[PLEASE JOIN] Petition for bug fixing for N9

Hey guys, I decided to start another petition for the N9 to get a bug-fixing from Nokia. Here is a small concept of what I would write:
Quote:

Dear Nokia,
we belong to a strange kind of people, the customers who bought a Nokia N9. This is a very unlucky smartphone: few updates, few apps and tiny support. But there is a great community beside it, people that decided to buy it anyway despite its destiny was already known because it IS a great and a simply innovative smartphone. Anyway, it has still a few issues: the battery level suddenly drops to 4% when battery is stressed or randomly changes after reboot, sms bugs, the calendar view or the missing copy/paste in mail... Lots of issues were already reported to the bug tracker. Now, these are simple but annoying bugs and what we request is a bug fixing, which we think is due also because support was promised until 2015. Everyone here is aware of the decision to focus on Windows Phone but please Nokia, don't forget about us and above all don't forget that we are largely loyal customers that believed in you also in the darkest days of your history. Making us happy giving us finally a fully reliable product is not a big effort for you.
Regards,

your "still many" N9 owners

For example, some bugs are:
- battery drop http://harmattan-bugs.nokia.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1144
- sms bug http://harmattan-bugs.nokia.com/show_bug.cgi?id=113
- folders in imap mail http://harmattan-bugs.nokia.com/show_bug.cgi?id=455
- calendar issues (3rd panel doesn't show an event more than 39 days ahead)
EDIT:

The petition is now online, please subscribe also if you think it's a waste of time! :p

Good plan and although I hope it'll reach the right person, I doubt it will work. Good luck, still! You have my support.

By the way, we're customers, not costumers ;-)

Yes, great idea! It would be great if Nokia could fix not only the annoying battery-drop, but also the facebook app, ovistore crashes, Swype-smoothness etc. And finaly updates for City Lens, Public Transport and City Scene!

Lucazz990 2013-02-27 13:20

At least for the store!! Does anyone have problem with Mail for Exchange? I don't use it but i heard there were some issues...

Re: [PETITION TO NOKIA] Bug fixing for N9

All of the above plus...

The CALENDAR!

There is a bug that keeps the Calendar from synching properly so that I kept missing appointments.

I still carry my N9 _just in case_ alongside a OS crippled Lumia 900 - beautiful in form, sad in OS. ;)

Lucazz990 2013-02-27 16:17

So the main problems are: battery drop, calendar, sms and stock apps! Anything more to add?

100% waste of time.. Sorry, but sadly it's true. They want to close "Nokia" and we can do anything to stop it.. Soon the M$ make their phone and leave that little piece of Nokia die silently.. They got what they want $$ and thats it..

NokiaFanatic 2013-02-27 18:22

Re: [PETITION TO NOKIA] Bug fixing for N9

You're wasting your time. Even in the few markets where the N9 was released, it has been pulled from just about all of them (still available in the United Arab Emirates). Considering the phone is now a year and a half old, it would be a waste of time for Nokia to divert anymore resources to it.

Lucazz990 2013-02-27 18:34

I know it's quite impossible to get anything, but it doesn't cost anything to give it a try... :) in the worst case I'll waste the time to write the petition, no drama at all...

Re: [PETITION TO NOKIA] Bug fixing for N9

The WLAN password stored in clear text in gconf is definitely something that needs fixing.
Also, the facebook application drains both battery AND CPU.
If they could do something for the battery drainage in general it would be awesome
Oh, and, well, 4G :D <-- Edit : this is obviously a joke.

Re: [PETITION TO NOKIA] Bug fixing for N9

There is lot of issues on the N9 phone to update like twitter API changes, facebook, ovistore crashes, browser bookmarks and render issues, vimeo videos and youtube, Wi-Fi refresh and "n" issue, camera night yellowness theme and sharpness, jpg files compression...but i think that nokia will not update this phone, they just keep us hopping to not move to other OS till they are up with some idea or tech, they would rather want us to bay winmo set, then fixing our n9 phone problems which we deserve to have one other new update.

