N900 Not Booting & Problems

Hello Everyone!

I installed the Mobile Hotspot Utility. Needless to say it didn't work on my iPod, although it connected it wouldn't let me check emails, browse the web, etc...

After running it for the first time the system became slow so I turned it off by pressing the power button. Now the phone won't go past the White Nokia screen when I turn it on (the white LED goes on for a couple seconds and then loads this screen) then turns off. Now I can't even charge it because it shows a dark screen with the Nokia logo when plugged into the wall socket and keeps vibrating every minute as if it's being connected again (no flashing orange LED as used to be).

I know I will probably have to reflash, although I haven't done a backup of my conversations, etc... in a while and know I will probably loose them. I use a 64 bit version of Windows 7 and heard about compatibility issues with the Flasher utility, is it better to use that or the Nokia Suite one?

The other issues I have been having with the phone before it died on me was: Sometimes the battery dies and when I change it and try to start it again, the LCD screen won't go on, so I have to remove the battery to kind of reset it, and then turn it on again. Has anyone else had this issue?

Anyway, what if the reflash doesn't work and is there any way to try to reset it without reflashing? I won't have internet access when I get home as I use the device to tether to my computer and the connection speed is quite fast 3.5G, etc... I really need this up and running as it's my "modem" at home....

Let me know as soon as someone can before I leave the office if possible.

Thank you!:o

Re: N900 Not Booting & Problems

the flasher is working under 64 bit enviroment . read the wiki instructions , but first try to flash only the kernel ,
if fails to boot do a complete reflash(vanilla + firmware)

Re: N900 Not Booting & Problems

Kindly reply someone...I'm trying to flash my N900 for the past 1 month...I followed everything as in maemo.wiki. first vanilla, then combined..combine first, then vanilla. vanilla in between and so..But vanilla is always struck at 20%.
I have 4 combined file images as follows

RX-51_2009SE_21.2011.38-1_PR_COMBINED_MR0_ARM -2011 update
RX-51_2009SE_20.2010.36-2_PR_COMBINED_MR0_ARM -global latest
RX-51_2009SE_20.2010.36-2.004_PR_COMBINED_004_ARM - India latest
RX-51_2009SE_3.2010.02-8_PR_COMBINED_MR0_ARM -global third

I have vanilla file images

RX-51_2009SE_1.2009.41-1.VANILLA_PR_EMMC_MR0_ARM -older
RX-51_2009SE_10.2010.13-2.VANILLA_PR_EMMC_MR0_ARM -latest

all combined images are flashing fully...but whenever i try to flash vanilla in whatever order or combination, it is struck at 20 % as shown below for example,

flashing with global

I tried infinite times with all combinations of all combined files/vanilla files...all the time it is struck at 20%. Phone's lock code 12345 is not working, phone is slow, some files are shown broken, etc are the problems I'm facing...kindly help me..
Is nokia care the last resort? they may charge near to Rs 1000 which I dont have now.

Have you tried a different image?? This sounds really odd, try to flash an older image to see if it gets stuck somewhere specific.
Also PLEASE try to attach your logs in a text file as opposed to just pasting them, otherwise everyone that quotes your comment and your comment end up filling pages of repeated unnecessary junk :)
EDIT: Also check that the file you downloaded is not corrupt.

I tried infinite times with all combinations of all combined files/vanilla files...all the time it is struck at 20%. Phone's lock code 12345 is not working, phone is slow, some files are shown broken, etc are the problems I'm facing...kindly help me..
Is nokia care the last resort? they may charge near to Rs 1000 which I dont have now.

why are you removing battery in between?
its not written anywhere in wiki that you nedd to remove battery after just flashing rootfs image.

C:\Program Files\maemo\flasher-3.5>flasher-3.5 -F RX-51_2009SE_20.2010.36-2_PR_C
OMBINED_MR0_ARM.bin -f

Also PLEASE try to attach your logs in a text file as opposed to just pasting them, otherwise everyone that quotes your comment and your comment end up filling pages of repeated unnecessary junk :)
EDIT: Also check that the file you downloaded is not corrupt.

i tried many images..but the problem is same...sorry for pasting full...please try to sort this out...

i tried both ways...no use...in wiki they say to remove battery if we doing vanilla flashing first...or if expert user begin next flashing in less than 10th of a second...
anyway i tried by removing and by continuing also..but all results in 20% vanilla stops.i tried with vanilla first, then combined, combined first, then vanilla,etc....please help..

