built-in recovery mechanism (or at least one you know how to use), I would stay away from touching anything with "safe" in its name. It's there for a reason, after all.

I am not going to to argue. But after I have placed all widgets in safelist by me problems with hildon-desktop crashing have disappeared. Now there are no problems with OMWeather. ;)

mr_pingu 2013-01-25 14:09

Re: N900 forgotten Accuweather ( a la Flash 10 )

The kind of rebootloop you are getting at is the one causing hildon-desktop to crash. In RnD mode disable watchdog and you are able to boot even With crashing hildon-desktop.

What is this list actually? To me these .desktop files are in /usr/share/applications/hildon-home because they Are recognized as widgets.
The normal .desktop resides in /usr/share/applications/hildon
These are the actual shortcuts found in the menu. I believe there isn't such a list as safe widgets, atleast not at the path you just said.

.desktop files are files that links the ui buttons to the real paths

Tiran 2013-01-25 14:18

Re: N900 forgotten Accuweather ( a la Flash 10 )

By default all preestablished widgets from Nokia are already registered in safelist. I only have added in safelist others widgets and at me problems with hildon-desktop crashing at once have disappeared. The theory without practice is dead, try.

mr_pingu 2013-01-25 14:31

Re: N900 forgotten Accuweather ( a la Flash 10 )

My bad, there is actually such a list:
in /etc/hildon-desktop

I thought you just posted contents of /usr/share/applications/hildon-home/

Re: N900 forgotten Accuweather ( a la Flash 10 )

So, now someone needs to leak Shazam and Bounce full version for N900 ;)

What you are saying here makes don_falcone right! If you don't put it in the safe list, OMWeather will crash your desktop.

@mr_pingu, I am sorry, in the message №24 I have not written a way and consequently have entered into error. Has corrected!

don_falcone 2013-01-25 14:47

Re: N900 forgotten Accuweather ( a la Flash 10 )

I'm confused. Why is there a safelist ("whitelist"?)? What's it's function?

dzano 2013-01-25 15:11

Re: N900 forgotten Accuweather ( a la Flash 10 )

Widgets from safelist are automaticaly loaded again after hildon-desktop crash.
So do not put there widgets that make phone to reboot!!

Re: N900 forgotten Accuweather

thanks for this leaked version of accuweather!

i like the app, but i deleted the widget as always requesting for connection.

app is smooth, forecast working, i like the index things but the radar map is stuck on january 23 and hourly forecast have wrong values for temperature

how to fix this? i guess is not recomended to write to support@accuweather.com and reference the AccuWeather.com Maemo Application like sugested in help menu

ps: what is the left bottom arrow for? it just shows an empty popup

Just wonderning, where did you find it? unreleased repo? :)

myname24 2013-01-29 13:52

Re: N900 forgotten Accuweather

yes it's in the unreleased ovi repo :) i'm wondering why it's not released and for what reason .

marmistrz 2013-01-29 14:12

Re: N900 forgotten Accuweather

I've just found out that the AccuWeather widget is obtrusive, so here's a way to prevent it from self-adding.

Code:

sudo gainroot
mv /usr/share/applications/hildon-home/awxapplet.desktop /usr/share/applications/hildon-home/awxapplet.bak

To have it back, just inverse the paths.

Maybe a unreleased extras compilation would be nice? We have live calendar icon, accuweather... what else is hiding in the repo? :)

myname24: u might want to link this to the first post

first post edited with a workaround for the widget

What do you mean by self adding?
