N9 changed battery, now the touch screen doesn't work.....
hey guys,
so I changed the battery of my N9 and now the touch input doesn't work any more  I definitely didn't break the screen because I have a spare and that one doesn't work either! hope you guys can help me cause I'm kinda freaking out here ^^ |
Re: N9 changed batter, now the touch screen soesn't work.....
Have you tried putting the old battery back in? Then trying the screens?
|
Re: N9 changed batter, now the touch screen soesn't work.....
no, but I can try
although this would kinda defeat the purpose ^^ |
Re: N9 changed batter, now the touch screen soesn't work.....
no, doesn't help either...
ah, **** |
Re: N9 changed batter, now the touch screen soesn't work.....
ok so it isn't the battery and probably not the screens so it must be the main board..possibly damaged socket where screen plugs in?
|
Re: N9 changed batter, now the touch screen soesn't work.....
I don't think so. looks alle very nice to me
I read somewhere that the screen needs to be calibrated/initialized somehow? |
Re: N9 changed battery, now the touch screen doesn't work.....
well, I guess I'm ****ed...
did a reflash of the main sw image and the screen is still not responding... |
Re: N9 changed battery, now the touch screen doesn't work.....
I know this may sound dumb, but chances are you have a cable loose.
|
Re: N9 changed battery, now the touch screen doesn't work.....
I only disconnected 3 cables (screen, proximity and battery) and I checked them multiple times...
|
Re: N9 changed battery, now the touch screen doesn't work.....
does nobody have an idea ?

Re: N9 changed battery, now the touch screen doesn't work.....
what do you mean?
how can I check syslog? In case this could be usefull info, I still have ubiboot in place and may be able to telnet into the n9 if I'd have a linux pc at hand... |

Just boot into maintanace mode, telnet in and get "dmesg" |
Re: N9 changed battery, now the touch screen doesn't work.....
I'm in the process to do the same... Any ideas why this happened?
|
Re: N9 changed battery, now the touch screen doesn't work.....
no idea,
I'm almost certain I didn't short anything.... can't be the ribbon cable because I have a spare screen with the same issue it would imho be a one in a million to just damage the touch input part of the screen/cable/connector..... tested the old battery, no luck ... flashed new main image, no luck ... no clue what it could be?!! I will post dmesg output tomorrow and hope for the best!!! maybe it's a sign of god to move on^^ |
Re: N9 changed battery, now the touch screen doesn't work.....
oh man, that is terrible
I was about to change my battery, but now Im a little scared. |

Your touchscreen HW is broken. It is either the cable, or the connector, or the chip itself that's not functioning correctly. You should have something like this in your dmesg: Code:
input: Atmel mXT Touchscreen as /devices/platform/i2c_omap.2/i2c-2/2-004b/input/input3 Code:
atmel_mxt 2-004b: error in preinit -5 |
Re: N9 changed battery, now the touch screen doesn't work.....
guess I have to bring it to a service provider then...
no clue what I should do now, I love my N9 ;( would you guys go for another (I mean it's 3 year-old hardware but the design and os is just slick as **** :D ) maybe I have to settle for some android crap.... |
Re: N9 changed battery, now the touch screen doesn't work.....
The cable is torn probably :( I replaced my wifes Lumia 800 screen for the miserly price of £26. However i had to but two as I managed to tear the connection lead and the touch screen stopped responding. It was a tiny tear but enough to kill one of the copper tracks.
The other thing that can happen is the proximity sensor gets dislodged but that only affects the screen when you try making or naging up a call. So the worst news is the screen needs replacing. But the good news is that genuine N9 screens (and yes i know they are different from Lumia 800 ones) can be had for very little on ebay. The very nature of the limited production run of the N9 means there are very few fake parts as there just was not the demand for the fakers to bother. |
Re: N9 changed battery, now the touch screen doesn't work.....
it's not the screen!
I have a spare screen and tested it --> same result.... but thanks anyways for your input :) |
Re: N9 changed battery, now the touch screen doesn't work.....
Then it must be the connector socked on the main board or some other main board damage :(
|
Re: N9 changed battery, now the touch screen doesn't work.....
afraid so....
|
Did you check if there is any video on youtube from that guy LE55ONS? I think he had some dismantling video and maybe you can redo your procedure. I'll try to find something as well
UPDATE: here it is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9dxsTGpGRhs maybe you can ask this guy in the comments section on the youtube good luck |
Re: N9 changed battery, now the touch screen doesn't work.....
well, in fact I followed this video tutorial to change the battery but it didn't work for me....
I disassembled and reassembled my N9 a couple of times but I couldn't get it working again.... As juiceme already pointed out, it's a HW failure according to the system log..... bad luck I guess! Anyways, I'll be back^^ |
Re: N9 changed battery, now the touch screen doesn't work.....
I'm back b*tches!!!!!!!!!!!! :D
|
Re: N9 changed battery, now the touch screen doesn't work.....

if so glad you did it. what did you do? |
Re: N9 changed battery, now the touch screen doesn't work.....
