How was N900 trailer made?
The promotional 'video' which is packed into N900's memory by Nokia - it can be found on YouTube - how was it created? And is there similar video for N9? And for N950?
Just curious. Press 'Ctrl' and, holding it down, touch the screen with you finger; does anything happen? On N950, a blue circle is displayed wherever the screen is touched - and a second blue circle which is positioned with central symmetry to the first one. Best wishes. Questions, questions... [Edit]There might be video for N9, but it's not nearly as stunning - maybe, because they had shown several devices nearby each other; or it is lack of special effects...[/Edit] |
Re: How was N900 trailer made?
could you post any pics of those blue circle you are talking about

But it can also be noted that similar blue circles, to signify where invisible finger touched the screen, are present in N900 video. As if they made screenshots on N900, skewed them appropriately and inserted into the video - with this debugging-accessibility tool turned on. Oh, and how easy-difficult is it to make a screen-video - continuous string of screenshots? As in, on N900 screenshot-image is taken with Ctrl+Shift+P. Best wishes. Thank you. |
Re: How was N900 trailer made?
Those circles were later added on the video. You can also see that the "9" trailer , when switching from fullscreen to the task viewer, does not resize correctly. (You've got to see it frame-by-frame to notice it)
The video uses some frames, but some things look a bit different than the actual GUI. Also, they obviously did not show the real transitions and all that otherwise it would be choppy and show us the truth about the N900 |
Re: How was N900 trailer made?
in andoid you can enable show touches in developement setting . I wonder if there anything for N9/00 . I like that feature

I like that feature, too. I wonder if it is possible to customise it - size, colour, et cetera. It is said that it possibly to make screenshots on N950 with Ctrl+Shift+P, too - at least, of system interface, if not of third-party apps - but I wasn't successful, yet. Best wishes. Thank you. |
Re: How was N900 trailer made?
Wikiwide,
Download the app called ScreenshotMee; its a free app on the Nokia Store and once you have it running, you can cover your proximity sensor to take a screenshot. |
Re: How was N900 trailer made?
You can make a screencast with gstreamer-tools but it's really cpu and IO heavy to do it on device. I am still looking for a better way to make a screencast... anyone?

Re: How was N900 trailer made?
Wait... Why would the create screenshots and then string them together when it's relatively easy to add those circles later with some video editing?

1. film a movie of real, new, spotless device touched by real person (and cut out any fingers or hands so that they would not be seen, and add these circles manually later as a guide to show where the fingers touched the screen); 2. create a computer 3D-model of the device (maybe, based on high-quality photographs of the device in ideal condition), film a screencast at the device (with debugging-style circles-dots included), and mishmash the rotating 3D model with the screencast so that it would look like a video shot in a dustless space with invisible fingers touching the screen. The latter can be higher-quality because, unlike the former, it would not require cutting out the imperfections of real world. But the latter also requires attention and precision from the designer of the video. It also might make adding special effects easier. Of course, it is possible to add those circles with video editing. But it's time-consuming, boring, tiresome work - and it is so much easier if these circles are added automatically. Besides, having these circles turned on all the time could be a nice accessibility feature - to confirm that you have, indeed, touched the screen, clicked it, or double-clicked it. I had once opened about two dozens of MicroB browsers just because of impatiently clicking a link and not knowing whether the click registered or not. Best wishes. Thank you. |
Re: How was N900 trailer made?
I think it's neither of the two. My take is that the video was created entirely in a movie editing software using the assets from the N900 themes. You'll notice that the device doesn't respond as it does in real life (see notification animation or where the added contact widget appears on the desktop).

I have an N9, and suddenly I got these 2 blue circles and for every action I needed to make a double touch instead of a simple touch. (It happened while playing with x11vnc...) The whole ergonomics has changed. Even after a reboot, the 2 circles were still there. Thanks to your hint, I've found the solution: turn off the developer mode, then turn it back on. Peter |