Re: [PETITION TO NOKIA] Bug fixing for N9

tracker bug and captured images when sent to other phones or wazapp or something else its tilted to right side
worst bug :(

Hacker 2013-02-28 05:06

Call me crazy, but raising the public profile of Nokia's update/bugfix behavior may just work wonders. Nokia is desperately trying to get away from its reputation of not supporting devices, so our timing may be right. Heck, if they can pay the 3rd party guys to give us enough to shut us up, that would be a big win for all parties.

(possible) Headline: "Nokia is changing the way we commit to our customers; as an example, we've decided to update the highly praised Nokia N9."

Re: [PETITION TO NOKIA] Bug fixing for N9

You should add to last, if you do not meet our requirements you will be sued by not supporting their customers and I assure you that you will have an answer.

Re: [PETITION TO NOKIA] Bug fixing for N9

This is something I do not understand - why does Nokia not work more closely with the community for fixing these issues?
The community has the muscle power to do the job;
Nokia has the knowledge of the device, and the testing.

Together they could update this great phone to something better,
PLUS it would not cost Nokia more than the QA to be run..

because nokia wants at all costs that we move to WP That will never happen, I would never buy a junk lumia

bibek 2013-02-28 07:43

Some OEMs would die to have a community like this, and here we have Nokia.

Ex : Blackberry spending 2Millions in each portAThon to gain some traction with developers

There are no more employees at Nokia working on that topic.
I feel sorry to shade this illusion but if there will be no CSSU for N9s there wont come any major upgrades! Find a developer from the community to put some light on these issues.

EDIT: maybe we'll see some working jollaOS some day...

Hi all,

And what about the functionality to cut/copy/paste from the email application ??? !!!

I hope they k****d the developer omitting this functionality, that render the client completely useless ...

This feature was implemented (at least to some point, source is konttori) but either did not make it into PR1.3 or just got dropped....

I know nokia is no longer working on meego but finding someone (maybe external?) who can fix these small things shouldn't be a big problem for them... The only limit is the will to do something for us :) and that's a big limit indeed...

Re: [PETITION TO NOKIA] Bug fixing for N9

i don't have these two bugs...
sms always ok, battery drain fast but not sudenly.

we can't synchonize group in contact, calendar reminder alarm two days before we forgot it, twitter app that just suck because of cache. Rss feed updating in loop, 3g get stuck in blue with no connection.
I will not list everything, but i will not tell my friend to buy a N9, even if it's cheap. We have a beta phone, nokia don't care about us, but we knew that !
My only hope is a cssu, but who gonna do that ?

ok, do you know if this was also reported in the bug tracker so we can add something "official"? :)

Re: [PETITION TO NOKIA] Bug fixing for N9

I doubt that is a bug. I think it's rather intentional behaviour to show you only what coming up over a limited period of time because if your really have a *lot* of entries the amount of scrolling needed will make that view pointless (notice that apparent intentional lack of transparent scrolling directory on the right screen-side). It might also be a performance issue. It's way faster to look up any dates via monthly calendar view. Howeber the current behaviour would have my vote for enhancements like settable period of time, etc.

I've searched in bug tracker but found nothing. The bug appeared after when bug tracker was closed (after PR 1.3). Nokia Care flashed my device before they changed the screen. The calender app has this bug after I've restored the backup from Nokia Suite. Flashing again didn't solve.

We who? Are you writting a open letter to Nokia in the name of all the Community? We used to have a Community Council for stuff like that, related to communication with Nokia and so. So please don't talk in the name of all the Community / N9 owners. It's not my thoughts, and I don't feel represented.

PD: Again, don't sign the letter like that, "stubborn" N9 owner.

The intent is to make a petition on change, org, so "we" is everyone who subscribes to this. I talked about the community just to remember who reads that there are lots of active users and developers who still work on the N9, so it's not intended to be an official letter from the community. Please notice that I didn't start any petition yet, I just posted a concept here to be discussed and of course corrected and integrated.
