Help: Reboot nokia n9

Hey guys, here's the thing I have the Nokia N9 phone, this is the first time am posting here seriously need professional help on this...
Here's the story.

I've been trying to get it launch the camera app to take a picture, but it did not respond. After several tries no respond. I tried the message app, it worked. Try the gallery it did not. So what happens next, I switched off my phone. And...up till now it wont start properly. Do reply here need your comments about this. And flashing, tried it up till the wrench icon. Couldnt get pass that. :(

Read this thread, but can anyone help pass the wrench icon? http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=85596

PS This happened the second time after getting a prompt to update software on an unstable internet connection (apparently), had it fixed at Nokia service centre eventually lost all my information. Simply need a secure way to restart the N9 to retain some contacts and photos.

Re: Help: Reboot nokia n9

Yes thanks so much for the suggestion! As posted I have tried 'flashing' but stopped at the icon. Not sure what is firmware or what it does. More importantly I need the flashing or firmware option to restore the information I previously have. Can you guide me? Not the best at technology fixing but I'll do what I can :)

Re: Help: Reboot nokia n9

I can't and don't understand from this part.

SELECTING A FIRMWARE IMAGE (N9 SPECIFIC)

Are they the same? The thread / video tutorial? Does this video help the N9 reboot to the original without wiping out my information?

http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=rIlv2Tl...%3DrIlv2TlXU5U

PS realized I haven't update the status of my phone. Once started with the power on/off button on the side, I get a single vibration and a white led flash with the Nokia word displayed and that's it. Few seconds later, black screen and (I think) it's switched off / not responding.

After I tried flashing, using the flasher prompt (not sure if I did it right) I get a wrench icon after connecting phone to pc. But i think the pc couldnt detect my device, cause i get a unable to connect sign from the driver software update on pc. That's how far I got. Yeap néed all the help I can get.

Re: Help: Reboot nokia n9

if you need to rescue some data, then use rescue kernel and initrd to mount the drives in linux.

Mikkosssss 2013-07-18 11:35

Re: Help: Reboot nokia n9

Do you get warning icon when you try boot few times.
If you do keep it on that screen and connect to pc with Nokia software updater.
It says you have latest version do you want reinstall.
Maybe its easier for you than using flasher.
You wont lose any contacts or messages but you will lose your apps.

Re: Help: Reboot nokia n9

Hi! Am using windows 7 to fix my Nokia N9. Nope I don't get a warning icon. I got up to the wrench icon and I don't know what to do after that :(

Mm rescue kernel and Intrid...where can I download it? I previously found the download but after downloading its not a program right cause I couldn't open it. It's codes for the flasher or something?

The warning icon...do I need to get to that point so it's easier?

Mikkosssss 2013-07-18 15:21

Re: Help: Reboot nokia n9

What Rainisto suggested was getting into your N9 filesystem so you could copy/paste what you want to computer.
That wont fix your N9 and you need linux for that.

You should try using flasher.

Nokia Software updater would be easy to use but I dont know how you can get to warning screen.

You could go to local phone repair shop and tell em that you need your phone flashed but that costs money.

Ah I see, I don't have the Linux os. Haha stuck with this flasher thing with no proper coding background am so lost. Any suggestions for phone repair stores, will try to take it to them.

Re: Help: Reboot nokia n9

I couldn't get pass the firmware download mainly it doesn't exist and takes too long, about 9 hours to get the file to download.

Do recommend some local phone repair store? I don't mind having to pay a small fee to retrieve some lost information.

Re: Help: Reboot nokia n9

I don't see the problem?

1. get winflasher from here and install it

2. open up your N9's sim tray and look for the product code...
3. get the corresponding firmware image from here
(It's the one about 1.1-1.2 gig in size, e.g Dfl61 Harmattan 40.2012.21-3 Pr Legacy 005-oem1-958 Arm.bin)

4.move the image into the Flasher folder where the flasher.exe is located and run a CMD (with admin permissions!!!)

5. in CMD goto the Flasher folder (with flasher.exe and your firmware image) and start flashing using the comprehensive firmware flashing guide...

READ THE GUIDE CAREFULLY!!!
you may want to use flasher like this to replace just the N9's OS and keep your user data
Code:

flasher -f -F main.bin

rainisto 2013-07-19 07:21

Re: Help: Reboot nokia n9

ofcourse the problem here is that flashing main.bin wipes your contacts, and he was trying to save them.

Afaik flashing main.bin doesn't remove your contacts... (not 100% sure!)
Besides, you don't need linux to flash your N9
Thats why it's called winflasher ;)

Stuck here: http://www.mrcrab.net/Nokia-Product-...ctCode=059J245 which file should i download?

