Re: Nokia n9 stuck on warning! you have modified the device software...

Hello,

I did not use my N9 since some weeks now so i may be a bit rusty.
But if i remember well, i got the same when i tried to upgrade the Kernel.
But it should boot anyway.

You should specify what you did before you got this.

If you tried to update the kernel, you should havea look at the firmware update wiki page to reflash only the kernel.

About the flash error, are you sure you use to correct firmware version?

Re: Nokia n9 stuck on warning! you have modified the device software...

it just turned off and when I tried to turn it on it got stuck on nokia logo and then I tried to reflash and got this warning.. I also tried
Quote:

flasher -a DFL61_HARMATTAN_40.2012.21-3_PR_LEGACY_001-OEM1-958_ARM.bin -k zImage.pr13 --flash-only=kernel -f -R
and I get a success message but no changes on n9

Re: Nokia n9 stuck on warning! you have modified the device software...

Did you install any mod? Or theme or anything?
Or maybe aegis stuff or system package from external source?

robert01 2014-07-01 14:29

Re: Nokia n9 stuck on warning! you have modified the device software...

no.. what does that error mean?

Re: Nokia n9 stuck on warning! you have modified the device software...

maybe problem with partitions?

Mitrigol 2014-07-01 14:42

Re: Nokia n9 stuck on warning! you have modified the device software...

Yes it may, sfdisk is a partition tool. Did you modify your partition?

You should have a look at this tread:
http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=82655

I think you will find a solution for your issue.

Also i noticed you downloaded the same firmware as used in the N9 flash wiki. are you sure it is the correct one for your phone? Check your SIM tray for needed version.

Re: Nokia n9 stuck on warning! you have modified the device software...

i have the correct firmware, checked.. I am on win xp and 7, dont have linux.. at this thread its on linux, can i do it on win? can I see which partitions I have on win xp or 7? sorry for my english

Mitrigol 2014-07-01 15:16

Re: Nokia n9 stuck on warning! you have modified the device software...

You should read the entire posts. more specifically, posts from n°28 which is exactly the same issue as yours.

Also, you can't use the same tools on linux, but flasher commands are the same.

tried everything but still the same.. how can I check partition distribution of my N9 on windows? is there any way?

why are you trying to flash this kernel?

juiceme 2014-07-02 06:52

Re: Nokia n9 stuck on warning! you have modified the device software...

Well, you probably can flash it corrcetly with original firmware files if you do that in "erase all userdata mode" which rewrites your partitions.

However, that does wipe the device totally clean, so I suggest first boot it with a rescue kernel and make backups, if you have anything of worth there you want to save.

I've tried with "flasher -f -F main.bin --erase-user-data=secure" but still the same error

Re: Nokia n9 stuck on warning! you have modified the device software...

rober01, you simple need to flash the firmware and emmc images together, without booting in between, and the message will go away.

following that, you can run disclaimer-cal --remove to permanently delete the error message from the phone, and reinstall the openkernel. {syntax is: 'disclaimer-cal remove View-openmode'}

ive done this dozens of times on 4 different n9s.

oh sorry, nevermind, i should actually read what your problem is before answering. cant help with windows, so ill just show myself out.

my apologies, what i said wont help you. {i misunderstood thinking that you meant flashing failed to remove the image, not that flashing failed with an error because of partitions.}

No!?

"flasher -f -F main.bin -F eMMC.bin" does rewrite partitions.
Above wipes user data (only).

Or am I plain stupid/old/Alzheimer'ish??

Re: Nokia n9 stuck on warning! you have modified the device software...

if you are still stuck after trying variations of the flasher command, may i suggest downloading a gnu/linux image {say, linux mint with cinnamon}, burning it onto a thumbdrive, temporarily booting into it, and then just using parted from mint?

I tried every single command but nothing.. I'll download it but is there any tutorial or something that could help me because I've never used linux

Weelll, could be it is me who is alzhaimeric here now, but AFAIR "-F emmc.bin -F firmware.bin" does not repartition, it writes the images to existing partitions. Only adding "--erase-user-data=secure" repartitions it...

At least adding "--cold-flash" to the rest of the arguments should repartition it, hmm?

peterleinchen 2014-07-02 15:09

Re: Nokia n9 stuck on warning! you have modified the device software...

Argh...

Now I remember. Yes it is me.

emmc flashing writes to existing partitions. It does not repartition.
Only if you modified partition layout (as I did) it will ask you to add --no-preserve and then repartition.

So -erase-user-data was the one to use.
Adding -c (cold flash) should do it too. And especially here...

Re: Nokia n9 stuck on warning! you have modified the device software...

really tried everything but still no luck.. downloading linux mint cinnamon live, it's on 80%

nieldk 2014-07-02 15:55

Re: Nokia n9 stuck on warning! you have modified the device software...

just do
flasher -f -F main.bin -F emmc.bin --no-preserve. -r

it will create partitions as was originally
have done this a zillion times when reflashing my N9 which I repartition to get more space for apps (i usually repartition from 2 gig to 10 gig on my N9)

Re: Nokia n9 stuck on warning! you have modified the device software...

mmh. Pretty strange that. It is possible that your device's flash is broken.
Or you could have corrupted images. (more likely I think)
At least there's no "downgrade disallowed" message so your images are probably the correct version.

What you could do, is to download ubiboot kernel, and try to boot with that to maintanance mode. Then you'd find out if your flash is OK and partitionable.
  • download http://www.swagman.org/juice/ubiboot...3.5_301013.tar
  • extract the file zImage_2.6.32.54-ubiboot-02_301013
  • use flasher to jumpstart that on your device: "sudo flasher -k zImage_2.6.32.54-ubiboot-02_301013 -l -b"
  • connect USB cable to powered-off N9
  • Wait for the filesystem to export to Linux

You do need linux with that, windows is pretty much useless.

Yes, both is possible. Do a search on the forum for 'firmware flash files md5sum' or similar and you should find. Else download again and compare

Just for the record (not saying Linux is not the best alternative): I do use Windows with OSS driver ExtFS and I can see all (write access may work but I am too scary :p).

Well, there's always the best tool for every task. When the best tool is not available it is always possible to use other tools but it might be cumbersome.

Linux is the best tool for SW development, hence I always recommend that. It grieves me to see people struggle on with WIndows, it just looks so bad and difficult.
And just as you mention, you need to install several packages outside the OS to make it do the simplest things...

On the other hand, Windows is the best tool for secretarial work. I have to jump several hoops backwards to handle such things as documents embedded inside another with OLE links pointing this way and that... things that come naturally with Windows. (please do not send me that kind of docs, I hate it...)

when I try with parted, mkpart it says: error :unrecognised disk label
EDIT: i created a new msdos disklabel (partition table) with mklabel but now when I try mkpart to make partitions when I put start: 1024 it puts start:1024mb not 1024s

there is the original partition layout in the thread that was given before, more specific in this post. Create those partitions and try a reflash