Re: N900 Not Booting & Problems

You should try to charge your battery full before to start this process. Because even if connected through USB, it is not garanteed that it has enough power.

Also, there is something i don't understand, why do you say your computer is Win7 AMD64 if in your cmd console, it is written:

Microsoft Windows XP [Version 5.1.2600]
(C) Copyright 1985-2001 Microsoft Corp.

??

Also, are you sure about the zone firmware version you downloaded?
You should maybe try to download it again if it maybe is corrupted.

Another thing i would try, is to remove beloved N900 from device manager when it is connected, tick the "remove driver" options and restart installation process from scratch

2. Im sure about the firmware downloaded..I mentioned earlier which all images I got..most of them were downloaded twice to check if broken or not...

3. did not know such a method of removing from device manager...now the time is 5 pm..late to go 30km an dcome back..mine is Win 7..64 bit..dont know to flash here..can you help?

4. always the battery is full,ie green light.

leave the phone with battery out for 15 minutes and try again , if doesn't succeed the fix is another pc or another windows , the right procedure is : first vanilla(i recomend the 8 gb one ,i have no problems with that ,lots of aps, games and a lot of free space) after vanilla the firmware image

is this the answer? in maemo talk, someone says so...same file but some editing..is it?
"""It's illegal to post images of the eMMC or the rootfs, use a hex editor on the VANILLA image from tablets-dev.nokia.com and change 2048 to the multiple of 1024 you want. (5120 for 5GB, 8192 for 8GB, etc) """""

i really appreciate your helping mentality, but please have patience with me as Im a kid , where all you experts are playing... many may feel waste of time by helping me as Im dumb in N900,linux,etc...

:D:D difference between 8gb and 5gb?? are these images as of same linux or something to do with nitroid? sorry if my questions are idiotic...

Alecsandru 2013-02-07 12:37

Re: N900 Not Booting & Problems

by default you have the 32 gb partitioned to:
2 gb for use aplications(apps ,games , also the nitdroid games , apps use that partition , if you plan using the webos games and nitdroid you'll be running out of space fast ,2 gb isn't enought)
768 mb swap(virtual ram)
the rest is for music video and the oher files
lte 8gb one is like:
8 gb (apps ,games , also the nitdroid games/apps)
768 swap
rest for other files

always keep in mind im kid..:D..so spending a lot of time reading maemo...
so the 8 gb would help only if im using NITROID..is it?or would it make N900 better even on maemo base?
if yes, i read there is no call function..hence we cant use as phone...sucks na? so why NITROID?are the apps that impressive?

Re: N900 Not Booting & Problems

Excuse me, was out for lunch, here is the process to install N900 preperly under win7 64bits:

How to get N900 flasher to work in Windows 7 64-bit (x64).
Install Flasher 3.5 - http://tablets-dev.nokia.com/maemo-d...-downloads.php
Download libusb-win32-bin-1.2.2.0.zip - http://sourceforge.net/projects/libusb-win32/
Press U while attaching N900 to USB
Wait for the original driver to install.
Run inf-wizard.exe (bin folder in zip) - Run as Administrator
Press "Next"
Search in list and select "0x0421 - 0x0105 - Nokia N900 (Update Mode)"
Press "Next"
Press "Next"
Save .inf file
Press "Install Now"
Press "Install this driver software anyway" on warning message.
You should get "Installation successful." and press OK.
Check Windows Device Manager for "libusb-win32 devices", expand and verify "Nokia N900 (Update Mode)" can be found.
Now you are ready to run Flasher 3.5 with your parameters.

And please people, please do not redirect other users to technical things, resizes partitions could be good yes, but not necessary for everybody, He can do it himself (and then learn a lot) when and if it is needed.

Re: N900 Not Booting & Problems

this will not improve N900 performance, it is that you will be able to install more softwares.

So instead of being able to install up to 2GB of soft, you can install 8GB. But your MyDocs folder will decrease its size accordingly.

But the thing is that i think that focusing your trouble should be 1st priority, once you can flash your phone properly, then you can start to search for other tweak to apply ;)