I chose this: http://nds2.fds-fire.nokia.com/p/d/f...M1-958_ARM.bin

mcbook 2013-07-19 11:36

Re: Help: Reboot nokia n9

keep in mind that I'm not a 100% certain that flashing only the firmware won't delete your contacts! don't hold me responsible

to find out which firmware image is the right one you need to open and look at the sim tray!

there should be a product code. somthing like this 059****

download the right firmware and off you go ;)

PS sorry for the delay, was out buying groceries...

Re: Help: Reboot nokia n9

No probes! Yes i checked the sim tray right at the back, are the codes that start from 0. The second part, the link that i've finished downloading,
http://nds2.fdsfire.nokia.com/p/d/fd...M1-958_ARM.bin

opened it and it was a video for GLEE season 4 :-(

what???

what's the problem?

Mikkosssss 2013-07-19 14:05

Re: Help: Reboot nokia n9

I Would say that download any pr 1.3 and flash it.

Theres no difrence than default language and pre downloaded maps as far as I know.

mcbook 2013-07-19 14:14

Re: Help: Reboot nokia n9

yes, you can do that as well but i don't see the problem with choosing the right one..

further more you don't need to open the image with anything!!!
.bin file is fine

you probably opened it with some media player which couldn't read the file (of course) and just jumped to the next video in the folder or whatever...

it's not rocket science ;)

mcbook 2013-07-21 06:50

Re: Help: Reboot nokia n9

Re: Help: Reboot nokia n9

Hah! Nokia service centre in KL, don't have the technology to fix my phone....GRR.
Btw, I have to ask does reflash work to the extend of retrieving my information or no. Am getting replies that there are no such thing as reflashing

Mikkosssss 2013-07-23 10:14

Re: Help: Reboot nokia n9

Who are you asking? Every phone fixer knows how to flash android so how they wont know about it? :p

You dont have any friends that know about computers?
You could just ask them to do it and tell to just follow instructions.

Or I can help you in this thread click by click.

First you should have WinFlasher_3.12.1.exe

And any 1.3 firmware.

When you have those ask so I tell next steps.

mcbook 2013-07-23 10:16

Re: Help: Reboot nokia n9

afaik if you just flash firmware everything that is located under /home/user/MyDocs is preserved which includes pics, music, videos and documents

i don't know if flashing the firmware preserves your contact list!

however, i don't see what you have to lose...
if you don't fix your phone contacts are gone anyways ;)

if you wnat to flash it yourself you can use the instructions i gave you and (of course) the comprehensive firmware flashing guide

If you have questions/trouble feel free to ask :)

Re: Help: Reboot nokia n9

I asked the technician at the Nokia service centre, and apparently thousands of other phones went through the process of reinstallation and lost all their info as well, not only Nokia phones. They analysed my phone today and said it was a software/motherboard failure and add that if i cant get pass the Nokia logo on my phone to load, meaning there is no way to retrieve old information and they have to refresh the entire system.

Do tell, what is reflash or flashing exactly, and how does it work. I installed the items mentioned and connect the phone to pc right? And the result will let me retrieve my information on the phone or on the pc? Btw, am using the meego/harmattan do Nokia N9.

Mikkosssss 2013-07-23 16:39

Re: Help: Reboot nokia n9

Reflashing over writes old system files with new.

Command what we are suggesting you to do is: flasher -f -F main.bin

With that command you wont lose your data stored in MyDocs.

Theres backup files from messages, contacts, emails and even settings stored in MyDocs.

You control your flasher from your Pc command line.
Open it as administrator:

Open startmenu on pc.
Type CMD to search field.
Right Click it and open as administrator.
Now follow guide and type in commands.

Re: Help: Reboot nokia n9

So there is backup for my files even if I did not backup them before this happend? The technicians are telling me that there isn't a way to retrieve information.

Here is good video guide:

You dont have to do firmware download part.
And you will have only 1 file in video there was folder with 5 files.

The Navifirm icon / Run Navifirm where can I find it or download it? I already downloaded flasher.

Mikkosssss 2013-07-24 12:40

Re: Help: Reboot nokia n9

You dont need Navifirm thats only firmware downloading program.

You already downloaded those files without that program

Re: Help: Reboot nokia n9

Right, so after downloading the firmware : http://nds2.fds-fire.nokia.com/p/d/f...M1-958_ARM.bin then, I just open flasher?

UPDATE 30 MINUTES left :)

mcbook 2013-07-24 15:28

Flasher is a command line tool, there is no graphical user interface!

you need to open a command line promt (cmd.exe) with admin privileges and execute the commands

dishevelled 2013-07-24 15:41

Re: Help: Reboot nokia n9

Yep, I have to type/copy paste in a command. Do I use the flasher tool or cmd? What do I do after downloading the firmware. Do I open it with some program?
