This would absolutely fantastic

Re: [Work In Progress] Rockwatch - Pebble smart watch support for the N9
That's pretty cool. But I wonder how music was easier to do than any comms items. Goes to show how much of the internal I've missed reading up on.
If comms can be done, rss and even pushing actions to the N9 like confirming NFC resists could be done from there. Neat |
Re: [Work In Progress] Rockwatch - Pebble smart watch support for the N9
I just checked the prices of those watches, damn they are expensive....!
I hope someone can get LiveView (the SonyEricsson Watch) to harmattan, which is much cheaper... Some user is trying to get it to work, he needs some help though http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=65893&page=3 |
Re: [Work In Progress] Rockwatch - Pebble smart watch support for the N9
I honestly almost bought a LiveView.
I'm glad I didn't. It's not really a "Smart" watch. You push images to the phone and backwards. I took all day today and snooped around Pebble SDK, videos, forums and rest and it is a much better concept. True, at this phase of production it is a bit expensive, but I expect the price to drop a little and SDK and API to become stable. I am very interested how this will work with N9. For example, will 3rd party apps be able to adapt Harmattan apps to support Pebble, etc. I know it is too early to ask for a release, but please, keep them videos coming, even if it's just showing a bug. :P |
Re: [Work In Progress] Rockwatch - Pebble smart watch support for the N9
I've now added support for installing apps to the watch from an N9:

This is epic! I want that watch now and I will buy it when you release the first public preview. :)
|
Would you recommend making a preorder or buying one from Ebay?
Just asking, my responsibility 100%. |

All of the plain black ones for Kickstarter backers have already shipped now, but the coloured ones haven't started shipping yet. I don't know if this means that black pre-orders will start shipping soon or if that won't happen until after the coloured Kickstarter ones have also shipped. So an official order might get filled soon if it's black, or it might still be a long wait. Which I realise isn't terribly helpful ;). |
Re: [Work In Progress] Rockwatch - Pebble smart watch support for the N9
While you were typing I made a Jet Black preorder. :) Page said April-May 2013 shipped out, which is fine by me. I guess your release will be mature by then judging by the speed so far. :D
Once it gets here, count me in for any testing, developing or marketing needed. :) |

Btw, notifications sink, are you hooking up on that?
So that 3rf party apps like Wazapp or Nelisquare can also push notifications to Pebble? And what language are you using? Qt, Python... :) |

We'll see about demand. ;)
Python is cool. :) You got my pesos so don't worry. And I'll try to contact Pebble themselves once it works. Eye of Sauron is upon thee! :D |
Re: [Work In Progress] Rockwatch - Pebble smart watch support for the N9
I see the manufacturers of the Pebble watch are still lying to their customers, marketing the display as "E-Paper" when it uses an LCD display.
Does this Rockwatch project build upon javispedro's work on the SmartOpenWatch framework? If not, is there any chance you can adapt this to make it compatible so we can have a common app platform for both the Pebble and MetaWatch? |

@Elleo: Did you also get lightblue running? SoWatch integration would be great too (if possible). |
Re: [Work In Progress] Rockwatch - Pebble smart watch support for the N9
Yep, it's using libpebble and I've got lightblue support working. So far I've only been focusing on Pebble support (that's all I have to test with), but I'll try and design things in such a way as to make it easy for people to contribute backends for other watches.

Any news?
Mine is still in queue. |

I did a preorder of a Jet Black on 09/05/12, and I am still - and patiently - waiting. I don't think we will receive the watch earlier than the end of June (and that's a pitty, because would be a great birthday gift for myself), I did a fuzzy watch app for pt-BR already, and can't wait to test/use it on my wrist. @Elleo: You can count on me in anything (testing, developing, contributing, translating, etc) - I am very interested in this app. I am not expert in python, but if you release the code, that would be a good excuse for me to start learning python for real. :) Also, have you consider to create a PayPal account so people can contribute to your work? Maybe you can get more help ($$) than Ovi Store (I do think, however, you should publish there and charge a small fee). |
Re: [Work In Progress] Rockwatch - Pebble smart watch support for the N9
Found a bit more time to do some more hacking on it and started adding basic support for upgrading the watch's firmware:

Expect a donation from me on 25th. Also, it will repeat once I strap my Pebble on my left wrist for the first time.
It will repeat again, when it has 100% functionality, with or without bugs. :) I appriciate support for N9 and great software that users can utilise every single day. ;) |
Seems that Pebble is almost done with Kickstarter edition. By this week they should all be out in all colors.
It means preorders have started to ship out too. My number is 115000ish. With the pace of 10000 per week, I'll get mine in 3 months. :( Anyways, anything new? :) |

Is this going to be open source? If so, can you drop it on GitHub, so that others can contribute and get the ball rolling faster?

Hope Rockwatch works any time this year, I have pre ordered my pebble =) |
No, I didn't get it yet.
I got an email saying it will happen during summer months. So end of August I guess... |
Re: [Work In Progress] Rockwatch - Pebble smart watch support for the N9
Received my Pebble today and currently have it paired with my Nook Color, but I'm really hoping for this rockwatch code to make it's way to github/gitorious/"the public" to really start playing with it :)
|
Re: [Work In Progress] Rockwatch - Pebble smart watch support for the N9
OT - Just got mine! It's amazing! Later tonight I'll compile a pt-BR fuzzy time watchface I made. Also, I got a Kickstarter Edition, however I got it thru getpebble.com. Strange, but yay! :)
I am waiting for the source code release/alpha version so I can start playing with it. |
@cael_gomes
What was your preorder number? Interested to see where they are at the moment... |
Re: [Work In Progress] Rockwatch - Pebble smart watch support for the N9
87244
Placed in Sept |
Re: [Work In Progress] Rockwatch - Pebble smart watch support for the N9
Black pebble available at best buy in the USA this weekend I believe. I went Metawatch as it was available and works with sowatch. Now if only I could code watchlets for it...
|
@cael_gomes
Weird. I am 115594 and placed an order for a black one in April, 3 months ago. 30 000 units more... Bestbuy is sold out. Quick and easy money I guess. Metawatch is not my choice sorry. |

Remember that 85k was sold via Kickstarter So I was #2244 in getpebble list. :) I think 30k units in ~ 7 months is pretty acceptable. What is weird is that I got a Kickstarter edition watch. hahaha |
Re: [Work In Progress] Rockwatch - Pebble smart watch support for the N9
Do the N9 & N900 allow concurrent bluetooth connections?
If you're connected to the Pebble, can you still listen to music from the phone via bluetooth headphones? |
Good question as I'm using BlackBerry Music Gateway in my car. I'd like them to be both connected.
Can someone test this? |
