[WIP] [N9] SailfishOS icons theme
 

I'm working on a Sailfish OS theme for Nokia N9. So far mainly on icons, not sure yet how much of a UI customization I'll do. Icons are inspired by recent Jolla-in-action videos and my own imagination of what they could look like. All of them are available in 500x500px resolution & 3rd party apps are supported as well (as far as possible).

I'm a bit experienced with CSS, but haven't worked yet on CSS layouts used in Harmattan. But seeing that there are people around like "DJJonosound" (with that amazing looking iOS7 theme) I hope I can get some answers :)

-What's the best way to distribute & use such a theme? Theme Settings by Vesa Halttunen? (excl. the Boot up intro)

-Is there a risk to break the system while "playing" with CSS layouts? Any possibility to avoid it? I'm not in a big mood to re-flash the device to often ;)

Ideas or suggestions are always welcome - of course also desired 3rd party app icons (next to the ones already on the picture).

To answer some of your questions:
Distribution - Package as deb file that installs the files into /usr/share/themes and then the theme will be picked up in the theme settings app :) (Can also be manually done with a zip file)

Breaking - I am fluent with CSS, but from what I have seen in harmattan css in some cases identifiers dont work, so if you end up putting one in that isnt supported, yes you can break the device easily. Keep flasher open and just use R&D and SSH to patch to a stable theme. (I have a few themes installed that I can always fall back on.)

Thanks for your reply! Both answers actually help a lot. Once I'm done with the app/system icons, I'm going to have a closer look at those CSS files - let's see how that will work out :)

The CSS files are the tricky part. The tags are definitely not the most logical :P

If he want to make a complete mod of the interface, it is impossible with theme changer.
Theme changer mod limited things like icons

Deb for my theme is on its way. And no, I am not forking and making multiple versions. Not worth the effort on my behalf. I will however do two versions for.. I will post that later ;)

Great icon..still waaiting 3rd party icon for jolla theme.

Thanks for all the great answers and offered help - I'll def come back on that! I didn't have time the past days to work on it & after 2 great years with my N9, the phone is going crazy since today :( I'll need to fix that first.

Here the list of done icons (native and 3rd party apps without system icons). 42 at the moment - more will come.

-Since I won't go through the hole Nokia Store, what other applications do you want to see in the Sailfish-icon-theme? I'll try to include them.

-Some icons aren't placed in themes, but in the option-package folder (opt). Idk yet what to do about them, since they can't be applied with a theme switcher. Any ideas?

Apparently you need to use a .deb to back up original files then replace with yours, and on un-installation remove them. Hence why I am not supporting most 3rd party icons :P

Yeah I guess such a .deb file would be the best solution. I can totally understand why you don't support 3rd party apps - it's quiet a mess with the icons :rolleyes:

I'm coming to an end with the icon and release it asap. Icons are all done very carefully with the aim to match the existing Harmattan interface - which I'm personally still a big fan of :)

@Ancelad: I don't understand your post here, but I saw your work on Twitter. Looks fantastic what you're doing there! Despite both being "Sailfish" imitations, it seems we both work on something different. Maybe we could even match our projects with each other (in case you haven't application icons) or offer different theme files which can be combined with each other.

I'm open to any idea. PM me or I'm also on twitter (@capricotwi04) if you want :)

I'm not sure that I want change icons, by some reasons... But probably I'll do that. Different theme files which can be combined with each other - great idea in my opinion. Good luck :)

@commenters above: I've been very busy & couldn't put a lot of time into the icons. But I'm working on them right now and hopefully have a deb file ready as soon as possible. Sorry for the wait, but it takes a lot of time & sometimes I just lack the idea how I should make an icon look like ;)

Yes I'll provide a deb file which will be compatible with Ancelad's Sailfish theme. Later on a 2nd install file with additional notification icons for those who want to keep using the MeeGo look.

@Caprico if we replace the the icons in the Blanco theme with the ones by Jolla Argentina you posted in Ancelad's thread, Will it break the system? You said it would & Ancelad seems to disagree with that.

Hmm... After a fresh flash, I'm enjoying the original harmattan UI look. Not using SailFish for the time being. :-)
