help me again please

hello guru users i am tired of my phone;
Firstly, it would turn off a few minutes later after i launch opera browser even having full battery. If i want to use opera for long hours, i need to plug in the charger.
Secondly, my application manager keeps on refreshing everytime i launch it of after downloading an application. The refreshing usually takes long.
And much more when i'll have solution for these i'll post other problems.

Re: help me again please

1. Learn how to write useful thread titles. "Help me again please" is about as useless as it gets.

2. Get a new battery. Going down from full to empty in a few minutes like that is a clear indicator that your battery is nearly dead.

3. Tha stock application manager is painfully slow. A simple solution is not to use it all the time: find a stable set of application you use and leave it at that. Keeping installing and uninstalling applications all the time tells more about you than about your phone. If you really can't resist fiddling, consider using Faster Application Manager.

dont touch faster app manager try a reflash it feels like your device is too bloated with leftover cruft and use opera 11,5 then possibly get a new battrey though as the avove post says your battrey is faulty

Re: help me again please

I agree with you that HAM's auto updating every time you start it is a big pain. However there is also a way to disable it and refresh list manually when needed. Here is the method:

Open Xterminal and type:
Code:

gconftool -s --type int /apps/hildon/update-notifier/check_interval 1440000
And press enter. Now disconnect your N900 from internet and Open HAM and go to the application list and when it asks for internet connection don't connect it.

When its done with loading applications, now connect your N900 to internet and update/refresh your application list manually.

Re: help me again please

Pichlo, Nokiabot and Panjgoori got it right man....
something ain't right inside your device...too bunged up...if opera is closing shortly after opening. Use 11.5 opera as suggested.
Definitely clean yer system out man...Reflash.

I like others found the ugly sharp end of FAM not as pleasing even though it is appealing as to how fast it performs...it makes a mucky mess...I suggest stay away from FAM...just use HAM.

If you are an all day user...and a heavy user at that...plugging in is an option.
I only do such power hungry apps all day long on my older (n8x0) devices...with them plugged in...(not on my n900)...
The suggestion of a new batt. is a good idea...
We do not know your consumption levels...ie.

A- the batt. says initially it'll give you 8hrs...then you run something and it wants to chew through that 8hr supposed charge in less than 2hrs. (meaning your batt is pretty much on it's last legs)

B- Or sure the batt could be in peak performance...and do 8 hrs heavy work...10 days standby ...in which case...suck it up man...not too many people got a full multi-distro compu-phone in their pocket that can do what it can for 8 hrs.

If 8hrs isn't enough...get another battery..I got 4 extras each for my Nxx0 devices...in case I want to do tremendous heavy usage...and a solio (solar charger batt.) as emergency back-up on top of that.

And ya...when you finish your reflash...
A- Tweak only what you need to...
B- You know what progs you like best by now....and what few you wish to try...install only those.
So spend those hours configuring your system...wisely.
Then when you have it exactly how you like it...and runnin fly too...
And be savvy with power consuming stuff...leaving the phone...wifi...bluetooth...while downloading...while watching movies ...WILL eat your battery's charge...there are tweaks ...learn to use them efficiently .
And once you got the progs you like...don't mess with it anymore... installing and uninstalling...
So to recap.
Reflash.
Set it up to be optimal.
Install what you want and need.
Be power consumptive savvy.
and lastly...
Back-it-up.
Then you have a copy on hand of your set up the way you like it and can simply prest-o change-o have your system back in a heartbeat anything goes wonky....and you won't be going through the same steps over and over...
Listen close ...these guys and everyone else with a n900 know the goods and have been where you are at.

O.k.

First thing....change the title of your thread man...it is not specific enough in it's content or query.
If the hope is to have a private booth at the stadium (a personal help thread...) that you can post into for any and all your own personal and diverse problems...then that helps no one else who may have a specific similar particular problem and is searching for an answer via the title post.
So start posting specific needs or questions in the proper subforums and proper threads....
(as an example....for your opera 11.5 question...ask it in the opera 11.5 thread...that way questions and answers are current and available where everyone looks...)...
it helps you...and the people coming afterward...

And please try using the search for your queries....it may take a specific wording to get the desired result....it may take a couple different tries with diff. wording....but the search here is pretty good. Failing that google searching will compliment your needs.
For example it took less than a couple min to track this down for you.
here you go...
http://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?p...postcount=1287
Please look for things thoroughly before casually asking for someone to find it for you....other members time is just as important as yours.

Ach...no worries...really...
I'm not trying to chastise...
it's just that new folks gotta know that it is their fellow members helping them....no paid corp. service help line here....
Asking questions is good....asking them in the right subforum and the right section...is bestest...then you are also helping others...when they easily find your similar question/problem posted....

Hell ...you got a n900...
been messing with it a bit I imagine...
so I figure it's too late for you man...
you caught the maemo bug....
No gettin rid of that...it only gets worse... :D
in no time you'll be a n900 zen-master...
then you'll be helping new people walking in the door

this is currently the last page of opera mobile thread you could have easily found it by a simple search as the avove post says:)
i say better option is to go the flashing route as it would eradicate most of your problems though it might be a bit hard for you as a first timer but its totally worth it after that simply install cssu stable aka system updates provided by the community:

And i'm doing well thanks for your care and everyone's support. My phone's sim card was disconnected all day i had problems receiving and sendind calls. I'll check the n900 device sub forum...and hit you with a link so you can read through and at least post there ...if not find a suitable fix...

