Telegram on SailfishOS
 

I actually wanted to switch to XMPP, but telegram seems quite fine as well. So I started compiling the source of Telegram-cli which went father flawlessly. Every dependency can be found in the repositories. I have not tried yet registering, so I'll keep you updated. For now it seems to work fine. Now my friends have to switch from Whatsapp. :p

(Screenshots will come as soon as I can upload them from my pc, maybe this evening)

Telegram's working fine indeed. Contacts sync straight from phonebook would be even better though. Well, we'll see. :)

Hi Guys

i downloaded and installed Telegram (official android app) on my jolla running latest version 1.0.3.8.. (i didn,t register yet)

although the site (dev) says it is encrypted en secure and stuff
i would love to know the difference between this Cli and the official app..
I don,t use whatsapp i use Mitäkuuluu because i don,t want my stuff out there..

so my question is really.. Do you guys think it's safe to use official telegram app.. Or shall i just wait for Native Sailfish version (with extra features :)..) thanks in advance

People around me flee towards Telegram, so I was curious. However, the rpm did not install on my Jolla.
Failed, error code 7.
pkcon -y -p install-local /home/nemo/Downloads/elegram-cli-Beta-2.armv7hl.rpm
Fatal error: nothing provides libconfig.so.9 needed by telegram-cli-Beta-2.armv7hl
I guess I'd better wait for a version in Warehouse ;)

hi guys

i registered and all went well.. But now i get a error number 17 to be exact ..

it also says couldn't find public key file: tg.pub
followed by..
bad_msg_notification... ms_id=59831320 seq=11 error=17

what am i doing wrong ?

Maybe I should uninstall this repository. I can't check for updates on Warehouse.
Hate to experiment on this uninstall command, so could you provide it, coderus? Cheers!

P.S. Updates in Warehouse are available from My Profile, but Check Updates from the Recently Updated Apps screen.

Telegram is not fine. The server is not open, there is no proper end to end encryption and why is it needed if it's not federated? No thanks. It's not a replacement for XMPP by any means.

I,m not able to add repo.. i,ve tried warehouse and manually but with no luck ..

also in cli it is still not able to find public key although it is visible in my Filebrowser (server.pub).. once again i registered my account and received sms code all went well.. but now i keep getting the same error 17 ***bad_msg_notification..

I think there need to be an safe replacement to skype, instant message and conferences. And it should also be decentralized. Not to much geek because then no one will use it.

@coderus: Anything is better than Whatsapp (which is simply horrible). I.e. any conventional and standard compliant XMPP service is.

Any chance this app could be ported to meego? I read Bojan would be interested in working with a team for a client app of BBM, so I was wondering if any developer could do this in exchange of donations which I would be willing to give as part of the small meego community.
