Update 1.0.9.n this week?

Must be close, I can feel it in my bones. Last update was 14th July and the next was scheduled for early September. My guess is it will be Friday.

Just hope the media player bug is fixed.

Re: Update 1.0.9.n this week?

I do not feel anything in my bones ;) but I have some doubts about having it this week. My only little info is : https://github.com/nemomobile/buteo-...ommits/update9
If this contains the caldav code for update 9, the last update is from 4 Sept which is last Thursday.
Two possibilities:
- either they pushed some code lately for Caldav to fix a problem found during the QA
- or this is the date they started QA

Anyway this is all guesses :P

but at least this is fun game to play

I also hope that friday is the release day for the update since from 15th day it wouldn't be "early september".
I'm waiting improvements for the browser and Qt5.2 bringing better performance and so on...

Wouldnt be the first time for "early" not being early from Jolla :D but lets see.

But it is not possible to get copy/(paste) to the Sailfish Browser by patching, I think?
At least for me the greatest hurdle is the browser, as pretty often you need to copy some information off web and use it somewhere else.

Okay, applied the patch and text selection basically works, I get the handles and can pretty much select what I want;

However: the text I select does not get copied to the system clipboard :(

Do I need some other patch to make that complete?

just click on the selected text

Thanks! :D
I have to admit I did not realise that, I assumed it would automatically copy the selected text, just like it's done on mail&sms views... :o
Actually it is better this way, it lessens the possibility of misselection in a mixed-element page.

How come? it's still roughly 2.5 weeks of september left... that qualifies well for "a few weeks", doesn't it?

Technically maybe. But usually it's "One, two, many" - so if it's ~2 weeks, I wouldn't have said "a few weeks".

OTOH, I couldn't care less as long as I know they're working on it. :)

Re: Update 1.0.9.n this week?

juiceme: there are also patches for search text on page and text selection to letter instead of whole word available :)

Also, to me the 'few more weeks' doesn't sound like 'just around the corner'. Oh well, in Jolla building they do have indeed long walls and far corners... ;)

Re: Update 1.0.9.n this week?

- QT5.2
- Search support in media player
- Automatically save draft emails
- Improved Homescreen performance and Sailfish
- Browser engine update to Gecko 31 (improving scrolling performance)

sounds good :)

Nope. At least not in colloquial British English, where generally the terms are seen as:

One: 1
A couple: 2
A few: 3 or more, generally no more than about 5

But I was being tongue-in-cheek in any case.

~ Offical annoucement ~
Uitukka (Sailfish OS Update 9!!) is just around the corner, hold on!!!......

Hi all,

Now that the Finnish summer heat has cooled down, we’ve been working very hard to finalize and polish our next Sailfish OS software update. We have great new stuff to deliver to you, and we’re almost there. However, we believe we need a few more weeks to ensure good quality especially since this is a major update including Qt 5.2.

Rest assured, we are committed to bring this release out during this month.

Thanking you for your patience,

Jolla team

Is anyone else horribly disappointed that there is still no progress on the copy/paste capabilities? How long can it possibly take? Also, the list does not include improvements on the beta-quality CalDAV.
Between that and all the Android c**p not working, I've been thinking about performing some necromancy on my N900 and seeing for how long I can keep it alive this time...

Yes now that you mention it..
I find myself regularly trying to copy paste stuff from the browser for example.
Unlinke 2010 I am no longer surprised such simple action does not work or is not allowed.
Time to head to together.jolla.com to doublecheck and see if I voted already for system wide copy / paste. ;)

coderus 2014-09-15 06:44

Re: Update 1.0.9.n this week?

browser copy-paste is here, but not enabled because lack of final design.
you can enable text selection with following patch: https://openrepos.net/content/coderu...election-patch

Re: Update 1.0.9.n this week?

I think I remember reading that copy paste support in browser will come with update 10. There are commits for this feature in sailfish-browser since a while.

You could compile it for yourself with that commits included, or use coderus patches for patchmanager which also implements that feature.

juiceme 2014-09-15 08:15

Re: Update 1.0.9.n this week?

I recommend the @coderus patch, it works pretty much as expected :)

Looking at the QML basically what it does is enables the existing functionality already in the browser, but commented away;

Code:

// We decided to disable "text selection" until we understand how it
// should look like in Sailfish.
// TextSelectionController {}

And additionally it makes nice circular handles for the selection entry.

coderus 2014-09-15 10:39

Re: Update 1.0.9.n this week?

yeah, upstream selection handles are ugly and not centered :~

vistaus 2014-09-15 11:13

Re: Update 1.0.9.n this week?

Not trying to be a marketeer, but one could use Webcat browser for more features (copy-paste, search on page, etc.). Webcat has been my primary browser for a long time now, I like the design and features better than Jolla's browser :)

Re: Update 1.0.9.n this week?

And what about copy/paste to and from AlienDalvik?
The absence of this also makes some things impossible / some apps useless.

That was fixed in the previous update and I can confirm it works right. At least with copying from Tweetian and Webcat to OneNote (Android app).

From Sailfish into Android has been working since a few updates ago, actually.
But the reverse too? From any Android app to any Sailfish app? Never noticed that fix in the changelogs...
I tried coyping text in Opera Mini, never made it to the Sailfish clipboard.

How does it work? tap-and-hold? anything else? can't find a way to use it...

1.) tap&hold -> gives you selection with circular tabs in both ends.
2.) move the tabs to cover the text you want to copy
3.) tap to the selected area, and it will be copied to system tray :)

I don't use Opera Mini so I can't comment on that. But copying from OneNote (Android app) and pasting into Tweetian works.
