Re: [Poll] Upgrading mp-harmattan version in Trusted

@www.rzr.online.fr its other purpose. mp-harmattan update means pre-CSSU. but your meta-harmattan its other story :)

Re: [Poll] Upgrading mp-harmattan version in Trusted

What would this exactly mean? (I'm kinda noob) Does this mean that I could get bug fixes for the core OS? (harmattan)

Re: [Poll] Upgrading mp-harmattan version in Trusted

what is mp?

wolke 2013-08-30 19:03

Re: [Poll] Upgrading mp-harmattan version in Trusted

im not sure its relevant, but i personally remove the mp-harmattan-00#-or package on mu device, so i can remove these:
wxapp apnews realgolf2011 gof2 nfsshift
angrybirdsfreemagic
ovi-music-store morpheus morpheus-guard
mp-harmattan-006-pr
facebook facebookqml libqt-facebook facebook-meego
twitter twitter-qml libmeegotwitter1 twitter-meego

Re: [Poll] Upgrading mp-harmattan version in Trusted

@hene193 i will never support noobs in this project, sorry. only for advanced users :D

Re: [Poll] Upgrading mp-harmattan version in Trusted

In my opinion its very nice idea...
But for me, like wolke wrote, i also removed it with your tweak :)
That give me possibility to remove system packaged that i not need: ovi-music, twitter etc..
And from what i understand, in this case user can't get update...

These pkgs can be set as recommends.

i have no idea why you talking about remove stock applications here.
upgrading mp-harmattan is for other purpose.

If we fix mp-harmattan to allow newer version we can remove that "bug" that forces the user to have crap like twitter and facebook.

This! I'd like a new mp-harmattan even just for this.

Hmm, do I smell a Harmattan CSSU?

Ha, looks like twitter and facebook on your device is a most worst problem of the whole Harmattan OS. You are so ducking lucky I must say! :p

coderus 2013-08-31 15:31

Re: [Poll] Upgrading mp-harmattan version in Trusted

@marmistrz sure we can, but current aim is different :)
@Hurrian yes, like small pre-CSSU with experimental, testing and stable revisions, i think.
@Kroll i think same, but users like to remove apps from system instead of hiding icons :D

It ain't. But is the one that can be fixed most easily :)

wolke 2013-08-31 18:17

Re: [Poll] Upgrading mp-harmattan version in Trusted

well, dont twitter and facebook have prestarts?
i also find it disgusting to have a core-os meta-package depend on 3rd party external user software.

there is absolutely no reason not to remove the mp-harm-pr, right?
if youre going to replace it, you could also easily remove the inane dependencies, right?

coderus 2013-08-31 18:20

Re: [Poll] Upgrading mp-harmattan version in Trusted

@wolke facebook and twitter prestart if only have active accounts. but yes it can have this effect. but i dont want to count in.

wolke 2013-08-31 18:31

Re: [Poll] Upgrading mp-harmattan version in Trusted

thats good to know.

'but i dont want to count in. ' sorry, im not sure what you mean. you disagree with removing them from the mp? since its obviously going to be you doing this, you dont have to defend yourself, but im curious as to why.

coderus 2013-08-31 18:37

Re: [Poll] Upgrading mp-harmattan version in Trusted

there is no easy way to just remove it from mp-harmattan dependencies. autoremove will delete all old dependencies.
i mean my poll. current purpose is differ.
if you want removing stock packages by my initiative then you should wait for another project.

wolke 2013-08-31 19:30

Re: [Poll] Upgrading mp-harmattan version in Trusted

gotcha. its pretty annoying that facebook/twitter are not marked as manually installed when theyre toplevel user-facing apps

coderus 2013-08-31 19:32

Re: [Poll] Upgrading mp-harmattan version in Trusted

it have own upgrade system with safe-updating metapackage data, need to investigate it deeper

Re: [Poll] Upgrading mp-harmattan version in Trusted

Wow, I must say coderus, you have been absolutely on fire in the past several months.
Are we seeing the beginnings of a CSSU-like system for Harmattan? Or even (dare I say) something better?

Eztran 2013-09-01 16:58

Re: [Poll] Upgrading mp-harmattan version in Trusted

Considering the number of people who seem to dislike them, what about removing the Twitter/Facebook/etc. dependencies from mp-harmattan, then making a new metapackage requiring them instead? That way, people can remove those apps if they want, or install that package if they don't want autoremove to nuke them.

coderus 2013-09-01 17:45

Re: [Poll] Upgrading mp-harmattan version in Trusted

@Eztran why not to use my new QQ tweak in N9QT for just unlocking mp-harmattan? t easier than using upgrade mp-harmattan version ;)

Yeah, of course that's the reasonable way to do it. I don't actually mind them myself, it was just a suggestion, based on the number of people who think the dependencies should never have been there in the first place.

marmistrz 2013-09-01 19:24

Re: [Poll] Upgrading mp-harmattan version in Trusted

You can apt-get all the redundant packages so that they are set to manually installed. (or just the main ones)

meemorph 2013-09-03 14:41

Upgrading mp-harmattan sounds intresting. But what else does that package contain than certs and stupid dependencies?
Could an updated mp enable firmware downgrades?
