[Announce] Layar for N9/N950
 

As the title says, here you go guys:

Download Layar

Download the file, and extract the contents to the root of your phone (the zipped files are already in the correct directories)

then go to terminal and do the following:
Then you can run it by just using the icon on the homescreen

I haven't tried it out yet properly, so don't complain anything.
Couple screenshots are attached here.

Can I ask you from where did you get it ? Because on layar.com there is nothing mentioning N9/Meego .

"waiting for location..." , but gps-icon doesn't show on statusbar.
And it does not realize that I have already verified my account.

You can use fixed location in the layar settings menu.
Just google your city name + longitute latitude

One does not simply ask where it came from. :)
Will look into packaging this afternoon.

hahaha :p i love these type of threads ( unreleased stuff ) :P

EDIT : now I did remember where i saw Layar icon . It was in /usr/share/themes/blanco/meegotouch/icons . So you had a N9/50 running old firmware with layar :) the ( only ? Based on the icons there ) thing left unreleased is shazam though it doesn't matter now because of soundwave .

There is a better application icon already present in /usr/share/themes/blanco/meegotouch/icons if I remember correctly, which you may want to package.

On that note, does anyone know whatever happened to other planned apps like gigfinder and shazam (icons also present)?

I suspect a missing Aegis manifest might be the problem.
Still packaging and editing it...
I can install it normally now, but not uninstall. :mad:

Did I ever mention I hate manual packaging?:(

Shazam IIRC is broken on Harmattan (and on the Beta firmware).

Soundwave is better anyway, Midomi music DB is far superior to Shazam.

OK, here is the deal.
I managed to package this and sort it out a little.
2 main problems I see with this but need help:
1. - Aegis manifest needs to be added for Location APIs and GPS lock will work then.
2. - in control file XB-Maemo-Icon-26 parameter is ignored while packaging.

I might have messed up on Optification a little but nothing critical. Hard to do symlinks "blind".

I'd appriciate if someone would step in and finish this off properly once and for good.

App sometimes crashes and I can't get anything on the camera besides a green overlay. I think that's Aegis again and camera access token.

Hehe, nice to see you guys trying to revive it. At Layar we indeed aimed to have a port for Meego (as well as for Symbian & Bada, that codebase was shared as much as possible). I was the team lead for the project.

At some point we decided to stop with it so it never got published.

The version you've found is supposed to be version 4 of Layar client. That's rather old (we're now almost at v.8) and some features are deprecated since then already. Also, Layar now is much more focused on vision stuff rather than on geo-based.

We were using some very early versions of meego sdks and early device prototypes to develop it, so I'm not surprised it doesn't work out of the box on current ones.

Well, sorry, not sure about that. That source code is not open and I don't think it's ever becoming open at all (and I'm not the decision maker).

The company's standpoint is clear about it, we need to spend our limited resources wisely, so we cannot afford developing/marketing/supporting anything for meego at the moment. That was one of the reasons to stop with the meego port and the situation didn't change for better since then unfortunately.