What exactly did you put in the search box? This is such a common error and there are so many threads about it that I am not even going to bother giving you links as I would fill a page with them.

The problem is the loss of contact to the SIM card or to the modem chip, caused by bad soldering.

The most common solutions, in the order of difficulty, starting with the easiest:
  1. A piece of folded paper under the battery to push on the components and renew the contact.
  2. Hammering down the SIM card contacts (may not work if the problem is the modem chip).
  3. Metal springs glued to the chips.
  4. Reflowing the solder in the oven.

endsormeans 2014-09-03 05:49

Re: help me again please

Hmm
it could be a few things...
the card may not be seated properly...you say it connects and then doesn't ...and then does...that may be as simple as a piece of thin folded paper placed over the sim as many have done...in a variety of ways..to add enough pressure to enable the sim to contact the pins properly...
Hmm..could be something as rudimentary as that...a physical fix.
or it may be internal....
or it could be the service area...
anyway...Best suggestion is to definitely read ...esp. read everything you can on the topic and process of elimination utilizing the easiest and least invasive methods 1st and narrow down the list of probable causes and apply the fix that works. You know best how and what your device is performing ...better than I or any one else....

I'll post in this particular post a few...(patience..it may take a bit)...threads where you may find the particular answers to your dilemma ...and/ or you can post probs..questions and screams for help :D
I really suggest you use sub-forums to post in...if you are asking what everyone knows is a common question...they'll direct you to the section where that issue lies....considering you are asking about the n900....the subforum and freemantle forum are the places to shout out.
Asking a specific question in general forums isn't a grand idea...since your question will very quickly get buried and lost ...in the place no one would look for such a question..And remember...if in doubt...and you can't get an answer out of the search engine......google is your friend....
Anyway here is a thread concerning the sim card and common probs not being recognized.

Re: help me again please

Haha...pichlo beat me to it...
And ya he is right...there are a lot of threads on the topic....google....man...
type...something like ...
nokia n900 sim card ...problems...(or) ...not recognized...(or)...cuts out...
and tons of maemo-site links will be at your disposal.
It is wording specific in alot of cases.
Anyway...Pichlo is dead on...it tends to be the common...connection issue resolved with artificially applied pressure...ie piece of paper...that tends to fix that common prob.
Anyway....I gotta hit the hay...tell us how it worked out though Abdel...ok?

Re: help me again please

Well hey!
Great!...
The (guessed at) prob was correct!
Well the odds were high in it's favour...
But don't always expect such good luck in puzzling out probs.
Some take quite a bit of time to diagnose properly...and to iron out ...if you get them. Just remember to read and bookmark alot for reference...never just accept the 1st answer either....read every possible answer on that particular topic 1st and then make an informed decision. Since over time ...solutions change.
And ya....you got it...try (differently) asking the same question of the search tool....and easiest is to first go into the sub forum section that your answer most likely exists in ...and then use the "search this sub-forum" search tool bar button just barely above the posts.... that will elicit more refined responses...
and of course....when in doubt ...Gargle it. :D
Later Gater

Hey now!
No need for name calling!
oh wait a sec...you said "great" ...
oh...well...hummm...
if that's the case ...
I do answer to the lowly title of being referred to as ..
"That-Incredibly-Ingenious....Epitome-of Awesomeness...Guy"...
It used to be longer...
but I discovered it may be a tad too vain.
So I shortened it by a few paragraphs.
But hey what's in an (obvious) title eh?
hehee
s'all good man.. :D
Just "endsormeans" or "paul" is fine..
"great" is too "great" for me...
glad everything worked out...
and truth of the matter is...
you figured it out...not me
So...uuuh-huh!
who is really great here?
Not me man!
It's all you :D

See ya Abdel

Goodmorning maemo users i am sorry if i'm disturbing by posting here again but help me to find a thread that speaks about camera problem. My camera application when launched capture images without saving and when i try to capture 2 or 3 times, it will freeze on the last picture i took and whenever i launch it, it comes with that same photo except if i reboot. Hm..I personally haven't had the prob you are describing...or any prob with the camera...yet.

If you cannot find an answer from a member....google your specific question...ie "Nokia n900 camera problem..."..it is just an example...and may be not explicit in enough specific detail concerning your specific prob...but it should get you aimed in the right direction somewhere here in the forum. Or if you are experiencing a prob there appears to be no thread for ...then....
Create a new thread with the title "insert your specific problem"...you will definitely get more people reading it...and consequently offering their expertise, wisdom and help.

And you aren't disturbing... really ...
it's just that you have a lower chance of getting optimal help for a specific prob by asking for help inside a vague non-specific personalized umbrella thread title called " I Need Help"....

Also...people who end up having the same or similar problem as you won't benefit from the help you are getting here...they won't know where the answer is because they'll be searching through "n900 camera problem" threads.. .

Post specific problems and specfic help needed in specific subforums and you will have better results.

Abdel ..I'm not giving you heck for it...really :D
But you gotta get onboard here man.....as a consequence of your continued methods ...neither you nor anyone else is benefitting optimally from this method of help.
