Recommendation for Nokia N9 wired earpiece
Hello,
my stock Nokia N9 wired earpiece is about to die, and I am looking into a replacement. Ideally, I would love a wired earpiece that is suitable for running but for normal urban life, i.e. something that allows to calls with answer button. Do you have any recommendation? Thanks a lot! ;) Paolo |
Re: Recommendation for Nokia N9 wired earpiece
I don't have a specific recommendation but I can advise you to stay away from the ones Nokia makes. I've changed 3 the last 1 year and a half all horrible. I found peace with a bluetooth one

Re: Recommendation for Nokia N9 wired earpiece
I think that there are many good earpieces, but how many allow pickup/end call and play/pause music on the N9 is a different game... Could you share the brand of your bluetooth earpiece? Can it control calls & music player?

Re: Recommendation for Nokia N9 wired earpiece
Not a wired suggestion, but you should try out the sony MW600 bluetooth stereo headset,
pros: >It works with the N9, the media controls and call answer/reject works. >Audio quality and range is good. >Supports 3 devices. >Has inbuilt FM. >Is not as expensive(at about $50) >If you have a black N9 then the Black Mw600 looks surprisingly similar to the N9, it also comes in white. Cons: >It only shows numbers, and doesn't show contact names. >As with any bluetooth device, it needs to be charged, but the battery will last longer on a charge than your phone battery. >It has a stereo jack so you can plug in your own headset to it, the bluetooth has its own mic. >The volume control is touch sensitive(and its sensitive), if its in contact with your skin anywhere your volume keeps rockin :D >The batteries will eventually wear out and you'll have to replace the device. I believe there's no user replacable batteries. http://images.www.dailymobile.net/wp...sson-MW600.jpg |
I have a wired remote that goes between headphones and my n9 that has lots of controls and a mic.

Re: Recommendation for Nokia N9 wired earpiece
@danested: thanks for the suggestion, it looks quite good and fitting for the N9. How does the earpiece feels when doing physical activity? From the pictures it looks like it could slip out your ear fairly easily.

Re: Recommendation for Nokia N9 wired earpiece
I'm using a Nokia WH-205. The one that came with my good old N900 recently died, so I got a replacement one for €7,50 or so, very cheap and works ok.

Try the Nokia WH-701.
This earphones are included at my n9 and work very well (microphone, music control buttons and call buttons are included). On ebay this earphones costs about 7€-14€. |
Re: Recommendation for Nokia N9 wired earpiece
Paolo, they fit in well enough, I havent had problems with them falling off as they fit well.
However, since it has a standard 3.5mm audio jack, you can fit any other stamdard headphones to them that you like. BTW for clarity's sake, I'd like to mention that the actual bluetooth part of the MW600 with the controls is something you have to clip on to your clothes, like the BH-111, which is another thing you can look at. Its been a long time since I gymmed I'm hoping to rejoin this week, I can tell you more about how well it fits during activities then. |
Re: Recommendation for Nokia N9 wired earpiece
+1 for the MW600. It's the bluetooth piece I mention in post #2

Re: Recommendation for Nokia N9 wired earpiece
Any stereo headset will work, however be careful if you want to have Mic or control buttons, most 3rd party ones target Iphone where the writing of gnd and Mic are reversed.

Re: Recommendation for Nokia N9 wired earpiece
Thats one good thing about Bluetooth, its compatible with all the phones, for wired headsets, you can buy a connector that fixes the issue of non compatibility with nokia phones.

Re: Recommendation for Nokia N9 wired earpiece
Any opinions on the Nokia BH-214 and BH-221?

Re: Recommendation for Nokia N9 wired earpiece
I use an old Nokia AD-54 that came with my Nokia 5800: https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=NOKIA+AD-54&tbs=li:1
It's survived this long, controls calls and music, and lets me plug my own earphones in. And you can get it for next to nothing on ebay. |

Re: Recommendation for Nokia N9 wired earpiece
Guys, thanks a lot for the bunch of recommendations and opinions - I have a lot of material to go through, and after seeing some of your proposals I am even reconsidering my requirement of the earpiece to be wired.
Some of my first findings are related to the WH-205 and WH-701, which seem to have a good reputation when it comes to sound quality, but at least most of the reviews complain about extreme fragility, which makes me think they may not be suitable for running or sports in general. The AD-54 is a very cool little thing. The few reviews (Amazon) I have read praise it extensively and it is inexpensive enough to give it a go. Next I'll dig into the bluetooth suggestions. The bluetooth has the plus of not having problem with the custom Nokia pin setup - also some of the models you guys have brought up look really nice. |
Re: Recommendation for Nokia N9 wired earpiece
If you're still shopping around, I highly recommend the BH505 headset. It pairs with the N9 through NFC, and the bass reproduction is really quite good for a wrap-around in-ear headset.

Re: Recommendation for Nokia N9 wired earpiece
Yes, that came out from my research, but apparently despite being advertised as "water and sweat resistent", they seem to break almost immediately after contact with the two above:
http://discussions.nokia.com/t5/Acce...em/td-p/711437 Definitely a no-no for me, as I need a headset to use also while running. I have been also looking into Jabra's products. The Jabra sport wired and Jabra sport bluetooth are compatible with N9 (the wired version comes with an adapter to fix the inverted pin issue) - pity they are not for people with glasses like me. The Jabra active (the black version) instead seems to be perfect, but I want to check a few reviews before purchase. |

Where I live they sell both types, which look identical but can be differentiated by the packaging. I also use mine when I'm on the treadmill or out walking to work when it's been drizzling, and I've had no problems in the five months I've had it. |
Re: Recommendation for Nokia N9 wired earpiece
Hmm, this is interesting. Some of the reports from the thread that I linked above are from 2012 and 2013... It could be that those guys got some of the older batch, but it is difficult to say. I could have a trip to the local nokia store and see what is they say about the product.
BTW, which one is the old package between this two? http://galerie.nokiamania.cz/galerie..._bh_505_01.jpg http://images03.olx.in/ui/20/50/47/1...kia-BH-505.jpg |
Re: Recommendation for Nokia N9 wired earpiece
I'm also looking for an earphone solution for me whilst out jogging. If it's any use to you, after reading a few reviews I've ordered a pair of Koss KSC75 on ear headphones.
I'm leaning towards using the Sony MW600, but need to read a few more reviews first. |

Re: Recommendation for Nokia N9 wired earpiece
Guys, just an update for those who are interested :) I had settled on the Jabra Active, which I received today. I played a bit with them, and I am positively surprised about this product.
The Jabra Active is designed for Apple devices, so it needs an adapter to work with Nokias - luckily, that is included and looks quite sturdy. As a matter of fact, it blends quite well with the rest of the wire and you don't really notice that it is there in the first place. With the adapter, everything works like a charm. You can stop and pause music with no problems, and pick up calls / hang down when needed. The mic is well located and I could both hear well and be heard well. As a small bonus, this earpiece has an additional volume slider that can be used to, well, increase and decrease the volume ;) I'll try them next time I go running and let you know how they behave during physical activity. |
