Boy, you are busy. I think you need to make a decision on what you really need :)
Wrong link: new page is: http://linuxonandroid.org/

You can also try https://github.com/meefik/linuxdeploy, on android.

What about Ubuntu Touch? Anyone tinkered with that so far?
Aren't we dealing with a locked bootloader on the Jolla?

Re: Ubuntu

I have installed
Open_Source_Complete_Linux_Installer_28072013.apk on my jolla but when I choose img ubuntu file
I have this error:

Unable to find terminal APP.

Because there is no android terminal on my jolla.

How can I resolve this error?

EDIT:

I have installed:

Terminal Emulator_1.0.52.apk on my jolla.

Now it works.

But I need to have the su password?

My error:

cd /home/nemo/ubuntu 12.04
/system/bin/sh: cd: bad substitution
$ su
Password: ??????

Re: Ubuntu

$sudo passwd root

or

$su passwd root

Re: Ubuntu

hmm try this in JOLLA terminal
devel-su (password you set in devveloper mode)
passwd root
then, set a root password

now, i think, su with password you just set will work

Hi. I use Linux on Android on my Galaxy Note 3. I use fedora with the mate desktop. Its nice. Are you able to set up a desktop environment? On android phone I have to use vnc which does not transmit sound. The linux on android folks are trying to fix this by making a new rom. Perhaps on Jolla phone this might not be an issue. Let me know. (more of a reason for me to buy the phone!) You might be interested in this link

One more thing, if available for Jolla you might try "hackers keyboard" it has ctrl and tab on keyboard.

PS. According to some threads on XDA, Ubuntu for phone version will be available to try on Nexus 5 late January or February.

When I boot up linux on android a terminal comes up. From here I can use sudo.
Also, since you are using ubuntu is your default password "ubuntu"
(without quotes of course!)

Re: Ubuntu

in Jolla terminal

$ devel-su
# passwd root

after, in Android terminal

$ su
(enter password you set before, in Jolla terminal)
#

works fine

Re: Ubuntu

Oh, Looks like what you wanted to do was access root and sudo on Jolla phone using android terminal. Not root on ubuntu... Sorry about that!

Passwd works.

Now I have an error.

bash: precmd: command not found

WHY?

Re: Ubuntu

Maybe you should stick with Sailfish OS and not play with the linux terminal...

you played with BASH prompt.
Dude, you have been given the answers. Yet you are demanding in your requests.
Best advice, dont play with things you dont know. You can mess up stuff you dont want. I will even advice you to not use developer mode!

1) I run gui to install or run ubuntu
2) I set my pass from my sailfish terminal.
3) I run ubuntu and when i had the android terminal run i have this error just after put pass.

So I don't play with BASH prompt.
