Return to MeeGo (May 2013)

I'm back.

I miss MeeGo.

W8 / L920 is good combo. Great camera, screen, hardware.. BUT I miss the little things.

Perfect device for me would be Meego/Sailfish device similar size to L920 with wireless charging, 32GB storage, other specs no idea but faster than N9 obviously.........

I dream on, but will be going back to an N9.

On another note, I have a Lumia 920 for sale/swap XD

Yes, it's hard to move from N9 to other devices, especially the poor ui wp8.

Part of the disapora...... the left their own community to disperse out to other platforms' communities and become full time trolls.

Guerrilla Marketing at it's finest

Re: Return to MeeGo (May 2013)

I was thinking about something like that too... Sadly my N900 broke half a year ago, since then i am hustling around with a TyTN II (damn).

Now I am thinking about getting an N9, because I actually need a new contract and i found an offer with a N9 which is very cheap for me.

There is just one thing. I read in the "roof on fire" thread, and I really cant clarify the situation here, since I havent even used my N900 for months. All repositorys are down? Is there a realsitic chance, that repositorys will stay open for some time? Because who wants a N9 when all the infrastructure is gone. What you think?

ttt0600 2013-05-31 02:52

Welcom back. I wish to see all of you coming back to the N9 :)

Repositories aren't down.. The MeeGo OBS however is going down..

No idea, but it will be to an Australian as it has Product Care which is a form of extended warranty.

Need a new phone first. Got no problems going back to N9, but veeeeeeeeeeerrrryy interested in Jolla/Sailfish.

then do the "early register" thingy on Jolla.com (Join)
the device won't be available before 4th quarter, so you'll have to survive w/ your Lumia some more

but it's certainly worthwhile as the Jolla device will come with µSD (rather then grabbing a N9, even with 64GB of storage)
and there is the other half... ;)

The N9 is still supported by Nokia, so it should be OK (for now). When the time comes, I guess the N9 stuff will be maintained by the community (like with the N900 now).

if Jolla makes it to the market successfully, I doubt it will be maintained.

Re: Return to MeeGo (May 2013)

Well I am back on my N9 while my HTC One is in for DOA claim (infamous gap issue).

Honestly, I don't miss much of the swiping action as much as I thought I would, it's handy but I can get used to double tab capacitive button to switch between task. But one thing I miss about MeeGo Harmattan is the UI consistency, I find easier to remember to navigate through different levels on Harmattan. Android is absolutely nuts, some buttons on top, others below, absolute mess and GOD the double tap to wake the freakin' screen!! I tried everything on HTC One (w/o custom kernel), nothing worked as close. And stupid Ads, it's everywhere!!

Re: Return to MeeGo (May 2013)

haha my gf's HTC One had the same issue...

...why not, even older symbian phones also still have their "nokia store" environment. While i just threw my lumia into the corner, and "reactivated the best phone i ever had"-N9 ..my wife still happily uses her N8-symbian belle device and the store with mostly QT
apps.

I am back too... the wp8 experiment was not convincing.
My n9 is unbeatable.. perhaps until jolla.
..
i feel now bad for ever going astray.

well there is, but its garbage, have one complaint and you get a warning, and when apps that you are asking about availability dont exist they tell you that you dont need it or to use another one, then if you talk about another OS's strength (In a thread about WP8 weaknesses) you get banned

Re: Return to MeeGo (May 2013)

Lumia 920 / WP8:

good points:
- great looking and quality hardware
- camera
- screen size and quality, apart from not being able to do LPM
- wireless charging

bad points:
- terrible system sounds that also cant be changed
- no profiles (I especially miss timed profiles)
- bad navigation between apps/tasks, including the poor "back" button!
- adding to above point, theres no quick way to close an app
- screen has to be off before putting in pocket or Windows button gets pressed, activating Speech Command, making phone speak etc.
- only a few apps, mostly garbage or multiples

Things I really miss from the N9:

- low power mode display
- swype keyboard
- swiping
- true multitasking
- customisation
- flashing freely/openess

Im sorry Nokia, but YOU HAVE FAILED, AGAIN. This may be the end.

Edit: notice how its all software problems? The 920 with Meego on it would be my dream device almost.

For the first time in a long time, I put my N900 on the bench and using an N9 instead. Mostly because I want to preserve the N900 for as long as possible since I don't have a second N900 like most on TMO it seems.
