What is MER, NEMO and what is the relation with Meego?
 

I'm very confused with this..
What is MER, NEMO and what is the relation with Meego and or Sailfish? Mer and Nemo are another different OSes?

Of what i know sailfish and nemo are derived from mer.

To put it shortly:

* There was Meego (a joined project by Intel and Nokia) which merged Moblin and Maemo projects. It included several subcategories targeted for different form factors (Meego tablet, Meego handset and etc.).

* Nokia deserted the project after MS paid them a couple of billions. Intel deserted shortly afterwards.

* Several Meego developers forked the project in order to preserve the accumulated effort and to continue it further. The fork was only of the part of the original project, not of the whole since Meego was quite big and had parts which started getting obsolete (like netbook). This fork consisted of two parts - Mer (MEego Relaunched) which included most core aspects of Meego, and Nemo, which forked the Meego handset (that previous effort was called Meego CE). Nemo uses Mer as a core architecturally. Mer positions itself as a distribution for vendors who create their mobile oriented OSes (and beyond).

* Sailfish was designed by engineers who left Nokia (after Nokia desertion) and created Jolla company, as well as others who joined this effort. Sailfish uses Mer as a core as well, and also uses various Nemo middleware components.

I.e. Sailfish and Nemo are "vendors" of Mer. Mer is a fork of the part of original Meego project. (Also don't confuse Meego with Harmattan which was developed by Nokia, and branded as Meego while not being Meego strictly speaking).

ok, i understand for ex: mer would be meego and sailfish harmattan..?

No. Sailfish is not Harmattan. It can be inspired by Harmattan ideas, but it bears no code inheritance from it.

Nemo is purely open, community developed mobile handset OS based on Mer.

sure, harmattan is nokia, i mean that as harmattan was for nokia sailfish is for jolla

Actually not. Jolla doesn't want to make Sailfish exclusive - they invite others to participate in its development and plan to make it as open as possible as far as I understand.

That is the UI components that can be used by apps to be in line with the Sailfish look&feel.

Mer does not read MEego Relaunched... it is much older than MeeGo or Harmattan but was revived about that time.

It does read MEego Relaunched (or MEego Reconstructed). Orignally though the project was MaEmo Relaunched, but eventually started to mean MEego Relaunched, after the work switched to Meego code. See the announcement of Stskeeps about it:

Is the NEMO project still alive or rather dead since there is now Sailfish? I always loved to see the progress videos but recently haven't seen or heard anything any longer

That's a cool timeline. The only things missing that I want to see are Android OS, and Firefox OS. The other ones (iOS, Windows Phone, RIM) can be added too for further comparison.

You might need to add Intel's Obsidian into Tizen diagram soon. It's... unusual interface.

hmmm, but according to this maemo5 code was used in MeeGo and in the same time no part of MeeGo Harmattan code is used in the joint MeeGo project.

This sounds right, since Maemo 5 was joined with Mobiln to become Meego, while Maemo 6 became Harmattan, which was not used in the Meego project.
