Have you ever used your camera to make video call?

I was just curious, it was a neat idea, but it seems horribly implemented. Did not seem real useful unless everyone you know has an n800.

Nope, and never will until Nokia - or some other enterprising mind - makes it possible to easily use it with other software.
Really, right now I only care about getting Skype with video on the thing.

Yeah Peng...

Have used it quite often to vid chat with friends locally (somewhere in New Mexico) and internationally to several friends in the UK... oh, and one friend on the east coast... and the quality was from "exceptible" to "super".

Please note that these chats were with other N800 users.

Regards...

Re: Have you ever used your camera to make video call?

I've got it to work a couple of times already.
pretty simple.
N800 to N800
N800 to PC (well no more of this, really sucks for taking this out.)
you should remove that multiple choice of N800 to PC, it is not available anymore.

They removed N800 to PC because it was horribly done and very unreliable, but have stated the feature will make a comeback in the future.

Probably right around the time Duke Nukem Forever is released.

You're right, take out that "N800 to PC" option, and add what the majority of us has really done: "Yes, once, to test the functionality, but no more because there aren't so much users using N800".

I would give my vote for that (tested with Mika some weeks ago)

Re: Have you ever used your camera to make video call?

I thought the handheld to pc function worked okay. I called my dad with it. He installed the desktop app to his dell laptop with the built in camera. Used it to show him all the projects I have going on around the house. Even went out in the yard to see how well it worked in the sun. I couldn't see the screen, but he said the video looked pretty good. Not too bad for a video call from a handheld in the middle of nowhere Alaska to just north of Dayton Ohio.

Yea, that will probably get pushed back so they can use the new Cry engine. So that would make it the second Tuesday of the third week in June, 2142. :D

People said the same thing about Flash 9 as well. ;)

Re: Have you ever used your camera to make video call?

I find it interesting that Nokia deemed in necessary to put the hardware on the n800, and then never really implemented it well. Sure n800 to n800 works fairly well, but I do not want to buy my wife an n800 so I can use it, and I don't know anyone else who owns one. I am a unix admin, and have supported windows also, I spent one day many months ago trying to make the n800 to PC work with no luck. I was able to compile and package window maker in the same amount of time.

It just seems it should not be that hard to make work. I see some people say they got n800 to PC working OK, thats more than I could do. I guess I should not be surprised from a company that takes 6 months to put out firmware that make the touchscreen actually work. It seems that they should have fixed that prior to release, but perhaps the QA people dropped the ball again, but I would guess it was a Nokia rushing this to market

That's probably a good reason why the beta was dropped.

Yes I noticed it when I posted the poll, and I wanted to make a change to the poll but I am unable to change the poll, as far as I can tell?

I

Re: Have you ever used your camera to make video call?

heh, the quality isn't bad, except that using a quickcam and CUseeME on a Mac Quadra 605 (16megs of ram!!!) on dial-up 13 years ago yielded better video, sound, and usability. But hey, it was a pretty good marketing scheme, it got me to buy an N800. Too bad the cam is worse than the cam on my 3 yr old nokia 6230b cell phone. And the n800 can't even record video? man...
