[solved] Problems with Modest and Gmail
Hi,
I was using modest for quite a long time. From time to time I had problems opening e-mails, but re-adding the account did the trick. But now the problems are counter-attacking... :) When I try to open any e-mail received lately I get errors like: "Message (title) not available on the server" Re-adding the account doesn't fix anything. What may be going on? Thanks. EDIT: Now the solution is available CSSU users: Just update the CSSU Nokia SSU users: http://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?p...7&postcount=13 or use CSSU EDIT2: the fix is now in cssu stable. |
Re: Problems with Modest and Gmail
works for me.
can any other mail client open your gmail correctly? there are other mail clients available for fremantle which could be used to compare. does any connection type also do this? |
Re: Problems with Modest and Gmail
Which one of the counterparts would have a wizard to quickly set up the gmail account?
|
Re: Problems with Modest and Gmail
@woody according to your post you should help people or clear out the mess from the mail client:)

Re: Problems with Modest and Gmail

Re: Problems with Modest and Gmail
Same problem here. Worked find for 3.5 years, but started to fail with the "unable to find message" on Friday June 7th. GMail via Nokia messaging works. No change to modest or any installed software, I suspect it is something to do with a gmail change.
|
Re: Problems with Modest and Gmail
If it's a GMail change, it hasn't propagated to me yet; Modest on my N900 is working fine handling my GMail account today. (I'm using the vanilla SSU Modest.)

Re: Problems with Modest and Gmail
I have this problem about 3 months ago. I have a CSSU 21.2011.38-1Tmaemo7.2 + kernel thumb1 and 51r. I think the problem is only in the Gmail account in my Nokia Messaging. In my Yahoo and Hotmail account I have no problem.
When I tried the reflash and using kernel stock , the same situation. Actually, when someone sends me an email (Gmail), I read it just fine, but if forwarding it, may never come to the sender. |
Re: Problems with Modest and Gmail
Thankfully, Nokia Messaging is working fine for me sync'ing with my GMail account so I won't have to ditch my N900 because I can't read incoming gmail.com emails. Still would like to get to the root of it and back to the direct imap gmail access.
|
Re: Problems with Modest and Gmail
It seems this has hit me, too!
I get the same error message since Saturday after reenabling my account due to lock (too many foreign access tries). At first I was not afraid as I have this same behaviour sometimes with other imap accounts, but it always settled itself with hours (a few logins). But now it seems modest with manual setup of gmail (NOT using Nokia) keeps failing. I really hope someone have an idea? (this would be the second imap mail account becoming unusable on my N900 :() Quote:
Are you using IMAP? I am also on stock SSU (of course with PK) and stock modest. |
Re: Problems with Modest and Gmail
Hey all
With my N900, I have 2 Gmail accounts, both working for years. First account is a googlemail one (old) second account is a gmail one. The googlemail one stopped working where as the gmail one was fine. I solved it by accessing the 2 accounts via POP3 instead of imap. (Set up mail using Other not pre-configured Google Mail) Doesn't solve the issue, but that's how I got mail back on my phone. Does everyone who has this problem have an old googlemail email before they migrated to Gmail? it has nothing (as far as I can tell) to do with the CSSU/CSSU-thumb. |

Is there any way to debug the mysterious "no message with id" after message has been fetched exception (on previous page)

By "receive" I meant "receive and read" ;)

Re: Problems with Modest and Gmail
working here fine too

Re: Problems with Modest and Gmail
The problem is a random situation when I send a email. Sometimes send mail and reaches to the recipient.
Sometimes I can send mail but the recipient who sent, not received ever. However in "sent", from my N900, show that the mail was sent successfully. So now I do not trust Gmail from my N900. Only Yahoo and Hotmail work fine. |
Re: Problems with Modest and Gmail
Have this problem as well. message *** not available on server.
Only on one of my gmail accounts (the one I use). Not on the other. Tried everything (that I could think of), googlemail username.. Imported imap google cert manually. updated ca-certs.. Reinstalled modest, nokiamessaging. Full reflash.. Nothing works. My feeling (just a guess mind you) is the problem is, as is mentioned several times on this thread, on gmails side and no amount of tinkering will get my email account working working with a N900. |
Re: Problems with Modest and Gmail
It could be somehow related to the size of the Gmail message ID numbers. I took a look at the headers of some of my Gmail messages; here's the "Message-ID" field from an email sent yesterday:
Message-ID: <51AE1BD8.4050905@gmail.com> And, here's one from a message sent back in 2008: Message-ID: <48CE8D81.50506@gmail.com> The portion after the dot has grown significantly. Perhaps some Gmail accounts have even larger ID values, and are overrunning some string size limit in modest; or, perhaps some versions of modest can't handle the larger string size? EDIT: I'm probably barking up the wrong tree here, the message ID in Marmistrz' example is: Quote:
|
Re: Problems with Modest and Gmail
It appears the whole of the email is downloaded before it tells me it isn't on the server. Noted this behaviour with an email with a large-ish attachment
|
Re: Problems with Modest and Gmail
Hey, if possible, could someone having this problem send me an example "bad" e-mail? (Preferably one constructed just for testing, so as not to have any personal data in it. :) ) I'd like to see if I can reproduce the problem in my copy of modest.
My Gmail account is jpietrzak8 at gmail.com. Thanks! |
Re: Problems with Modest and Gmail
Every single email! It's completely unusable for me.
|
Re: Problems with Modest and Gmail
I also use gmail, but combined with offlineimap and dovecot, so that both modest and alpine only ever talk to dovecot.
So far I have never noticed any problem such as the one reported here. Note that the "Message (title) not available on the server" as reported on the first post happens (AFAIK) when you are too quickly notified of a new message (e.g. with Nokia Messaging, which I used for a long time in the past) and *then* Google applies whatever filter it makes it move to another folder. When modest then tries to fetch the message, it's not there anymore. |
Re: Problems with Modest and Gmail
no problem here. checked few emails on my gmail account and i haven't faced any problem.

Re: Problems with Modest and Gmail
Aha!!! I've just received a message from Marmistrz that exhibits the problem in my copy of Modest. I'm personally betting that the problem lies in the truly enormous ID string being used for the message:
Message-ID: <CANaCrST0DBGwq7i5iP--aek15eqrRpY-YQ8a0eawo2XVBTzdwA@mail.gmail.com> I think there's something like 66 characters all told in that ID, if I counted right. EDIT: Drat, I've got another message with the same size ID, and that one has no problems, so it can't be the raw size. That one doesn't have any dashes in the ID, though... I'll check the rest of the header for anything suspicious. EDIT 2: I've just noticed that a message from maemo.org earlier this morning also triggers the error. Checking the log, I just see a message like Marmistrz had on the first page of this thread... EDIT 3: From the log, I'm getting the following sequence: Code:
sending : C00000 CAPABILITY Code:
received: C00007 OK Success EDIT 4: Ok, here we go. As of about noon today, my copy of Modest on my main N900 began exhibiting the bad behavior after receiving a particular message from Marmistrz. Since then, every message that had not been previously stored on my N900 comes up with the error message "does not exists". In short, my Gmail connection in Modest has been hosed. However, if I use Modest on my second N900 (and carefully avoid loading any of Marmistrz' messages), everything works fine; I can download new messages off of Gmail with no problem. Thus, I'd have to say that something buggy is going on in Modest itself, something to do with parsing a particular message... |
